Partisan detachment friendly Antonov Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky.

The fourth Soviet military order was the Order of Bohdan Khmelnitsky. The idea of its establishment belonged to the famous film director A.P. Dovzhenko, who in 1943 was a war correspondent and worked on documentary"The Battle for Our Soviet Ukraine". His idea was supported by the command. 13 artists took part in the competition for best sketch orders. The winners of the competition were the artist N. I. Moskalev and the graphic artist A. S. Pashchenko. The order was a silver five-pointed star superimposed on a gold one. In the center is a golden circle with the image of Bogdan Khmelnitsky, bordered by a silver figured rim.

On October 10, 1943, the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR established this new order. Like the Orders of Suvorov and Kutuzov, the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky had three degrees.

The Order of the 1st degree could be awarded to the commanders of fronts and fleets, armies and flotillas, their deputies, chiefs of staff, operational departments and departments or their equal in position for a successful operation using skillful maneuver, as a result of which a district, city or other settlements of particular importance, and the enemy suffered a serious defeat in manpower and equipment.

The Order of Bohdan Khmelnitsky 2nd class was awarded to commanders of corps and divisions, brigades and regiments, their deputies, chiefs of staff and their equals for breaking through an enemy fortified zone, a successful operation to force a water line, a deep raid behind enemy lines, which resulted in its communications were severely disrupted and sensitive damage was done to their rear bases.

The order of the 3rd degree was awarded to privates, sergeants, foremen and officers up to and including the battalion commander and the corresponding ones, as well as to the commanders of partisan detachments and partisans - for courageous initiative and determination, which ensured the infliction of defeat on the enemy, the capture of a settlement or an important line, for courage and resourcefulness, which ensured the successful conduct of a military operation, inflicting heavy damage on the enemy and disrupting his military measures; for personal initiative, courage and perseverance shown in the performance of a combat mission and contributed to the success of the operation.

Half a month after the publication of the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on the establishment of this order, on October 26, 1943, the country learned the name of its first cavalier. For the skillful and courageous leadership of the combat operations of the 12th Army during the liberation of Zaporozhye from the Nazi invaders, the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky 1st degree was awarded to the commander of this army, Major General A. I. Danilov.

Subsequently, famous commanders - S. S. Biryuzov, V. M. Zakharov, M. E. Katukov, P. K. Koshevoy, D. D. Lelyushenko, K. S. Moskalenko, I. D. Chernyakhovsky became holders of the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky , A. A. Grechko, famous partisan leaders S. A. Kovpak, M. I. Naumov, A. N. Saburov, I. F. Fedorov and others.

The Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky 1st degree was awarded to 10 military formations. This list was opened by the 1st separate Order of Suvorov, 2nd class, Czechoslovak brigade, commanded by Ludwig Svoboda. She was awarded on January 4, 1944 for exemplary performance of command assignments in the battles for the liberation of the city of Belaya Tserkov.

On August 10 of the same year, the 68th separate Zhytomyr tank brigade received this award. Having overcome the so-called Koltovsky corridor, she successfully developed an offensive against Lvov. The Order of Bohdan Khmelnitsky became the fourth on the banner of the brigade. Prior to that, she was awarded the orders of Suvorov, Kutuzov and Alexander Nevsky, thus collecting all the military orders on her battle banner.

On October 26, the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky 2nd degree was awarded to the commander of the 90th separate rifle brigade, Lieutenant Colonel I.N. Kaplun and the engineer of the 81st Guards Rifle Division, Major V.V. Tarasenko for the successful crossing of the Dnieper. In the presentation for the award, I. N. Kaplun says that he “skillfully organized the collection of crossing funds and personally supervised the crossing. The crossing was carried out quickly, in an organized manner, without losses in manpower and equipment. I successfully chose a bridgehead for the deployment of combat formations of the crossed units. V. V. Tarasenko, commanding subordinate sapper units and setting a personal example of courage and fearlessness, landed with the first group of fighters on the right bank of the Dnieper near the village of Borodaevka. Speed and audacity allowed them to capture a bridgehead 7 kilometers wide and 3 kilometers deep. Sappers under heavy enemy fire quickly brought the crossing. Soon the entire division was on the right bank of the river.

Two days later, the first awarding of the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky 3rd degree was made. For heroism and courage in battles with enemies, he was awarded the deputy battalion commander of the 49th Infantry Regiment, Senior Lieutenant T. D. Rybin. But he did not have time to receive the award, as he died the death of the brave.

Among those awarded this order and the guards, foreman P. X. Dubinda - Hero Soviet Union and full cavalier of the Order of Glory. In January 1945, the 96th Guards Ilovaisky Rifle Division fought in East Prussia. After breaking through a heavily fortified strip northwest of the city of Shtallupenen (now Nesterov), its 293rd Guards Regiment was stopped near the village of Paduken (now the village of Stepnoe, Chernyakhovsky District Kaliningrad region). P. Kh. Dubinda with scouts, having made a roundabout maneuver, broke into the enemy positions from the rear and cleared a kilometer section in hand-to-hand combat, while destroying three dozen fascists.

In total, the Order of Bohdan Khmelnitsky produced 8451 awards. Of these, the order of the 1st degree - 320, 2nd degree - 2390, 3rd degree - 5738 people. This order is also attached to the banners of 1076 units and formations.

Order of Bohdan Khmelnitsky - Soviet military order of the times of the Great Patriotic War.

History

The Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky is the fourth and last among all military orders of the USSR. It was established last - in 1943, in the days of the liberation of the territory of Ukraine by Soviet troops. This order could be awarded not only to commanders of army and navy units operating at the front, but also to privates and sergeants of army units. In addition, this award could be awarded to commanders and members of partisan formations and detachments that operated in the territory occupied by the enemy during the war years. At the same time, one of the main features of the award was in its design. It was the only Soviet order, the inscription on which was made in Ukrainian, and not in Russian. It was also the only military order, one of the degrees of which could be awarded to the rank and file.

The idea of establishing a new award belonged to the famous film director A.P. Dovzhenko, who in 1943 worked as a war correspondent on a new documentary film "The Battle for Our Soviet Ukraine". At the same time, there is another version of the appearance of this order. According to her, the idea belonged to Lieutenant General N. S. Khrushchev, who at that time was a member of the military council of the 1st Ukrainian Front. In any case, this idea was supported by the Soviet command. 13 artists took part in the work on creating a sketch of the future award. The graphic artist A.S. Pashchenko and the artist N.I. Moskalev became the winners. The variant they proposed was a five-pointed silver star, which was superimposed on a gold one. In the center was a circle with the image of Bohdan Khmelnitsky. The decree on the establishment of a new military order was signed by the USSR Armed Forces on October 10, 1943.

Peculiarities

The Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky is the last of the established Soviet "land" military orders during the Great Patriotic War. This is the only Soviet military order, the third degree of which could be awarded to privates, as well as partisans.

The Order of Bohdan Khmelnitsky is the only order of the USSR, the inscription on which is not in Russian (Ukr. Bogdan Khmelnitsky).

Established during the liberation of Ukraine at the suggestion of a member of the Military Council of the 1st Ukrainian Front, Lieutenant General N. S. Khrushchev; among the participants in its creation were figures of Ukrainian culture: film director A.P. Dovzhenko and poet Mykola Bazhan.

13 artists took part in the competition for the best sketch of the order. The sketch of the artist N.I. Moskalev and the graphic artist A.S. Pashchenko. The very name of the order and the Ukrainian language of the inscription indicated its predominant confinement to the Ukrainian SSR, although this was not officially stipulated anywhere in the statute. In fact, they were awarded mainly to those who distinguished themselves on four Ukrainian fronts. It was widely awarded to partisans (by a decree of January 4, 1944, many leaders of partisan associations in Ukraine were awarded the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky of the first two degrees).

Rewarding

The first awarding of the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky III degree took place on October 28, 1943. According to it, the deputy commander of the battalion, senior lieutenant Rybin T.D., was awarded the order.

The first Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on awarding the Order of Bohdan Khmelnitsky III degree was issued on January 14, 1944. It highlights the successful fighting groups of Ukrainian partisans during the liberation of the city of Ovruch. As a result of the battle with the eight thousandth fascist garrison, the city was liberated, and a red flag was hoisted on the highest building. It was installed by partisan Ivan Kalashnikov, one of the first holders of the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky III degree. The list of ten partisans - holders of orders of the III degree was opened by the surname of the partisan scout E.A. partisan detachments of the Ukrainian SSR with the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky).

Among the cavaliers of the Order of Bohdan Khmelnitsky, III degree, there is a marine foreman Dubinda P.Kh. - the first of the Soviet soldiers, awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union and at the same time all three degrees of the Order of Glory.

In the autumn of 1943, the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky was awarded to the attack pilot, Lieutenant Beregovoy G.T. (subsequently twice GSS and pilot-cosmonaut of the USSR).

Let me give you a typical example of an award. The Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky III degree No. 714 was awarded by order to the troops of the 2nd Ukrainian Front No. 066 / n dated November 6, 1943 Captain Bolkhovsky Mikhail Leontyevich, commander of the 104th engineer-sapper battalion of the 5th engineer-sapper brigade of the RGK (57th Army , 2nd Ukrainian Front). With the release of units of the 57th Army to the Dnieper River, the battalion of Captain Bolkhovsky was entrusted with the task of ensuring the crossing of the river by units of the 64th and 27th rifle corps. Captain Bolkhovsky, appointed chief of staff for the organization of the crossing, during September 24-25, 1943, outlined points for landing and ferry crossings. He concentrated the crossing property and on September 26, 1943, he began to transfer the units and their military equipment to the right bank. Despite heavy shelling of the crossing by enemy artillery and mortar fire, Bolkhovsky personally led the crossing. Established severe discipline and order among the units prepared for the crossing. He demanded from the combined arms commanders complete obedience to the established order. The fierce fire of the enemy and the continuous bombardment from the air did not prevent Bolkhovsky from carrying out his task in cold blood. The personal presence of the commander of the unit, his courage and courage inspired the sappers to better perform the task. As a result of the excellent leadership of Bolkhovsky, the battalion in a short time transported more than 16 thousand people, about 100 different guns and mortars, 3820 boxes of ammunition, 285 horses, 200 anti-tank mines and other military equipment to the right bank of the Dnieper River.

Many units and formations were attached to their banners of the Order of Bohdan Khmelnitsky II and III degree. For example, let's name some of them.

The Order of Bohdan Khmelnitsky III degree was awarded to:

  • 74th separate assault engineer-sapper battalion;
  • 395th Separate Sapper Order of Alexander Nevsky Battalion (awarded for participating in the liberation of the city of Brno);
  • 919th separate corps sapper Stanislavsky battalion (awarded for participation in the liberation of the city of Uzhgorod).

There are many cases when soldiers and officers presented to the orders of Bogdan Khmelnitsky (especially III degree) did not receive a well-deserved award. This is what retired Lieutenant Colonel Kirilusha L.K. recalls. (during the war years, an officer of the headquarters of the 60th Guards Pavlograd Red Banner, Order of the Suvorov Rifle Division):

“Suddenly, Major General Monakhov (division commander) looked at me intently.

Where are your awards? - he asked. One of the staff officers reminded me that documents had been sent to award me with the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky III degree.

- When will it be? - the division commander objected. He called the chief of staff and dictated an order to award me the Order of the Red Star. Soon ... the general attached an order (of the Red Star) to my tunic. Congratulated on the award and said:

“Berlin is still a long way off. I hope that Bogdan will catch up with you on the way.

Unfortunately, this did not happen. The Order of Bogdan Khmelnytsky is “catching up” with me to this day.”

  • The Order of Bohdan Khmelnitsky, 1st class, was awarded 323 awards (including 10 units and subdivisions).
  • The Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky II degree was awarded 2390 awards (including 850 units and subdivisions).
  • The Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky III degree was awarded 5738 times (including 216 units and divisions).

History of the Order

The Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky was established by the last of the "land" military orders. This is the only military order, one of the degrees of which could be awarded to ordinary soldiers and partisans. It is also the only order of the USSR that had inscriptions not in Russian (Ukrainian inscription "BOGDAN KHMELNYTSKY").

The Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky was established in the days of the liberation of Ukraine at the suggestion of a member of the Military Council of the 1st Ukrainian Front, General of the Army Khrushchev N.S., and one of the initiators of the creation of the order was the famous Ukrainian film director A.P. Dovzhenko. and poet Mykola Bazhan.

Although the statute of the order did not stipulate the condition for the preferential awarding of the order to the soldiers of any front, nevertheless, the majority of those awarded were part of the Ukrainian fronts. Perhaps this is partly due to the huge number of partisan detachments operating in Ukraine (partisans were widely awarded the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky), and also to the fact that Khmelnitsky is a national hero of Ukraine.

The design of the order was created on a competitive basis. The work of graphic artist Pashchenko A.S. was recognized as the best. Pashchenko was the deputy head of the Department of Arts under the Council of People's Commissars of the Ukrainian SSR and the chairman of the Union of Artists of the Ukrainian SSR. The commission approved his design drawing, but suggested making all ten rays of the star the same length and modifying the badge of the III degree of the order. To finalize the project, the artist Moskalev N.I. was appointed to help Pashchenko. (the author of the Order of Kutuzov and in the future - the Order of Glory). Chasing and engraving work was done by the engraver V. Sokolov.

The Order of Bohdan Khmelnitsky, I degree No. 1, was awarded by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 26, 1943 to the commander of the 12th Army of the 3rd Ukrainian Front, Major General Danilov A.I. (a day later he was awarded the rank of lieutenant general) for participating in the liberation of the city of Zaporozhye. Among the first recipients of the Order of Bohdan Khmelnitsky, I degree, were the commander of the 57th Army, Lieutenant General Hagen N.A. (Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of December 20, 1943), commander of the 1st Guards Army, Colonel General Grechko A.A., commander of the 47th Army, Lieutenant General Zhmachenko F.F., commander of the 1st Tank Army, General lieutenant of the tank troops Katukov M.E., commander of the 13th army, lieutenant general Pukhov N.P. and others (Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 10, 1944). In 1945, already being a colonel general, Zhmachenko F.F. was awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnitsky I degree for the second time. In addition to him, Generals Baranov V.K., Borzov N.A., Bulychev I.T. were awarded two orders of Bohdan Khmelnitsky, I degree. other.

Among the holders of the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky, I degree, there were such famous military leaders as the chiefs of staff of the fronts, Generals Biryuzov S.S. and Zakharov M.V., army commander Moskalenko K.S., corps commander Koshevoy P.K. (all are future Marshals of the Soviet Union); Commander of the 3rd Belorussian Front, General of the Army I.D. Chernyakhovsky; army commander General of the Army Lelyushenko D.D.

Several employees of the NKVD and counterintelligence became holders of the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky, I degree. For example, we can name the head of the Special Department of the 3rd Ukrainian Front, General of the Army Ivashutin, and the commander of the NKVD division (later the NKVD corps), Lieutenant General Donskov.

As noted above, partisans were also awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnitsky. Already on January 4, 1944, by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR "On awarding the commanders and commissars of associations of partisan detachments of the Ukrainian SSR with the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky", a large group of leaders of the partisan struggle was awarded orders of the first and second degree. Among those awarded the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky, I degree, are well-known partisan commanders: major generals twice GSS Kovpak S.A., twice GSS Fedorov A.F., GSS Naumov M.I., GSS Saburov A.N. (cavalier of the orders of Bogdan Khmelnitsky I and II degrees), Begma V.A., colonels of the GSS Vershigor P.P. (later Major General) and Kizya L.E.

The Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky, I degree, was awarded to 10 units and formations. The first of them was awarded the 1st separate Order of Suvorov, II degree, the Czechoslovak brigade under the command of General Ludwig Svoboda. The award took place by Decree of January 4, 1944 for participation in the liberation of the Ukrainian city of Bila Tserkva.

The first awards with the Order of the II degree occurred in accordance with the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 26, 1943. The Order of Bohdan Khmelnitsky II degree No. 1 was awarded to the commander of the engineer battalion, Major Tarasenko B.V. for ensuring the crossing of the Dnieper during its forcing. The Order of the II degree No. 2 was awarded to the commander of the rifle brigade, Lieutenant Colonel Kaplun I.A. for distinction during the same operation.

Later, Major General V.F. Bogdanovich was awarded. (Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of November 1, 1943), Major General Afonin I.M., Kiryukhin N.I. (Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 10, 1944). Officers Bisyarin V.S., Gudkov L.S., Zhidkov V.K., Zorkin P.M., Kuznetsov P.I., Kurnosov G.A., Novak A.Ya. and others .

It noted the successful military operations of a group of Ukrainian partisans during the liberation of the city of Ovruch.

Many units and formations were attached to their banners of the Order of Bohdan Khmelnitsky II and III degree. For example, I will name some of them.

So, the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky II degree was awarded to:

This is what retired Lieutenant Colonel Kirilusha L.K. recalls. (during the war years, an officer of the headquarters of the 60th Guards Pavlograd Red Banner, Order of the Suvorov Rifle Division):

“Suddenly, Major General Monakhov (division commander) looked at me intently.

- Where are your awards?

- It's still far from Berlin. I hope that "Bogdan" will catch up with you on the way.

Unfortunately, this did not happen. The Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky is "catching up" with me to this day."

The Order of Bohdan Khmelnitsky, 1st class, was awarded 323 awards (including 10 units and subdivisions).

The Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky II degree was awarded 2390 awards (including 850 units and subdivisions).

In addition, it was the first military order, the third degree of which could be received by privates and sergeants of the USSR army. As well as the first order in the statute of which the officers of the Navy were mentioned.

He became famous thanks to the raised Cossack uprising against the power of the Commonwealth in the Ukrainian lands, as well as the fact that in 1654 he proclaimed the reunification of Ukraine with Russia, as a result of which the lands of the Zaporozhian army came under Russian control. In 1648, having gathered an army consisting of Zaporizhzhya Cossacks, he went on a campaign to western Ukraine, as a result he won victories at Zhovti Vody, Korsun, Pilyavtsy and took the siege of Lvov. In 1649, he continued his campaign and besieged the city of Zbarazh, the Polish army, led by King Jan Casimir himself, followed to the aid of the besieged city. Bogdan Khmelnitsky knew the route of the troops and set up an ambush, not far from Zborov, initially the battle with some interruptions was successful for Bogdan Khmelnitsky, but the betrayal of the Tatars who fought on his side forced him to sit down at the negotiating table.
