A crane during construction or repair is an indispensable thing, especially if you have to work with heavy building materials, and the number of assistants is limited. It can serve as an indispensable tool when lifting property, furniture to the upper floors of the house and save you from dragging when moving. A rod is installed on top of the center of this device to engage it with a hook. A clamp in the form of a screw is made on the side in the center, which will hold the building material.

When lifting a log or beam to the desired height, the crane on wheels easily rolls back in the right direction, and the material falls into place for further installation and fastening. The structure of the lift must be on a flat, solid surface for easy movement.

Such lifting mechanisms help to carry out work efficiently and quickly with minimal physical exertion that even children can do.

Horizontal boom lift

A crane with a horizontal boom is made as follows. A frame is welded from a pipe or a corner crosswise on wheels, on which in the rear part it is necessary to make a place for a counterweight to avoid loss of balance of the crane during operation and its fall. It has casters for easy movement. The larger the bed area, the more stable the crane.

Stops are installed on its edges near the wheels to prevent movement during operation.

After the frame is made, a mast is vertically installed in its center, on which the boom is fixed. The mount must be strong, it must rotate around its axis.

An additional stop with a handle is attached horizontally from the vertical mast for its rotation. A place for mounting a manual or electric winch is installed on it. An additional mast is additionally mounted vertically to the stop, which is attached to the boom from above to ensure greater stability and enhance its fixation.

At the top, an boom is attached to both masts, equipped at both ends with rollers for a cable so that the central vertical support rests against the center of the boom, and the second, additional, exactly in the center between the first mast and the rear edge of the boom.

A winch is placed on a horizontal stop fixed on the second vertical mast.


Its cable first passes through the roller on the back of the boom, then through the front roller with a hook at the end. The assembly of the entire crane structure is made with extreme strength and the possibility of its disassembly for ease of transportation. A gripper is installed, which raises the blocks.

Construction from improvised means for work in the garage

Such a homemade lift is especially needed for those who repair cars, forremoval or installation of heavy components and assemblies of the machine.


The crane is assembled from a frame, which is welded from a pipe, an iron profile, and corners. It is easier to install them crosswise, as this arrangement ensures greater stability of the crane. Wheels are attached to the edges for ease of movement around the garage.

The height of modern houses is becoming more and more, but the severity of concrete blocks is not decreasing. For this reason, even for domestic purposes, it would be nice to make a crane with your own hands. This design, of course, will not have a large load capacity, approximately 200 kg. Of course, this is probably not the limit, but it is better not to experiment. This crane is a fully prefabricated structure, which weighs from 200 to 300 kg, so self-assembly of such a crane will not cause difficulties. In addition, this crane is very convenient to transport, it fits in a Chinese pickup truck.

The cargo winch can be made from a worm gear with an electric drive of 600 W, but the boom winch can be made from a manual drive organized by means of the same gearbox.

As a base for outriggers on screw stops, you can use construction supports. For the manufacture of drums for winches, rotors from electric motors can be used, and they should be selected in accordance with the dimensions.

The mobile platform must be equipped with wheels that were previously on the conveyor trolley. This makes it easy to move the crane from one position to another, all you have to do is remove the outriggers.

The removal and installation of these supports will take approximately five minutes. For this reason, the design can be considered quite mobile. However, it has not been without its disadvantage that in order to move the crane, the boom must be lowered to zero level, otherwise, the crane may roll over due to imbalance.

A do-it-yourself crane has a five-meter boom made from a pipe Ø 7.5 cm, and a square profile at the very base, made from a pair of corners. In addition, the crane has a portal to raise the boom, and a swivel mechanism, which is based on the hub from the truck.

As a counterweight, you can use a frame from a non-working machine complete with four tracked tracks, or just bricks. Brakes are not provided as part of the winch, since the need to use it is a big question.

The slewing mechanism also does not have a brake, since the crane is not designed to operate at high speeds, and therefore the inertial forces are too small.

The thinnest metal that is used for this faucet is approximately 3 mm. The outrigger and base, for the most part, are made of a rectangular pipe, with dimensions of 85 by 50 and 85 by 55. A 200 channel is used to make the base of the tower. At the same time, during rotation, overlapping or twisting of the cable is excluded.

The length of the stop screws is 40 cm. This means that the installation of the crane can be carried out even on extremely uneven ground.

Now at the expense of the wheels, everything is not so smooth here. It's about a small flaw. The essence of the problem lies in the fact that when using a crane with the described wheels on loose soil during movement, the wheels burrow into the ground, and if the soil is hard, then there are no problems. The described design can be considered disposable, which means that after you have completed the necessary work, it should be disassembled into metal or until the next time. It is for this reason that such a design has an insignificant load capacity, and is not durable.

A crane of this type is made in about three days, given that all the necessary components are prepared. The manufacture of gearboxes was made from the first items that came to hand. The following gear ratios are incorporated in the gearboxes: 1 to 30 and 1 to 35.

The connection of a three-phase motor is carried out in a single-phase network. It has output parameters on the shaft - 600 W, and capacitors with a capacity of 80 microfarads. The weight of all installations, excluding counterweights, will be approximately 250 kg, at a relatively low cost. The bulk of the components used are borrowed from other designs, you only have to take care of buying cables and bearings.

After you make a crane with your own hands, you can easily lift 150-200 kg, which is quite impressive, considering that it is not designed for industrial scale.

Drafting a project

A crane is needed to build a house. Let's consider how to independently make the design of a miniature crane for lifting construction loads to a height. It is necessary to make a mobile collapsible device.


First, they draw up and calculate a project for the manufacture of the apparatus:

  1. The main part of the structure is the support frame. It is installed on wheels or permanently.
  2. The rotation unit of the unit is fixed on the running frame.
  3. The boom can be rotated thanks to the creation of electric or manual control.
  4. The unit can be disassembled into parts for easy transportation.
  5. The crane will be stable thanks to the creation of a block of counterweights and steel cable braces.
  6. The load will be lifted using a block and a winch.

To make a crane, first of all, they draw up a project diagram and drawings of the main components. Consider the manufacture of a manual crane design. It would be possible to make an apparatus on electricity, which makes it possible to move the load using a device on a long cable, as happens in factory designs. But then the complexity of manufacturing nodes increases, this will lead to an increase in the cost of the finished product and an increase in the time for its creation. Welding

All connections of components and parts are performed by welding. This requires a welding machine. It can be rented while working on the execution of the crane or bought in a specialized salon.

Construction assembly

Prepare:

  • rope;
  • washers;
  • corners and channels;
  • pipe;
  • grinder;
  • welding machine.


The frame should be made of a steel corner 63x63x5 mm. An arrow 5 m long is made from a pipe having a diameter of 55 mm. To strengthen the unit, use corners measuring 30x30x3 mm.

The load capacity of such a homemade crane will be about 150 kg. If it is necessary to lift panels with a larger mass, then it is necessary to increase the multiplicity of chain hoists, which are a device for lifting loads. The chain hoist is made of blocks, connected to each other by a cable. This cable should wind the blocks in a circle. The chain hoist allows you to lift the panels, while applying less force than the weight of the load.

Polyspast wins in strength 3-4 times. In this case, friction losses are taken into account, which are 10%. The greater the gain in strength, the smaller the distance that the tool can move the panels.

You can prepare and make all the details in 7-10 days.

Another 2 days are needed to assemble the mechanism. The lifting scheme is made in the form of a 2-fold chain hoist. The boom turning unit is a 6-fold chain hoist. The turntable is made by attaching 2 washers. The axle replaces the 30mm bolt.


To reduce the size of the counterweights, the supporting legs are made 2 m long. With a washer turning radius of 200 mm and a distance of 2 m to the counterweight of 100 kg, a load of 1 t will act on the bolt. This is taken into account when calculating the tool design. Perform stability calculations.

The design is taken as a single system on one support. It is the smallest distance from the axis of rotation. The system is affected by: the weight of the load, counterweight and crane. The lifting drum is created from a pipe with a cross section of 100 mm. It should not be installed close to the blocks. It is fixed closer to the washers.

Blocks are made of 3 washers. They must be wrapped around with a cord, the diameter of the blocks must be large so that the ropes do not fly out of the washers. Blocks are fixed without bearings.

A flexible cable with a cross section of 5 mm is needed. Its working load is 150 kg, and its breaking load is 850 kg. The chain hoist operates on the principle of a lever. For a chain hoist, the main indicator is its multiplicity (the ratio of all branches of the cable to those extending from the drum).

If the cord has 6 parts, then the pulling force on the drum will be 6 times less than the weight of the load. If a rope is made to lift 100 kg of load, then folded 6 times, it will lift a load of 600 kg. When all systems are ready, you need to assemble them, according to the drawn up design scheme, taking into account all the dimensions and rules for attaching components and parts. After assembly, it is necessary to lubricate all structural systems and its individual parts with Lysol.

Following all the above instructions, you can independently make a crane for building a house and any utility rooms used on the farm. Before starting operation, it is necessary to check the operability of all components of the created crane design. Then carry out a verification test of the equipment for the possibility of lifting and moving loads.

It is impossible to do without jib light cranes with a lifting capacity of 1 ton when carrying out various electrical, installation and construction works. Thanks to their design, it is possible to mount devices in various openings of a building or on ceilings, as well as move them for convenient use. They are easy to assemble and install, and if necessary, they can be quickly disassembled into components and moved to a suitable location.

Peculiarities

The optimum boom height is 5 meters. For its manufacture, a pipe with a diameter of about 8 cm is used. A profile of two corners is mounted in the base. You also need to create a swivel mechanism for turning and lifting the boom; for this, an automobile hub from any truck is suitable. No special materials are needed for the counterweight, as standard bricks can be used for them. You can create a crane with your own hands on the basis of caterpillar tracks and a bed. The last element can be taken from an unused machine.

It is worth noting that there is no need for a brake for the slewing mechanism and the winch, since it is not needed during the operation of the crane, and the finished device will work at low speed.

The length of the thrust screws should be within 50 cm, due to which the crane can be mounted on any surface, including with a large number of irregularities. To build a crane, I needed materials:

DIY crane | Secrets and nuances

Hello dear DIYers.

Do you really need a crane? So let's do it. Small-sized, with turning and lifting of the boom, with a carrying capacity of two bags of cement, or 30 bricks, or 3 large buckets of concrete.

I made one for myself, and now I can’t imagine how I could build a two-story cottage with an area of ​​200 m2 together with my wife if this crane didn’t exist.

Here are the drawings, and below is a detailed description of the process.

Only at first a tiny digression: if anyone is looking for a simple lift for timber or logs, then look here.

Materials for the crane were mainly found in scrap metal. I had to buy only bearings, a winch, and order the details of the swivel mechanism to the turner.

And I also had to pay the welder, since I myself cannot do welding work, due to some vision problems.

In general, this crane cost 5,000 rubles, which cannot be compared with the amount of work that I managed to do with it, because the “cheapest” helper in our region costs 800 rubles a day.

I’ll make a reservation right away that during the operation, my crane revealed some shortcomings, which I will point out and advise how to fix them. So your faucet will be slightly different from mine.

Let's start with the swivel

It consists of six parts that need to be ordered by a turner, and two bearings.

As you can see, there are no dimensions on the drawing. The fact is that the exact size, like mine, you do not have to comply with. After all, we make a crane from improvised material, and I cannot know what size channel or I-beam, or which pipe will be at your fingertips.

A little more, or a little less, in my design, does not play any role. And you will understand this from further instructions. And having estimated in general what materials and parts you have, determine what dimensions to take for the manufacture of the rotary mechanism.

The mechanism has two bearings. At the top, between the housing and the base is a thrust bearing. Below, again between the housing and the base, is a simple radial bearing.

Rather, the body should be mounted on the bearing, and the base should go into it. Thus, both of these parts are connected. For more reliable fixation of the radial bearing, a nut is screwed onto the housing from below. The thickness of the threaded and retaining parts of the nut is up to you, but not less than 3 mm.

Then this assembly is attached to the platform with a bolt (I have M 26), which attracts the base to the platform. Thus, it turns out that the platform and base are a fixed part of the mechanism, and the body with the nut is rotating.

Now a little about what practice has shown. By the end of the season, the radial bearing was a little loose, and a barely noticeable play formed in the swivel mechanism.

But with an arrow length of 5 meters, this backlash became noticeably noticeable, so I recommend installing a hub bearing 36 mm wide instead of a radial bearing.

Here in Kazan, support and wheel bearings, you can buy both for 500 rubles. And in order to tighten the bolt that secures the base to the platform, you will need a ring wrench with an extension cord, and two washers are required - a flat one and a grover.

The next node we will have a rack.

To make it, you need a piece of pipe (I have d140), and four pieces of a channel. The height of the rack needs to be estimated so that in finished form it is just for you. Even an inch or two lower. Then it will be convenient, when operating the crane, to turn the winch.

Since God will hardly send you a piece of pipe with an evenly cut end, you will have to cut one end yourself. To do this, take a car clamp, or make a clamp from a strip of tin, and tighten it on the pipe.

When tightened, the clamp will seek to settle as evenly as possible on the pipe, and if you help it a little (by eye), you will get a fairly even line around the circumference of the pipe, which remains to be drawn, then remove the clamp, and cut the pipe along this line with a grinder .

Then, to this flat end of the pipe, the platform of the rotary mechanism is welded. Now it is clear why I did not give dimensions in the drawing? The swivel mechanism still has to be ordered. And you can find a tube. This means that the diameter of the platform can be ordered according to the diameter of the pipe.

Now legs. They need to be welded so that the rack does not collapse. How to do it? First, they need to be cut to the same length.

Then hang the pipe with the welded platform, passing the rope through the hole in the center of the platform, and put the legs obliquely to the pipe, so that in the end the pipe remains hanging evenly, and the legs rest against it on four sides.

As soon as the balance is found, you need to visually draw the corners of the channels that abut against the pipe, and cut them with a grinder as shown in the photo.

After trimming the corners, lean your legs against the pipe again, catch your balance, check with a rail and tape measure so that they form an even cross, and grab them by welding. After tacking, check the cross again, and you can weld it.

It remains to make the supporting cross itself. You can make it from any hard profile. At first, there was an idea to put it on wheels made of bearings, but time was running out, and it didn’t get to the wheels, otherwise it would have been nice. The unit turned out to be quite heavy, and it was difficult to move it.

The length of the arms of the cross, I have 1.7 meters, although as the operation has shown, this cross does not play a particularly large role in the stability of the crane. The main stability is provided by balance, which we will talk about later.

The cross is not welded to the legs, but is attached with bolts and nuts M 10. This was done for the convenience of possible transportation. The reinforcement of the legs was made in order to install the wheels, but the matter never came to them, although there is still an idea to install them.

The stand with the slewing mechanism is ready, now let's take care of the crane platform, on which the counterweight, winches, and boom will be installed. On the platform I found a one and a half meter I-beam, 180 mm wide. But I think you can use a channel for it, and even a bar 150 x 200.

At first, I even wanted to use a beam, but since I found an I-beam, the choice settled on it. The platform is attached to the body of the swivel mechanism with four bolts and nuts M 10.

If a beam is used instead of an I-beam, then additional platforms will need to be made for it, above and below. You can "grasp" it with two pieces of channel, and tighten everything with bolts.

But let's wait with the bolts for now, since the place where the platform is attached to the swivel mechanism will need to be selected according to balance. That is, the crane boom must be balanced by a block for counterweights, and a winch. That is, the crane must stand confidently on the stand, and not fall over.

The next block will be counterweights.

For me, it is made from pieces of the same channel as the platform, but you can make it from anything, and in any way. The main thing is to get a container in which it will be possible to install loads, so that, if necessary, the counterweight can be increased.

Now about the winch. I have a winch installed with a capacity of 500 kg, with a brake. And once again, as practice has shown, such power, for lifting a load of about 100 kg, was not enough.

That is, you can lift it, but you have to lean on the handle so much that when you rise to a height of more than 5 meters, you get tired very quickly. For such a crane, a winch for 1 - 1.5 tons is needed.

A second winch was also supposed to be used to lift the boom, but at that time, having traveled around a bunch of shops and markets, I could only find one winch with a brake, which you see in the photo. Therefore, instead of the second winch, a temporary stretching cable was made, the length of which is still changed with the help of clamps.

Unfortunately, there is nothing more permanent than a temporary building. I recommend that you still put a winch instead of it, and preferably a worm. Her speed is small, and the brake, even up or down, is dead. What is needed for an arrow.

It remains to make an arrow, which we will do. The boom consists of a mount with a shaft, a bar 150 x 50, and a tip with a pulley.

First - the body of the mount. It is better to make it from a piece of channel.

Any round timber with a diameter of 20 to 30 mm will fit for the shaft. For example, I cut off a piece of the rotor shaft, some old engine. Then we bend in a vice, around this shaft there are two brackets and fasten it to the channel, into which the beam will then be inserted.

We buy two simple bearings, so that they fit tightly on the shaft, and cut out a seat in the mounting housing.

The Pioneer crane is an indispensable machine during loading and unloading, installation, construction and repair work. In order for the crane to finally be able to function, it is necessary to equip it with certain cables of the smallest diameter. You will already have to spend money on them in a specialized hardware store (although you may also be lucky to find them in a landfill). You can use the channel as a material for welding the support and swivel frames. It is the channel that allows a good fixation of the crane on the surface. In order to work with the machine without excesses, and also to protect yourself, it is necessary to weld a platform for a rectangular ballast.

One foundation block will be enough to lift a load weighing half a ton. To start the lifting process, you can purchase an electric motor in a special store, and then connect it to a winch from the UAZ.
