Berry season. Calendar of seasonal vegetables and fruits

Everything is going up in price right now! Because of the sanctions, so many buyers now think so. But it's really not all that bad. After all, something really rises in price, but something, on the contrary, becomes cheaper. For example, fruits and vegetables. It's all about seasonal price fluctuations.

In the second half of summer and autumn, prices for vegetables and fruits fall. This is understandable: the season is coming, there is a lot of goods, it is not necessary to carry it far, the competition between sellers is high. Toward the end of autumn, seasonal vegetables and fruits are still on the shelves, they can still be bought for a relatively small price. At the same time, the season has not even begun for some vegetables and fruits. And their prices are still high - will soon go down.

Already getting more expensive

Cucumbers, tomatoes and a variety of greens are returning to their pre-season positions and are even likely to be slightly blocked. There are no ground vegetables anywhere, only occasionally there are the very last tomatoes from Dagestan or Central Asia. Accordingly, prices have also risen: for the remains of ground vegetables (or those vegetables that are trying to give them away) - you will have to pay 100-120 rubles per kilogram, greenhouse ones can be bought cheaper - 70-80 rubles. Approximately the same prices for cucumbers.

In the tomato family, Slivka berries are the cheapest. You can find them on the market for 50 rubles each. And if earlier, when there were ground pink ones, “cream” was bought mainly for cooking, now it’s not a shame to buy them for salad too. They taste much nicer than greenhouse "plastic" tomatoes.

Frosts have completed the season of greenery near Moscow, so you can’t buy 100 grams of parsley from grandmothers in the markets for 10-15 rubles - 100 grams. You will have to pay 20-25 rubles for a bundle, or even more.

Time to buy

Now is the peak season for various root crops: carrots, beets, potatoes - are now sold at 15-20 rubles per kilogram. By the New Year, prices for them may begin to rise, but since the harvest this year was quite good, let's hope that the main increase will occur at the end of winter - the beginning of spring.

Basically, the harvesting of white cabbage has ended. It's the cheapest right now. It needs to be bought and fermented. However, even in a non-sauerkraut state, cabbage is also well stored. And don't worry about the price either. It will not take off to the skies, and if it grows, then not before the New Year. The harvest, again, is good.

Now at seasonal prices you can buy celery, parsnips, turnips, radishes and daikon. These vegetables never disappear from store shelves, but now they are especially useful and as cheap as possible.

October is pumpkin season. Although this vegetable is very well stored and will be sold until March, you need to buy and cook it right now: it has the most vitamins. And the price is low. Depending on the variety, pumpkin can be bought from 10 rubles per kilogram.

Will rise in price soon

Following tomatoes and cucumbers, eggplants will soon rise in price. Their prices have already gone up. And if in the season they could be found for 40 rubles per kilo, now it is 70-80. The season passes, only imported eggplants remain. Usually in late October - early November, only Greek and Israeli ones can be found on sale. And the price for them will go well over 100.

The same story with young zucchini. Domestic ones are over, only imported ones remain. But at fairs from farmers you can buy winter squash, with oak skin, they lie for a long time and are inexpensive. They are very hard to clean though.

Prices will drop soon

The season is not over for all fruits. Persimmon and feijoa are already appearing on the shelves. But they are still quite expensive. By November, prices for these southern fruits should drop significantly, and if now a kilo of feijoa is sold for 250 rubles, then in three weeks this fruit will fall in price to 100-120 rubles.

Persimmon has already appeared at more or less normal prices, but this fruit has not yet ripened and therefore “knits” strongly.

Most likely, grenades will also become a little cheaper. Now not the largest and ripe ones sell for 150 rubles. In November, more ripe pomegranates will appear at the same price.

So, let's start the analysis of the June fruits.

Have you thought about freezing certain plant foods for the summer or spring? One thought occurred to me just a couple of days ago about freezing citrus fruits for spring and summer. Well, for example, in the summer there are no oranges, grapefruits, or the same new exotic as a pomelo. There are also no figs in spring and early summer.

Although our winter has not been quite severe lately, it is still not the best season for vitaminization and nourishment of our body. Additional care is needed, and therefore exotic ones are no longer a luxury, but, so to speak, a means of maintaining immunity and a positive mood. Those who believe that winter fruits are poor in content and simply useless are mistaken. If they are stored correctly, then the vitamins in them are only slightly less than in the summer gifts of nature. They also contain the most important organic acids with trace elements, and, of course, fiber.

However, let me remind you that the maximum shelf life of such fruits, berries and vegetables is up to 7-8 months. After, the content of vitamins in most of them is reduced by half.

So, we can freeze for the summer

    • persimmon,
    • tangerines,
    • oranges,
    • grapefruit,
    • broccoli,
    • cauliflower,
    • chokeberry,

And enjoy them until the arrival of new fruits. But what dishes can turn out if you mix summer and winter products? A completely different taste in the form of new dishes.

How to freeze winter fruits and vegetables?

Broccoli and cauliflower also washed, dried or well wrapped and disassembled into twigs. Then in a plastic bag in one layer and in the freezer. It is necessary to put these vegetables so that when frozen they do not stray into lumps and there are separate branches. You can make a frozen mixture of broccoli and cauliflower, or you can do it separately.

Grapefruit. Freezing this citrus should be very delicate. First you need to prepare it. We clean the fruit from the peel and white walls, leaving only pink or ruby-pearl flesh. Then you can put it in a bag - also in one layer, so that the grapefruit freezes evenly or in a disposable plastic cup.

Oranges and tangerines. Peel and divide the exotics into slices and freeze in a bag, it’s good if you don’t damage the slices when peeling the fruit, so all juices and vitamins will be better preserved.

Freeze kiwi is also pretty simple. Wash the fruit thoroughly, cut it into four slices, remove the skin, put it in a bag in one layer and freeze.

chokeberry it is even easier to freeze - it is washed, dried, sent to the bag and to the freezer - that's it!

So, you will have a winter supply for the summer.

What to do with frozen winter exotics?

    • Well, for example, you can cook a wonderful compote.
    • Make the perfect pie filling.
    • Add frozen fruit to tea when brewing.
    • Make fresh - mix all the fruits in a blender, and then squeeze through cheesecloth or pass through a sieve.
    • Also, frozen fruits are great for decorating cakes, pastries, martini glasses or other drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic.
    • And, in general, you can just freeze them with sugar, you get something like popsicles.

Any other ideas for using frozen winter exotics? - Then write, let's try.

  • Autumn is a transition period from summer to winter. It is in the fall that it is customary to sum up. This is the harvest and new job after vacation, and the beginning of the school year and much more.

    Seasonal autumn vegetables and fruits

The autumn months are the time of harvesting and harvesting for the winter. But this is also the time to prepare the body for the cold. It is in autumn, eating healthy fruits and vegetables, that the human body gains strength, energy and is filled with vitamins.

Important: It is worth remembering that the abuse of even natural products can lead to serious consequences.

As a rule, during the summer period, mainly “light” foods are consumed, with reduced calorie and fast digestible. It's basically vegetable salads and fruit platters. The autumn diet is not yet so weighted with food, but it no longer consists only of fruits and vegetables.

Autumn diet to maintain the body

The autumn diet should include not only what grows in the garden. To maintain the state of the body and improve the functioning of its functions, nutrition must be rational. Those. the diet should include sources of vitamins, a full range of carbohydrates and fats. All .

To maintain immunity, do not actively use vitamin complexes. It is enough to remember that the menu must include following products:

    - Fatty acids, in particular omega-3. Red fish, which contain a large amount of protein and vitamins A, E, D, helps to maintain the body's resistance even in the most unstable autumn weather, and to avoid such troubles as a sore throat and a runny nose.

And this, in turn, also helps to strengthen the immune system. This also includes a special spice - ginger. This is a natural antibiotic with immunomodulatory properties, which also has excellent taste.

    - Nuts, especially almonds. The high content of vitamin E helps to increase the body's resistance to viruses, which reduces the risk of respiratory infections. But even more valuable is the complex use of nuts: sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds and, of course, sunflower seeds.

    - Seasonal vegetables: onions, garlic, sweet peppers, carrots and, of course, greens. Onions and garlic, having antiseptic properties, help with colds. In addition, eating onions helps to normalize the level of cholesterol in the blood, and the content of vitamins such as calcium, phosphorus, and selenium in garlic make it an excellent natural antibiotic. Carrots contain vitamin A and beta-carotene, which promote the growth and strengthening of immune cells. Carrots are also a natural antioxidant. Greens are a source of folic acid, a sufficient amount of which in the body reduces the risk of respiratory infections.

October is the time of the final transition to winter. But, in October, the late harvest is still being harvested. This is the time for:

What vegetables and fruits are useful for autumn can be found in the video

    05.07.2016 Vladimir Zuykov Save:

Good afternoon dear friends! Vladimir Zuykov is with you. As I promised, today we begin to consider new theme about seasonal fruits and vegetables - the food we eat. Highly important question, which is ignored by many in "healthy eating". And at the end of the article, I will share with you the seasonality calendar.

Now summer is the best opportunity to get the maximum benefit from berries, fruits and vegetables. You need to eat more of them while all this is available. But it is also important when buying to take into account the quality of these very products and the season of their natural ripening. Many people ignore this question, thinking that in the summer everything is useful by default and in season.

Are fresh fruits and vegetables always healthy?

If you go to the supermarket, fruits and vegetables are available all year round. Come in and buy what you like. Everything is beautiful, neat, shiny - as a selection. Retail chains make a lot of efforts to make us want to buy the maximum convenience at the lowest possible price.

In supermarkets (especially large ones), a raw foodist has practically nothing to do. It's full of everything, but there is nothing to buy. Eating plants from the supermarket is just an illusion of a healthy lifestyle.

Now we have such agricultural technologies that cater more to ignorant consumer demand than utility. Therefore, supermarkets and vegetable markets are crammed with such a wide range of off-season products. They are not only not useful, but also harmful to our health.

The fact is that such vegetables and fruits are grown under artificial conditions, stimulating their rapid growth and early ripening of the crop with the help of aggressive nitrate fertilizers, pesticides and other filth. Some think that the issue can be solved by cutting the peel or soaking in water. Well, yes.

About storage. Industrial vegetables and fruits in warehouses are usually artificially increased in shelf life through various chemical treatments. As a result, we have "eternal" apples and other plastic fruits on sale. By the way, read about my experiment with apples that never rotted during the spring and summer.

Of course, no one has yet died from these apples if they were eaten in small quantities. But the intestinal microflora suffered for sure. As a result, weakness, reduced immunity, friendly intestinal bacteria die, which means that useful substances are not synthesized.

And if we're talking about raw foodists, eating plant foods of such low quality is one of the reasons why the transitional stage of the raw food diet lasts YEARS for some, when it should be completed in 6-8 months. Guys, I'm already tired of repeating that chemistry in the diet of a raw foodist is a road to nowhere.

For example, making a salad of cucumbers and tomatoes in the spring, you are well aware that you are eating out-of-season foods stuffed with chemicals. Well, if you don’t agree with me, then think about what you can grow in our climate in winter-spring or how to bring something from distant countries without using chemical substances.

Well, in winter and spring everything is clear. What about in summer? For example, in June, apricots, peaches, tomatoes, melons are actively sold in the markets. Many raw foodists use them. Are these products helpful? Many people think so.

In fact, the season for all of these fruits begins in mid-July. Yes, for those brought from more southern regions - a little earlier, but not at the beginning of June. That is, you eat greenhouse fruits, for the cultivation of which any chemistry is usually used.

For example, to grow tomatoes in such huge quantities, greenhouses alone are not enough. Be sure to use chemical growth and maturation stimulants. All this enters your body. Will there be any benefit from such a raw food diet (or what kind of food do you have)?

Reasons to abandon out-of-season fruits and vegetables in favor of seasonal ones:

    1. Benefit. During the season, fruits and vegetables contain the greatest amount of useful substances in their composition and many times less fertilizers are used for their cultivation. Nature herself tells us that everything should be consumed in its own time.
    2. Taste. Seasonal products taste much brighter and richer than non-seasonal ones. For example, in winter, tomatoes are like tasteless plastic, and in August they ask to be put into the mouth one by one.
    3. The best nutrition. Seasonal fruits and vegetables saturate the body much better than "empty" off-season counterparts.
    4. Price. In season products are much cheaper than out of season (there are exceptions). Seasonal go on sale almost immediately, without long-term storage and processing. Therefore, eating seasonal food is also beneficial for saving your budget.
    5. Save the planet and support local farming. Buying natural products in the markets in season, you save nature. After all, growing out-of-season products pollutes environment greenhouse gases and chemical waste from agriculture.

Friends, the guarantee of health, youth and beauty is the use of mainly seasonal products. Only seasonal sun-warmed fruits, vegetables and herbs contain many vitamins, minerals and other useful substances. Out-of-season are deprived of all this.

You come to the market or to the vegetable counter - your eyes run wide. So many things are sold almost all year round! But now you start to wonder: is it worth buying?

Rules for choosing vegetables and fruits

Guys, in fact, buying quality fruits and vegetables is not so difficult. To do this, you must first follow the following rules:

    1. Try to buy only seasonal fruits and vegetables. For example, strawberries in January are not seasonal and even dangerous, but in June they will have the maximum benefit and taste.
    2. Try to buy plant foods that are grown in open field under the sun. Greenhouse food always contains less useful and more nitrates and pesticides.
    3. Never buy vegetables and fruits that are too beautiful and perfectly shaped. Yes, supermarkets and vegetable stores are full of such products, but there is nothing useful in them. Choose foods that are more unprepossessing in appearance, but naturally grown.
    4. It is advisable to buy fruits and vegetables fully ripe and not stored for a long time in warehouses. That is, unripe or, on the contrary, rotten and spoiled, it is better to bypass.
    5. Give preference to local vegetables and fruits, and not brought from overseas. Keep this in mind when planning your individual diet.
    6. When buying imported fruits, check that they are in season in the country from which they are imported.
    7. Do not forget and do not be lazy to make preparations for the winter. The blog has articles on how to freeze and dry fruits, vegetables and herbs on your own.

In fact, everything is simple. Products out of season will not bring health. Chemistry and nitrates. For healthy eating the most important is the choice of natural seasonal fruits and vegetables. That is, those that have matured according to the natural cycle, and which are grown without aggressive chemistry. Be it local or imported fruits.

Monthly fruit and vegetable seasonal calendar

So what vegetables and fruits should be bought depending on the season and where they are grown, and which ones should not?

The calendar of seasonality of fruits and vegetables will help in solving this issue. We made it in the format of a convenient table, by months.
