Installing a smart faucet in the kitchen. How to change a faucet in the kitchen without the help of a plumber: self-replacement of the old and installation of a new faucet

So, you bought a faucet to replace an old one or to equip a sink on a new set and decided to take on the installation yourself. On the one hand, it is very simple to connect and put a faucet on the sink with your own hands - anyone can do it. On the other hand, even having some experience, but not knowing the elementary rules, you can do the work of poor quality or even spoil the product, for example, knocking down the thread, bending the supplies, etc. Another reason why you still have to turn to a plumber is it is the lack of a set of plumbing tools. But this problem is completely solvable, because you can always ask something from friends.

We tried to tell you as clearly as possible about how to install a faucet in the kitchen with your own hands reliably and correctly.

List of necessary tools and spare parts

Before proceeding with the installation of kitchen plumbing with your own hands, you need to prepare and purchase everything you need. You will need:

  1. FUM sealing tape - it is better not to take linen tow, as it swells from water, and then it will be difficult to remove the eyeliners;
  2. Open-end wrench for 10 or 11;
  3. Tubular wrench - needed to tighten a hard-to-reach nut during installation of the faucet to the sink;
  1. Mounting kit - it must contain rubber o-rings, that is, half washers (2 pcs.), One horseshoe-shaped metal half washer, stud (1 or 2) and nut. Such a set is attached to the mixer, but if you wish, you can buy a thicker and stronger sealing ring, since manufacturers do not always include high-quality gaskets in the kit;

  1. Pliers, a small key, a screwdriver - sometimes they are also needed;
  2. A rag, a basin and a flashlight will also come in handy so that you can see everything;
  3. And finally, the main thing - 2 plumbing connections - are attached to the kit, but it is better to buy others, since the factory ones are often short and made of silumin;

Perhaps it is worth focusing on the eyeliners. Keep in mind that:

  • Eyeliners need such a length that they do not break, but bend in the form of a semicircle, that is, they should not be too long or, conversely, short in tension. The most suitable length is 86 cm;
  • If the factory eyeliner is too short, then it is better not to try to build it up, but to buy a new one;
  • In addition, do not buy silumin hoses, especially if you bought a silumin mixer - at least the connections must be reliable;
  • Installation of flexible connections is easier than connecting rigid ones, but they are considered less reliable, so it is better to install them together with taps with a tap;
  • In a set of eyeliners, there must be gaskets;
  • Replacing an old faucet in the kitchen most often involves replacing old hoses, because they also wear out.

Step 1. Dismantling the old mixer and preparing for installation

Before installing the faucet in the kitchen, you need to turn off the water (the riser does not need to be closed) and, just in case, lay a rag on the bottom of the sink so that small parts do not fall into it, and large ones do not damage.

Of course, replacing a kitchen faucet requires removing the old faucet. For this you need:

  • First, disconnect the old hoses from the cold and hot water pipes with your hands or with an open-end wrench. Do not forget to put a basin under them and drain all the rest of the water, after which the pipe threads must be wiped clean.
  • Then, using a tubular wrench, you need to unscrew the clamping nut on the stud (or two studs) that secures the faucet to the sink (right below it). When you unscrew this nut, the metal half washer will also come off.
  • Now you need to pull the mixer together with the hoses from the sink hole. Well, that's all, you can proceed to the next step.

Step 2. Assembly of the mixer and eyeliners

Installing a faucet in the kitchen begins with its assembly, that is, with connection to flexible hoses or hard leads.

  • If you have a two-valve mixer as in the photo on the right, then most likely you need to assemble it first. To do this, we insert the spout (faucet) into the body up to the restrictive ring and manually, without tightening it too much, screw them together.

Now we take the FUM tape and wrap it around the end of the eyeliner a little.

  • Taping the tip is not necessary as the hose already has a gasket.

Then we insert the end of the first eyeliner into the corresponding hole in the mixer as in the photo below and fasten it first with our own hands, and then slightly tighten it with an open-end wrench by 10. In the same way, we fasten the second hose.

  • It is very important not to tighten too much, otherwise the lining will be damaged! But not holding out is also bad.

And finally, we fasten the pin-stud (or 2 studs) with the thread up into the hole that is supposed to be for it. Our assembled faucet is almost ready for installation. It remains to thread both eyeliners into the o-ring, bring it to the base of the mixer body and fix it there as shown in the photo on the right.

Step 3. Install the faucet on the sink

And now it's time to put the faucet on the sink.

  • By the way, it is more convenient to install the mixer on a sink that has not yet been built in, since it is not very convenient to work getting under the countertop (in this case, the installation is done in this way).

We put the ends of the hoses into the sink hole, put the mixer and ask someone to hold it so that you feel comfortable.

Then, from below, under the countertop or from the bottom of the removed sink, we put a second rubber pressure washer on the eyeliners. As a result, it will turn out that two rubber seals will protect the body both above and below the sink. Now we also fasten a horseshoe-shaped metal washer (photo below).

We put on the stud-nut from below and twist it with:

  • Tubular wrench, in case you need to replace the faucet on an already installed sink. The photo below shows the mount from below.

  • Open-end wrench - in case you install the mixer on a new or removed sink. Of course, after that you need to install the sink itself on the countertop and only then proceed to connect the mixer to the pipes of cold and hot water.
  • Tighten the nut firmly, but not too tight!

Step 4. Connecting to pipes

Finally, we connect the hoses to the water outlet pipes, considering that:

  • Hot water outlet - from the right pipe;
  • The cold outlet is from the left pipe.

  • Sometimes cold water is discharged through a pipe that is located on top, and hot water- through the pipe from below, as in the photo below.

One of the main elements in the kitchen is the faucet, which is usually installed on the sink. After buying a quality appliance, the following question arises: how to install a faucet in the kitchen?

You can install the crane by calling a specialist, or you can carry out work on replacing it yourself. For self installation A kitchen faucet will require certain tools and certain rules. Knowing the device of the water tap, and observing certain rules for the installation of this product, you can change the faucet in the kitchen in a short time.

Installing a kitchen faucet involves three steps:

  • work to prepare the installation site;
  • mixer installation;
  • connection and testing.

Faucet replacement tools

In order to put the faucet with your own hands on the sink in the kitchen, you will need the following tools:

  • Adjustable wrench;
  • screwdriver;
  • pliers;
  • spanners;
  • fum tape.

Site preparation work for further installation

Before proceeding with the installation of the mixer with your own hands, you should carry out a number of preliminary works:

  1. Shut off the water using the valve, which is located in front of the meter.
  2. Dismantle the old mixer. If you need to replace an old faucet with a new one, you need to unscrew the flexible hose nuts from the water supply pipes using an adjustable wrench. After that, the studs that connect the faucet and the sink are unscrewed. After such simple procedures, you can dismantle the old mixer.
  3. Attention: before starting this type of work, a water tank is installed under the junction of the flexible hose and pipe.
  4. The seat is cleaned with a cleaning agent.

Faucet installation

After carrying out the preparatory work, you can proceed with the installation of the crane:

  1. Wrap flexible hoses with fum tape. Then pass them through the washing hole. Next, the hoses are screwed to the new mixer, while using a wrench. Be sure to install a gasket in the lower part of the faucet, which will provide a better degree of tightness.
  2. Using a screwdriver, studs are inserted into special holes. Their number may vary, depending on the manufacturer and product configuration.
  3. Regardless of the manufacturer, a dense rubber gasket and a metal plate are supplied with the faucet. A gasket is put on the hairpin, and a plate is put on top of it. Then you need to install the faucet on the sink and fix it in a level position.

Connection and testing

After a series of events, the faucet was installed on the kitchen sink. After that, you need to connect it to the plumbing system.

Connecting flexible hoses to pipes: in order to make this connection, you will need union nuts, each of which has been previously inserted with a gasket. It is necessary to tighten them tightly on the pipe and tighten with a wrench.

Attention: Tighten the nuts carefully so as not to strip the threads of the nut and damage the gasket.

Now the crane is installed by hand, communications are connected, you can check the quality of the installation:

  1. First of all, you need to dry the faucet and sink;
  2. Open the water supply valve;
  3. Let water through the mixer; You should carefully inspect all the nuts and joints of the faucet with the sink, the joints of the pipes. If everything remains dry, we can safely say that you managed to replace the faucet with your own hands.

Summing up, we can conclude that installing a crane with your own hands is possible and takes a little time, if you follow all the rules for its installation, and also listen to the following tips:

  • The faucet in the kitchen should be changed if it cannot be repaired. Before proceeding with any repair work, you should know the device of the water tap. After studying the instructions that come with the faucet, you can learn how to change the bushing faucet, how to determine the causes of a leak in a one-handed faucet, how to replace the gasket.
  • As a rule, in standard sets of mixers, flexible tubes are not the most best quality. In this case, it is better to immediately replace them with flexible leads in a metal winding.
  • Pipe wrapping should only be done in a clockwise direction.
  • Before connecting flexible conduits to pipes, make sure that the connecting parts will not be deformed during operation.
  • Be careful when connecting flexible hoses to hot and cold water pipes. According to the norms, cold water is on the right, hot water is on the left.

If the wiring of water in the kitchen is carried out for the first time, you are very lucky. In this case, you have the opportunity to do everything right and ergonomically the first time - to make comfortable access to the system and a convenient way to replace equipment. By connecting to a ready-made network, you will have a chance to not only install the faucet in the kitchen, but also install pipelines under the above template. And below you will learn how to install a faucet in the kitchen, and for clarity, we will provide a video of this process. As a result, you will deal with the first and second options.

You can do all the manipulations yourself, without resorting to the help of plumbers. It will turn out two in one - you will get the necessary skills and be able to save your family budget.

Security questions:

  • When water is supplied to systems in different connections, where rubberized or rubber products act as gaskets, risk zones arise.

Attention! You are going to install pipelines in such a way that in the area between the mixer and the water pipe, reduce the number of connections.

  • Installation of overhead cranes. As a rule, they are advised to install them on the main pipeline, and then connect flexible wiring from the mixer to it.

Attention! A good rule of thumb is to equip each water distribution point with a shut-off ball valve. In this case, if necessary, you can block the required area without closing the entire system.

  • Plumbing equipment. How many times have they said that when choosing a mixer, you need to focus not on its cost, but on its quality. Cheap equipment and hoses are of poor quality, so they fail quickly.
Attention! One of the ways to choose a faucet wisely is to focus on customer reviews and the brand. In both cases, the reliability of operation will be close to 100%.

Features of preparation

We offer you to get acquainted with some little things that can help you in future work. Ultimately, it depends on them whether you can achieve the desired result:

Mixer The main criteria should include the fact that the spout should be directed to the center of the sink. Particular attention should be paid to the completeness of the product, which includes gaskets (paronite, silicone or rubber) and flexible piping. Check the warranty in the user manual.
nuts When buying, you should pay attention to the diameter of the docking couplings and nuts. The standard option is 1/2″. If you decide to install the mixer directly to the pipe or it is larger, use an adapter.
Mixer socket If the sink already has special holes for the tap, check that its diameter fully matches it. If it is not available, you can purchase a wall-mounted version or drill a seat in a stainless or ceramic sink using special tools or directly to the store (if it provides such a service).
Tool You will need a minimum set - pliers, a screwdriver, two adjustable wrenches. We advise you to purchase WD-40 grease, which will facilitate the dismantling of old equipment.

How to install a faucet in the kitchen: video and description of the main steps

The instructions below will allow you to answer all the questions that are related to installing the faucet on the sink. Beforehand, we advise you to cover the place of work with packing cardboard or other material so that metal components that fall from a height do not damage the pedestal or floor covering. If possible, it is better to take the sink away from the wall.

Attention! If access to the mixer is possible only from one side, it is better to remove everything that will interfere with work. As a rule, this is a wastewater disposal system.

Step by step installation

After you unscrew the old mixer, you need to install a new one in its place. Here is a step by step guide:

  1. Insert the structure into the prepared nest. This can be clearly seen in the special instruction leaflet provided by the manufacturer. So:
  • install the rubber gasket on the hole;
  • place a metal base plate on top;
  • install the mixer itself;
  • put another gasket on the metal stud from below;
  • tighten everything with the fixing nut.

Attention! There is a fastener where the inner rubber ring is missing. Fixation is carried out manually without any tool. This must be stated in the equipment assembly manual.

  1. Connect the hot and cold water supply to the sockets. The logo located on the crane lever, which has a "blue" and a "red" half, respectively, will act as a hint.

Attention! You can install the hoses before installing the faucet in the sink hole, as this is not essential.

  1. Use an adjustable wrench to connect each hose to the corresponding piping.

System repair and start

As you can see, the connection is not difficult, the main thing is to adhere to a neat assembly. All you need is to make the first start of the system, and it will provide answers to any questions.

To do this, open the special shut-off valves, then in turn, and then together the hot and cold water taps. Inspect the joints, and if there are minor leaks, you need to tighten the nuts. In this case, do not rush, so as not to break them.

Now here are some important points related to the repair of equipment:

  • From time to time check the connecting hoses in the places of their fixation. If they leak water, it is worth replacing their gaskets. When water starts to flow from the hose, you can replace it with a new one.
  • In two-valve faucets, worn out cartridges are a common cause of water leakage. They should also be replaced, which will not cause you any trouble. To do this, remove the colored nozzle on the valve, then unscrew the locking bolt with a hexagon or a curly screwdriver and remove it. Then disconnect the cartridge fixing nut, and replace the broken cartridge with a new one.
  • If water flows from the mixer body, then the equipment itself will require replacement.
Conclusion

Above, we told you how to install a faucet in the kitchen, we provided a video of the process itself. Now there should be no stains associated with this process for you.

The main rule is to follow the sequence and accuracy of actions. Our related video will give you detailed information.

The kitchen faucet, when compared with other kitchen appliances and appliances, is most of all subjected to significant operational loads. Just picking up a quality product will not be enough, you also need to install it correctly. Therefore, we will consider in more detail what type of mixer to choose, how to install it and what you should pay attention to during the installation process.

Proper installation of a kitchen faucet - what to look for

There are several ways to install and connect the mixer. For example, directly into the sink body, on the countertop, on the wall. For each listed case, it is necessary to mark the location of the hot and cold water pipes. And also provide for the possibility of access to the place of their connection in case of repair or maintenance, including for installing a filter.

Since the operation of the mixer without washing is impossible, when choosing a product, consider:

  • Distance from wall to faucet hole.
  • Direct hole diameter.
  • Drain location.
  • Mixer spout length. Ideally, the end of the spout should be in the center of the sink.
  • Spout height. It is selected taking into account the height of pots and other cutlery.
  • Mixer rotation angle. For a single sink located against a wall, an angle of 90° is sufficient. For a sink with two bowls, it is better to choose swivel models with a large angle.

The choice of plumbing fixtures offered for installation in the kitchen is huge - classic, minimalist, hi-tech or loft, chrome, copper, one-color. Therefore, it will not be difficult to choose a model of the appropriate design and characteristics. As for the question of which faucet is better, the quality of European-made plumbing is an order of magnitude higher.

The most popular and practical model is the single-lever design. Adjustment of intensity of a stream and temperature is carried out by one handle. Mixers with two valves fit well into a classic interior. Models equipped with a motion sensor are triggered when hands approach, but it is very difficult to regulate the temperature, intensity and time of water supply.

In addition to the type and appearance of the product, a very important indicator is the material of manufacture. The most affordable are silumin mixers, models from other cheap alloys, but they wear out quickly, begin to crumble, crack. The highest quality and durable - brass, plated with nickel, chrome, aluminum.

Necessary tools and sequence of work performed

Installing the faucet in the kitchen or bathroom is carried out in several stages. Before starting work, study the instructions for the mixer. We prepare the necessary tools. Most of the tools can be found at home, and the missing ones, along with consumables, can be purchased separately. We will need:

  • Phillips and flat screwdrivers;
  • wrench;
  • sandpaper;
  • torch;
  • flexible hoses;
  • fum tape, linen;
  • water container;
  • aerosol WD-40;
  • end keys.

Dismantling work begins with the removal of the old device. To do this, turn off the water supply to the house, apartment, and to relieve pressure in the system, open the mixer.

Before installing a new device, be sure to connect new connecting hoses to it. Reliable sealing of the system is provided by rubber gaskets that are supplied in the kit, but for greater confidence, fum-tape, flax can be wound on the threads of flexible hoses.

The kit also includes an annular decorative gasket that is installed on the mixer base. We pass it through the connecting hoses, trying to place the rings in the special grooves.

Now we put the mixer on the sink (sink). We start flexible hoses through the mounting hole, and lower the mixer to the stop. Assistance may be required at this stage to screw the device on and not be distracted by holding it in place.

A spacer (pressure plate) provides fixation and retention in place. We also pass it through the hoses and press it to the base of the sink. We screw the threaded pins into the base of the mixer through the spacer and bait the nuts. Now our assistant must set the mixer and hold it until the nuts are fully tightened with a socket wrench.

We check again the correct installation of the mixer, sealing gaskets and connect the hoses to the plumbing system. Each flexible hose connecting hot and cold water is connected to the corresponding pipes of the plumbing system. Since rubber (polymer) gaskets are used for sealing, the clamping force should not be excessive. If necessary, for example in the event of leakage, the nuts can be tightened with an adjustable wrench.

We attach a siphon to the sink and begin to check the performance of the entire plumbing and sewer system under maximum pressure. We eliminate the leaks and on this installation work can be considered completed.

Installation features depending on the type of mixer

Installing a faucet on a sink or sink does not cause any particular difficulties, since everything is provided in the technological plan. First of all, the presence of technological holes. It will be somewhat more difficult to install if the diameter of the cut-in hole is narrowed, or when it is necessary to place the mixer on the countertop.

In addition to the set of tools listed above, you will additionally need:

  • electric jigsaw;
  • drill;
  • drills of various sizes.

When choosing a place for a hole, you need to consider that the use of a switching valve (lever) should be convenient. The spout should be at an optimal distance, which will prevent water from entering the countertop.

First, along the contour of the base of the mixer with a pencil, we make markings. Then, using a drill, we drill a small hole for the mixer and a few more for installing the threaded pins. We insert a jigsaw saw into the hole and expand it to the same dimensions as in sinks. We clean the edges of the cut from sawdust and irregularities with sandpaper. And to protect it from moisture, we apply a layer of silicone sealant to it. The installation method and sequence of actions are similar to those described above.

The hole must not be made too large, otherwise the pressure ring will not be enough to cover its dimensions!

One of the modern and original solutions is to install the mixer into the wall. The crane thus occupies a minimum of working space and can be installed at any height. Since all the supply pipes are hidden in the wall, under the tiles, in special cutouts, everything looks quite aesthetically pleasing.

Hidden eyeliner is carried out by any type of pipes. If the mixer connectors coincide with the axes of the pipes, couplings, tees and corners are sufficient. In other cases, the connection is carried out with special fittings, they are also called water sockets.

The main difficulty in the installation is the correct plumbing, installation of adapters and fittings, reliable fastening of any type of mixer. For example, valve or cartridge, with a flexible or rigid spout. The flexible spout offers more freedom in choosing its position, the opposite option has a limited choice and turn of the switch. But in any case, wall models are distinguished by ease of use, modern design, and reliable construction.

The sequence of actions is as follows. First, we wind fum-tape or linen on the threads of the supply pipes and fasten the eccentrics. The axial distance between the pipes, like the axial distance on the mixer, is usually 150 mm. But in case of their inconsistency, we turn the eccentrics and achieve axial correspondence between the pipes and the mixer. We expose it relative to the plane.

We install a decorative screen. Since it should hide threaded connections and flaws on the wall from the eyes, the screen should fit snugly against the latter. If a gap has formed between the wall and the decorative overlay, disconnect the mixer and cut the eccentrics to the required length.

We install the sealing gaskets included in the mixer package into the housing nuts and tighten them. First, we bait the nuts by hand, and when resistance arises, we tighten them with an adjustable wrench, but without much effort so as not to damage the threads. If necessary, the connections can be tightened at any time. Wall faucet installed!

As you can see, it is quite possible to install and connect any type of sanitary faucet to the kitchen or bathroom on your own. The only difficulty can be caused by old worn out pipes, which require their replacement or modification of the plumbing system. But these tasks can be done on your own.

Installing the mixer yourself is quite simple. Almost everyone can do this task, you just need to take into account some points that will save your repair from flooding, help save nerve cells and save money.

About how to do without plumbing and install the mixer in the kitchen with your own hands without errors, and will be discussed further.

Walls, floors, countertops and any other surface may be damaged in the course of work.. Even if serious damage can be avoided, then you definitely won’t save them from dirt.

So the first step before installing the faucet will be cover everything around with cardboard or at least oilcloth.

Consumables and tools

You will need:

  • adjustable wrench (it is also called a "bob key");
  • two "studs" (rod with external thread) for fasteners;
  • two hoses (usually come with a mixer);
  • round plates with a small hole in the middle - gaskets;
  • you may need pliers and a few wrenches (for 13 or 14) wrenches.

Examination

We put the new mixer in its "legitimate" place. And immediately check how tightly the lower mount is fixed. The mixer must stand "confidently" on the surface if it moves - you need to tighten the bolts a little harder. In some cases, when the length of the fastener does not allow you to “pull up” the mixer, you can make the bolts a little shorter with a file or leave the substrate.

spout, that is, the moving part of your mixer, also shouldn't talk. Try turning the faucet to the maximum allowable angle while holding the entire faucet with your free hand.

The handle(s) should "walk" only along its own path, and clearly - without backlash. Otherwise, the mixer is considered defective.

Step-by-step instruction

Primarily, need to turn off the water. And, of course, both cold and hot.

This is done with the help of special valves that are located on the risers. They need to be fully tightened and checked for water flow.

By the way, so that there is a little more space for work, you can pull the sink out a little(where possible, of course).

First went

We fix the first hose on the mixer, through which water will flow. The mixer usually has markings that will help you figure out where to connect cold and where hot. If you put the tap right in front of you, then on the right there will be an eyeliner with cold water.

It is better to connect the first hose where the short fitting is located (this is such a threaded rod). After that, from the pins on the mixer bronze nuts are removed, and the studs themselves are twisted.

Fixing on the sink

Run a hose through the hole in the sink, screwed to the mixer at one end, then we connect the second. Our faucet is already on the sink, it's time for the bronze nuts, which we removed from the studs.

We draw the tap to the sink with them, but do not forget that at first both sides must be sealed.

In order to properly fix the studs with nuts, it is better not to rely on finger strength, but to use a wrench. You don't need to tighten too hard. If you overdo it, you can damage the sink and break the bolts - the faucet will leak.

Connecting to the system

Now that the mixer is firmly in place, it's time to connect the faucet to the water supply. The hoses are attached to the pipes with a union nut.

As earlier, You have to be careful not to over tighten it.. Too much stress can noticeably bring the need for repairs in the kitchen closer.

If you put the crane directly in front of you, then on the right there will be an eyeliner with cold water.

For information on how to properly install the faucet in the kitchen, see the video clip:

Good to know

  1. Before putting water into a new mixer, it will not be superfluous to carefully check all connections.. The faucet itself must also be firmly fixed on the surface of the sink.

    To protect yourself from surprises, before starting the water, check if it is in the off state.

  2. If you are not just installing a mixer, but changing the old one to a new one, then it will not be superfluous drain all the water first. To do this, before disconnecting the wires, tighten the valves and open the taps.
  3. The place where the new mixer will be located should be thoroughly cleaned before starting work.. Sometimes cleaning products are enough, and sometimes you have to use sandpaper.
  4. Before fixing the faucet securely in place, it is best to check how straight it is and only then tighten the fixing bolts.

It is worth noting that sometimes repairs or cabinets of kitchen furniture make installing a faucet a real nightmare. In this case, it is better not to rely on your own strength and seek help from professionals. Remember an unreliably fixed crane can lead to where big spending than it will save on the labor of a plumber.
