How to make a bed out of wood. Schemes and drawings

Unfortunately, many of us, for various reasons, neglect a comfortable rest in a warm cozy bed on a comfortable mattress and for many years sleep, for example, on a folding sofa. For those who set out to replace the sofa with a comfortable bed, we offer the cheapest option - to make a wooden bed with your own hands, drawings and photographs with a step-by-step description, which will be given in our article.

But, in order to be able to relax in comfort, you will have to sweat a little, because assembling the bed yourself is less expensive, but more laborious. And, of course, you can not do without the purchase of a mattress.

How to make a bed "one and a half"

In any case, it is important to understand what you are doing! Therefore, before you start doing something, you need to look at what should happen.

This is a sketch of a one-and-a-half bed, which we have to assemble with our own hands.

If you already have a mattress, then when making a wooden bed, you need to build on its size. In our example, the width of the bed will be 140 cm (the width of the mattress), and about two meters in length.

Outline drawing of a simple wooden bed

It must be understood that on this bed the mattress will lie as in a cell, so the internal dimensions of the frame must be equal to the dimensions of the mattress.

The bed should be not only durable, but also beautiful, so for the manufacture of the frame we will use a massive board 25 cm wide and 4 cm thick (height). For the frame, you will need 2 boards 2.08 m long and 2 boards 1.4 m long. They can be immediately connected to each other with self-tapping screws.

Every bed must have legs. We make them from a square bar (50x50 mm). The length of each leg is 25 cm. Since all the edges of the legs have 90 ° between themselves, this will give the frame a regular rectangular shape and add structural rigidity.

We fasten the frame boards to the legs, while in order to reduce stress in the tree, it is necessary to pre-drill holes for screws (self-tapping screws).

When the frame is assembled, it is necessary to screw the supporting strips to the longitudinal beams, which will take the load from the lamellas (or, as they are also called, logs) and transfer it to the frame and legs of the bed. These planks must have a sufficient margin of safety to withstand the mass of vacationers, so we will use a square bar 40x40 mm. Since the slats must be on both sides of the frame, we will need two pieces of timber 190 cm long each.

We insert the supporting strips between the legs of the bed and fasten them to the body with self-tapping screws every 15 cm.

Assembling the base of a wooden lorry bed

To install the lag on which the mattress will lie, small bars can be screwed onto the supporting strips, which form grooves. Thus, each lag will fall into place.

The grooves may or may not be done. Logs can be set at the distance you need. You can also use lamellas that are sold in stores along with special mounts. And if you get too lazy to mess with the lags, you can use, for example, a sheet of plywood. It lies freely on the supporting bars, and it is unnecessary to screw it.

You just have to come up with an original headboard for the resulting bed and lay the mattress. Pleasant dreams.

Original double bed made of solid wood

Below is a list in order to make the body of such a bed with your own hands. The dimensions of the frame are designed for a mattress of 2000 x 1600 mm.

for the frame:

13 meters square beam (80x80 mm):

  • sunbed - 5 segments of 2 meters;
  • legs - 4 pieces of 0.25 m;
  • headboard - 2 pieces of 1 meter.

for the crate:

12 m of square beam (40x40 mm) for supporting strips and about 50 meters of mounting board with a section of 20x60 mm (battens).

For the backrest, you need two edged boards with a section of 25x160 mm or 30x160 mm, 1600 mm long.

If there is a timber warehouse near you, the cost of timber and boards will be no more than three thousand rubles. You also need to purchase fasteners.

The assembly of the bed frame must begin with the frame, for this we tighten together, using large screws with a countersunk head for a hex key, a bar 80x80. First, we connect two (longitudinal) two-meter cuts with a rear (transverse) cut 144 cm long. We fasten the rear legs at the corners.

In the center of the transverse rear beam we fasten an intermediate longitudinal beam 184 cm long. On the opposite side, the intermediate beam is attached to the front transverse beam, strictly in the center of the latter. The length of the front transverse beam is 128 cm.

This difference in the length of the front and rear transverse bars is due to the difference in the attachment of the front and rear legs.

Drawing of a bed under a mattress 160x200 cm.

If the rear legs were attached in the corners, then the front legs are installed in the gaps between the left and right longitudinal and front transverse beams.

Rear leg attachment.

Front leg attachment.

For reliability, the entire body is reinforced with metal plates at the junctions of the beams (flat and corner).

When the frame is assembled, from the inside, the beams must be sheathed with a 40x40 beam, which will act as the basis for the crate.

The support beam 40x40 mm must be fixed in such a way that there is a gap of 20 mm required for the crate.

Solid wood double bed base

Using the mounting board, we make the crate of the frame. We make a gap of 2 cm between the boards. About 23 boards 68 cm long should go to each rug of the bed.

Now that the bed frame is almost ready, all that remains is to make a headboard for it. To do this, take the remaining timber 80x80 mm. If you did everything right, then there should have been 2 meters left. We cut the beam in half. The resulting racks can be immediately screwed with screws to the front legs of the bed, but relying on such a headboard, if you want to lie down on a reclining bed, will be very inconvenient. Therefore, it is necessary that the body of the bed and the backrest are at an obtuse angle to each other. To do this, on the racks, at the place of attachment to the legs, we cut at an angle.

But this slope is not enough, so we file the rack again, only now in a different direction.

We fasten the edged board to the finished racks.

We strengthen the structure of the bed (at the legs) with additional spacers, we process wood and paint.

The bed is ready, it remains only to install it in the bedroom and put the mattress.

In addition to the description, we bring to your attention a diagram of the use of hardware when assembling a structure.

A few notes about this drawing:

Black arrows show yellow (yellow-passivated) self-tapping screws for wood, size 5 × 80, fixing the bars of the base of the crate - 40 pcs. Red arrows indicate the location of the hardware for assembling the frame (6x120) - 15 pcs. Green - wood bolt (as additional fasteners) - 4 pcs. Under them, preliminary drilling of holes slightly smaller than the diameter of the hardware is necessary. The diagram also shows the location of the metal corners and overlays. 8 corners and 2 overlays - dimensions based on the dimensions of the beam. This is the minimum set of fasteners. Fasteners for the headboard, jib and for unforeseen purposes are also needed. So take it with a margin.

Dear readers, if you still have questions, ask them using the form below. We will be glad to communicate with you;)

    Should the bed be painted or stained?

    The stain will emphasize the texture of the wood, the paint on the wood will make the frame complete, allowing you to fit the structure into the interior.

    Hello, I liked your bed, everything is beautiful and clear. Could you calculate the amount of material for the same bed but with a bed size of 180x200 cm.
    I can't figure it out because I'm not a professional. Help me please.

    For better clarity, I added a drawing of the bed frame to the article, but this example is for a 160x200 cm mattress.
    In your case (180x200), the number of lengths of the transverse elements will change:
    1. At the head: the support bars (40x40) will be 780mm each and the frame bar (80x80) will be 1440mm.
    2 At the feet: support bars were 600 mm, will be 700 mm each. The frame beam was 1440 mm, it will be 1640 mm.

    Good afternoon Please tell me if it is possible to use a 50*50 beam instead of a 80 * 80 beam using metal corners with a stiffening rib along the perimeter for rigidity. From a bar 80 * 80 the bed turns out to be heavy. Thank you in advance

    If you plan to use the corners of this, then this will strengthen the structure as a whole, but of course it will not save the longitudinal and even transverse bars from deflection. Beam 50x50 is too weak for these purposes. Of course, you will assemble the bed, taking it as a basis, but it can break under you on the first night. Do not risk the nerves of your neighbors and your health. Regarding the weight: you make a bed from natural materials - this is an indisputable plus, as well as the appearance with proper processing. Also, do not forget that the bed is collapsible, when moving or moving, it will be easy to separate and move where you want. It seems to me that the weight problem is far-fetched.

    Very clear explanation and drawing. Thank you. But could you tell me specifically (for the especially gifted) what fasteners, what sizes and how much to buy. The fact is that in this I am still a big layman and I will assemble the bed myself. Thanks for the answer.

    Inna, the answers to your questions have been moved to the article

    Hello. In the manufacturing technology you describe, the assembly of all parts of the bed is carried out on self-tapping screws. In this regard, I had a few questions, they may seem simple, but still I would like to hear the opinion of a knowledgeable person:
    1. How to choose the right length of a self-tapping screw depending on the thickness of the parts?
    2. How can you strengthen the connection of wooden parts on self-tapping screws, it can loosen over time, and even more begins to fasten, constantly tighten chtoli?
    3. How can I attach the bed frame to the legs without screws?
    Thanks in advance for the clarifications.

    Alexander:
    1. The length of the screws should be as long as possible to ensure optimum assembly strength. If the thickness of each of the two parts to be joined is 40 mm, self-tapping screws are selected in the range of 70-75 mm, taking into account the depth of the cap by 2-3 mm.
    2. The best way to further strengthen the connection is to use wood glue, which is pre-lubricated at the junction.
    3. Instead of a screw, long M10 or M12 bolts can be used to connect massive wooden parts. For their installation, through holes are drilled in the legs with a diameter equal to the diameter of the thread. Similar holes are drilled at the ends of the boards. To install the washer and nut in the harness, drill a blind hole with a spade drill with a diameter of 20-25 mm so that it is perpendicular to the end holes.

    Get a normal bed

    HEAVY BUT STRONG ENOUGH

    Hello.

    For a double bed, it turns out that in the area of \u200b\u200bthe back leg, the bed is attached to the leg with 2 self-tapping screws (for a cut).

    You can add if you want

    Hello, Alexander! I was looking for such a bed as you made, in order to at least explain in the workshop what I need to make. On sale there are only imported ones, incl. with delivery from abroad. Unfortunately, on the Internet there is often no signature of the author under an article or a note, in which city he lives and how you can contact him if you really need to. Your post is no exception. I would be happy to ask you to make such a bed. And I also have a question: is it possible to put a layer of rubber, a layer of foam rubber and a layer of batting on top instead of a mattress? Or something similar, flat, semi-rigid. How is it done and attached? The point of this whole undertaking in general is to get a bed without a wooden frame around the perimeter, so that your feet do not rub against the edge of the wooden frame (and if the mattress sags over time, then you will have to thump on the wooden edge). And I want a semi-rigid non-spring base (see above). I have one of these beds. I need about the same functionality.

    Yes, indeed, how tired I am of sleeping on my uncomfortable folding sofa. After reading your article, I just got a burning desire to create my own bed, because then I can take into account everything that I would like to see in my bed. The only BUT, I have practically no tools, most likely I will have to borrow tools from a friend so as not to spend money on a purchase.

    Good afternoon,
    please tell me how the mattress 1600x2000 is fixed on your frame 1600x2000?
    Sincerely,
    Vadim

    No way, put on top, if you are careful that he will move out - this will not happen.
    I just looked at a similar bed with a mattress, its frame is slightly higher than the lower level of the mattress, and the size is slightly larger - let's say 1605 × 2000, but the mattress lies on the base - without touching the restrictive side elements of the frame.

    Good afternoon, thank you for sharing your experience!

    I will also ask you for advice.
    There is a non-standard orthopedic mattress 120*200. You will have to make a non-standard frame-bed.

    Please tell me what materials (their sizes) in this case you need to buy.
    Thank you in advance.

    And I wanted to make the legs of the bed right under the beams, so that the beams rest on them, and not attached to the sides, is there any difference in this?

    Hello. And I'm wondering, it turns out that the bed turned out to be the same level, and the mattress can move out. How to make it securely fit into the recess for him?

    Daniel, the option you suggested is more preferable, so go for it

    Alla, calculate the materials by analogy with the proposed option, only the width of the bed will change

    Yuri, you are right, such a design of this bed option

Today, many are concerned about the environmental cleanliness of the premises. Furniture products that are safe for health, for the production of which materials of natural origin are used, are no exception. This question is more relevant for furniture in the bedroom, in particular - for the bed, where each of us spends a third of our lives, relaxing and gaining energy in order to actively work during the day. Now such beds are purchased in the store, but they are quite expensive, and problems arise with the selection of sizes or design solutions. So more and more often, many decide to make such furniture on their own.

Choosing a material

How is a do-it-yourself double bed made, the drawings and diagrams of which are given in this article? First you need to decide on the materials. The main thing is to purchase MDF, the thickness of which is three centimeters. Separate parts will have to be cut out of it so that their texture resembles the wood of expensive species.

In addition to MDF, it is recommended to buy laminate boards. In this case, during installation work, nitroglue will be required, while MDF is normally connected with a simple PVA adhesive. This is one of the reasons why professional craftsmen prefer to work only with MDF. It should be noted that it is not entirely profitable to purchase sheets of material at retail prices. If there is a furniture factory in the city, it is best to buy sheets prepared for work with an edge there. Elements of the internal appearance can be prepared from wooden boards, the thickness of which is two centimeters, or plywood.

So, in addition to MDF, you will need to buy:

  • sheets of construction plywood (2 x 1.6 m);
  • one and a half meter long boards (2 x 10 cm);
  • beams 8 m long (5 x 5 cm);
  • boards 2 m long (4 x 10 cm).

The choice of wood species is up to you. But one condition must be met - boards, beams and plywood are purchased edged and planed.

Tools that will be required in the work

In order to avoid difficulties in the manufacture of bed elements, their adjustment and assembly of furniture, you must always have the following assistants at hand:

  • a circular saw that is attached to the table;
  • miter saw;
  • hammer and nails;
  • grinder or just a set of sandpaper;
  • construction tape measure, square, marking pencil;
  • screwdriver;
  • rubber hammer;
  • clamps;
  • goats for sawing;
  • end wrench with a set of removable heads.

Drawings of a double bed with drawers

Here are several options for drawings, according to which you can make a bed for two beds:

And in this model there is a box in the headboard in which you can store bed linen:

Another version with drawers near the floor:

Detailing the future bed

We have decided on the materials and tools, now we need to cut the elements. If there is no special equipment and sufficient free space, then you should seek help from specialists. Moreover, in the conditions of an apartment it is quite difficult to achieve rectangular sections when cutting. Since the bed is supposed to have a mattress, a base of 16 mm plywood should be made under it, the parameters of which are 1.6 by 2 meters. The rest of the elements should be made in the specified quantities according to certain sizes, according to the developed drawing. From the main parts, it is necessary to make the upper and lower base of the podium, the top for the headboard (1 pc), transverse type stiffeners (at least three), two rigid transverse ribs, four headboard stops and three racks.

Fasteners needed to assemble the bed

Simple fasteners are used to connect individual wooden elements. You can buy it in a regular store selling furniture fittings. To make the furniture durable, you should buy self-tapping screws, metal corners with holes:

Mattress selection

In most cases, a do-it-yourself double bed is much cheaper in the end. And the maximum part of the costs falls on the purchase of a mattress. To buy it, you need to clarify the dimensions of the bed, so as not to redo it or change the mattress, choosing a model that is suitable in size.

To make the crib comfortable, it is not recommended to save money on this element. The mattress should differ in quality and convenience, lie correctly on the base.

Many try to make it, like a bed, on their own. But such works cause certain difficulties, because you want to do them so that in the final version the mattress turns out to be no worse than an orthopedic mattress, which can be purchased at the store. You need to know that a self-made mattress should not be used by people under the age of twenty-five. And if a person experiences problems with the spine, he should definitely choose an orthopedic model in the store, taking into account his weight category, age and height when buying.

How to choose a mattress mount

When the design decision for the manufacture of the bed does not include a side, the mattress is likely to fall off it during sleep. On average, such a product weighs about eighty kilograms, is located on a highly sliding surface. This can lead to injury and other unfortunate consequences.
In addition, the mattress should be weathered and "breathe". And a do-it-yourself double bed, most often under its base, does not have the space necessary for ventilation.

In such cases, the mattress should be fixed to the base of the bed, but not tightly. After all, you will have to change mattress covers, replace the product with a more convenient one. In such cases, you should use Velcro for clothes. With one side it is sewn to the mattress, the other side is fixed to the bed with a stapler. To improve ventilation, holes should be drilled with a cutter.

Approximate instructions on how to make a bed

First, the frame base is prepared. This part of the work is the easiest, because appearance at this stage is not particularly important. All mistakes made in the work can then be easily hidden with decorative trim.

Now you need to determine the height for the legs (if provided for by the drawings), and add to its data the height of the panel, which is located on the sides. Four pieces are sawn off from the prepared bar, the length of which is the same. A fastener is fixed to each of them using self-tapping screws or nails.

If you already have a mattress, you need to measure its width and cut off a couple of pieces of board to fit, leaving a small margin. They are fixed in metal fasteners, which are already installed on the legs. The next step is to measure the length of the mattress. According to the data obtained, we prepare a pair of boards, the length of which is shorter than the mattress by a value equal to the width of one leg. If the mattress is quite wide, it is recommended to provide an additional support beam in the central part of the frame base. To do this, the distance from the short sidewalls is measured, a board is cut off at the required length and inserted into the central part of the base, fixed with special metal fasteners.

On a rectangular base, boards are attached transversely, the gaps between which are about five centimeters. With their help, the mattress will be held, and additional depreciation will be created. The size of the length of such boards should match the width of the future bed. They are fastened with screws.

It's time to move on to finishing work. We turn the made frame base upside down. A board intended for finishing is exposed along one edge, marked in size and cut off. Similar actions are carried out on the other side.

The boards are glued onto the frame base with joinery glue, trimmed along the edge of the legs (upper), fastened with clamps, the time required for the adhesive to dry completely is waited.

Top edge mounted. This will require a board whose width is eleven centimeters. From the workpiece, it is necessary to cut the boards along the length of the sides of the rectangular frame, mow the ends at an angle equal to forty-five degrees. Small stiffening ribs are installed on the walls, made of a bar with a section of five by five centimeters. Everything is attached with glue and nails.

If you want the legs to look aesthetically pleasing, prepare planks that will hide them. Their height should be somewhat less so that the load effect from the bed does not cause damage. You can fasten such a finish with glue or self-tapping screws. At the same time, you should try so that the attachment points are not noticeable.

It's time for the headboard. Behind each leg we attach boards 5 by 10 cm. Their height exceeds the base, but should not go beyond the upper edge. We grab the boards with clamps and drill holes, which should partially go into the legs. We insert the bolts here and screw it with a wrench, not forgetting the washers. The headboard turns out to be the simplest, in the form of a regular shield, fitted to the size you need. If you decide to make a bed with a soft headboard, you will have to work a little harder, but the task is quite doable.

It remains to seal the holes with putty, sand all the elements of the bed. Their surface should be processed until it becomes perfectly smooth. Now you can treat the bed with a stain and only then with a varnish composition.

Benefits of a homemade bed

The product is environmentally friendly. After all, materials of natural origin are used in the work. The bed is durable, can be used for a long time, withstanding significant loads. It is possible to develop design solutions of various forms, decorate at your discretion, decorate the front and back walls with wood carvings. Working independently, you can make a bed of the required size, successfully fitting it into the interior of the room. In addition, there is a good opportunity to save money.

If you want a double bed to fully meet your requirements and not cost too much, try to design it yourself.
The material for work should be selected so that it can be processed without difficulty, and is not too expensive. It will be easier to purchase ready-made sheets and cut out the necessary elements from them, following your drawings.

It is recommended to acquire all the necessary tools. They will help in the future and will always come in handy.

The mattress is best made double to extend its life, to give strength. It is best if each layer is made of materials of different density - this will give additional comfort. Try to make the top layer denser. For sheathing and padding, use natural materials that do not contain synthetic and chemical additives. Otherwise, it is likely to earn an allergenic reaction. It is best if the mattress is purchased in a store.

If such work has never been done, then the double bed is best placed on a podium made of laminated chipboard. It is not difficult to make it, any novice master will cope with the work. You should not rack your brains over the arrangement of retractable elements and lifting parts - free space is already provided in the podium.

It should be remembered that the design of the bed should successfully harmonize with the room, be combined with other furniture.

Sleep is the main type of rest for the body. And to make it healthy and of high quality, you should sleep on a comfortable bed. And if it is also made by hand, the rest will seem doubly pleasant. Dare, and everything will work out for you!

The cost of furniture in stores is constantly growing and it is often impossible to get a dream bed. And if you can't buy it, you can make it. With modern materials and tools, a do-it-yourself wooden bed is an opportunity to get high-quality and inexpensive furniture. Who knows, what if after a homemade bed you want to do something else, and then the hobby can turn into a profitable business for the production of exclusive handmade furniture. Let's see how to make a bed out of wood, what you need for this, and what can come of it.

What you need to know

Do-it-yourself wooden beds are often made due to the impossibility of using standard solutions. It happens that there is a mattress, but standard beds from furniture factories are not suitable. Then they begin to look at the drawings on the Internet, look for diagrams, select materials.

A single or double bed is a design in a wide size range. If you make this furniture yourself, you should choose a sample that exactly fits your needs. But the first step is to define the parameters.

To determine the width, you need to lie on your back, close your fingers and spread your elbows in different directions. Then they measure the distance from the elbows and add another 10-15 cm on each side - this will be a comfort zone.

Length is the height of the tallest person. You need to add 30-40 cm to your height. As for the height, low models are in fashion today - the height is made no more than 50 cm.

It is necessary to take into account the weight - for a single bed, this is the mass of the user, for two, the mass of two people is taken into account. Another 15% must be added to the mass. The weight of the load will help determine what materials to purchase to make a wooden bed with your own hands.

Features of the selection of materials

A wooden beam is chosen for the bed frame - any other options are not suitable here. Metal can also be used, but you need a welding machine and skills to work with it. A wooden bed is much simpler in manufacturing technology, wood is easier to process. And wood is much more spectacular than metal in appearance - take a look at a sample of a bed made of solid wood (photo below).

Backs and sides are easier and more affordable to make from chipboard or MDF. Adhesives are often used for assembly - when working with MDF, the most common PVA glue or "Joiner" is suitable - it is completely similar to PVA in properties.

Making construction parts from MDF with your own hands will cost much more. And from this material it is difficult to make a carved back.

The bottom for the bed is better to make rack - it is much better than plywood. You can make rails yourself. But if you need the bed to have orthopedic properties, then it is recommended to use ready-made slats. These parts are glued from wood in several layers, and their shape is slightly convex.

Fasteners

To make a wooden bed with your own hands, one way or another, you will have to fasten various parts together. Depending on the type of construction, various fasteners may be needed. The most commonly used phosphated screws. They have a rougher surface, due to which their setting with glue will be better. The diameter of such a self-tapping screw is 5-6 mm. The length is selected according to the sum of the thicknesses of the parts to be joined, while 10 mm is subtracted from this figure.

You may also need metal corners. It is desirable that these parts have a rounded wide stiffener. There should be no burrs, spots, ripples on the surface and edges of the corners - all these are signs that the metal will be pulled.

To get more reliable fasteners, it is imperative to use a clamp - this will help ensure the tight connection of the two parts. Among the advantages of the process of making a bed from solid wood with your own hands at home, there are no time limits, which makes it possible to use glue and self-tapping screws together with a clamp, thereby ensuring high bond strength. Fasteners made in this way are reliable.

Double bed

A homemade bed or factory bed is a frame consisting of two headboards, a headboard and a footboard. The scheme provides for sidewalls - kings. Inside the bed consists of a bar frame - this is one solid piece with backs and drawers.

The double model is additionally equipped with longitudinal elements to increase rigidity - these are the so-called spars. The frame is then covered with flooring - you can use plywood or boards. In the flooring, slots should be taken into account for ventilation of the mattress.

So. How to make a wooden bed with your own hands? If you follow the technology, then at home you can build a comfortable bed.

Nagels and corners

Among the most important parts for fastening the structure, metal corners are distinguished. With their help, you can fasten the bars. Connect the elements in these places and by means of dowels. These are wooden nails. In the case of pins it is necessary that the holes under them match very exactly.

Back

The back can be any. The upper part of it too, depending on the idea and taste. The transverse part is a beam measuring 50 × 50, fixed with glue and self-tapping screws. For MDF, PVA is used, and for laminated chipboard "Moment". In the center, cutouts are made for the spars - the dimensions of the cutout are depth - 25 mm, width - 40 mm. The distance between the cutouts is 50 or 40 mm.

The wood (back) should be between 24 mm and 40 mm thick. If MDF or laminate is used, then choose a smaller value, if the back is homemade from a set of planed boards, then a larger one.

If you look at the figure below, then the length of the beam (A) directly depends on the size and method of laying the mattress. If it is laid in a lodgment, then the length of the timber must be made wider than the mattress by 6-10 mm. If the mattress will be laid on a sunbed, then the width of the beam is the width of the mattress minus two thicknesses of the tsarg board and minus 10 mm.

The total width of the backrest (B) should be equal to at least the width of the mattress, plus double the thickness of the tsarg is added to this. Another option is the width of the mattress with an additional 10 cm. If the footboard is too wide, this will significantly impair the comfort of the furniture. Carving is suitable as a decorative finish on the back.

Tsargi

The drawer is a T-shaped beam made of fifty-fifty timber and a wooden board of 40 or slightly less mm. Assembly is done with glue and screws. As for the length, both the timber and the board should be the same length. You can make a drawer board with your own hands; an edged board with a width of 150-200 mm is perfect. It should be pretreated with stains and paints.

To save money, the legs can be made according to the tsarg principle. In this case, it is better to trim the legs somehow. These did will be noticeable immediately. The leg of the bed should be both for the sake of the overall design and for the convenience of cleaning.

Assembly

If you look at the photos on the bed with your own hands, then they do not differ from the store ones and in some ways even better. But a lot depends on the quality of the assembly - you need not just to build a structure, but to achieve the ideal. This is an instruction on how to make a bed yourself:

1. Let the bed with your own hands made of wood already with legs. The backs are installed vertically and supported by drawers or other fixtures. The drawers are superimposed and you need to accurately verify whether everything is rectangular - they measure the diagonals, check the evenness of the corners.

2. Mark points for dowels connecting the sides with the backs. Then the tsargs are removed and holes are drilled in them. The structure is assembled, the holes on the backs are selected and proceed to the complete assembly of the base - the dowels are driven into the grooves, the connection is lubricated with glue. For reliability of connection the bed is wrapped with a dense rope. It is better to put strong cardboard under the corners.

3. Then the coils of the rope are moved apart on the width of the tsargo board and pieces of wood or pipes are slipped in the middle on all sides. This is done for better rope tension and better gluing of all joints. In this form, do-it-yourself solid wood beds should stand from 2 to 4 days.

4. Then they make the flooring. It is better to fix it either with glue or nails. Two nails are needed on the edge. In the case of a slatted bottom, it is necessary to distribute special holders along the frame.

Making a wooden bed with your own hands may not be the easiest solution, but the most profitable one. At the moment, almost all such furniture products are very expensive, so it would be advisable to purchase the necessary materials and make a bed out of wood on your own. Of course, this will require tools and some skills, but the simplest model will require patience and initial skill in handling tools. In any case, almost everything that is needed to make a comfortable wooden bed with your own hands will be described below.

Before you start assembling a bed with your own hands from wood, you need to decide on its future size, location in the room and other nuances. This is necessary for the rational distribution of materials and own forces.

It is best to start with a diagram that you can draw yourself or find in furniture-making literature. In the books you can find not only photos of the final look of the furniture, but also phased design, assembly and some tips. A video can be a great help too.

Wooden beds, like any other, must have a mattress. This design element is the most important, since comfort during sleep will depend on it. If you don’t pick it up in advance, it simply won’t fit in or, on the contrary, it will “ride” in a niche. Accordingly, this will cause discomfort, and very strong.

There are two options for solving this problem: order a mattress in advance or make a bed with your own hands from wood and only then start looking for a suitable mattress. Whichever option is more convenient, that one should be chosen, but the first one is much easier, because it will save time. In any case, before you make a wooden bed with your own hands, you need to decide on the size of the mattress.

Materials and tools

After all the preparations, it is worth acquiring the following tools for work:

  • grinder or sandpaper;
  • wood saw, jigsaw or circular saw;
  • hammer with a rubber head;
  • hammer with an iron head;
  • square;
  • screwdriver or Phillips screwdriver;
  • drill;
  • tape measure, ruler, level;
  • chisel.

Materials are a little different. In order to assemble beds with your own hands, you will need a certain type of wood. The most suitable are walnut, mahogany and beech. But not everyone can afford such expensive breeds, and they will not work for beginners either, because there will be too much garbage. The most affordable option is pine.

Wooden beds with their own hands can be made from a variety of woods, but cheaper options are also suitable for the first time.

The materials required for construction are:

  • pine wood blanks;
  • screws;
  • varnish coating;
  • stain;
  • wood glue.

After all the materials and tools are collected, you can get to work.

Assembly sequence

Much depends on the work plan. Do-it-yourself drawings will have their own nuances that will have to be taken into account during work. The simplest design is a regular 4-legged frame with a niche for a mattress. Even a do-it-yourself double bed is done quite quickly if you have certain carpentry skills.
For the frame, we need several bars and boards of different sizes, namely:

  • 2 beams 100x100 mm, 2.6 m long;
  • 2 beams 50x50 mm, 2.6 m long;
  • about 12 boards 25x75 mm 2 m long;
  • 5 boards 50x150 mm, 2.6 m long.

The order of work will be as follows:

  1. A beam with a section of 100x100 is sawn into blanks for legs. 2 blanks should become the back legs of the bed, and 2 - the legs at the head. Dimensions should be compared with the drawings, but most often the legs at the head are twice as high as the back ones.
  2. In the legs, grooves are cut on both sides 50x150 mm - for the longitudinal boards of the frame and transverse (for attaching the legs).
  3. On one side of the legs, chamfers of 1 cm are removed at the ends.
  4. The next step is to assemble the frame. It is worth noting that the length of the frame should be slightly more than the length of the mattress by about 5-6 cm, and the width - by 10 cm;
  5. Boards 50x150 mm are cut into blanks. 2 for the length of the bed and 3 for the width. All received parts are polished to smoothness.

The frame will be the first to be assembled. It runs like this:

  1. The transverse sides of the bed are connected to the longitudinal boards. Everything is held together with glue and screws.
  2. A base for transverse boards is cut out of a 50x50 timber. It is fastened so that the niche for the mattress has a recess of 3 cm.
  3. Boards 25x75 mm are laid out on the base, which correspond to the internal width of the frame and are fixed with screws.
  4. The last boards are mounted at the head.

After that, the entire home-made bed is polished several times, treated with stain and varnish.
Another option on how to make a bed is presented in the video.

  1. Before you make a bed out of wood, you need to check all the wood for defects.
  2. It is necessary to acquire spare materials in case of incorrect processing.
  3. We must not forget that even if you do something according to the instructions, it may not turn out exactly what is shown. It is necessary to check the sequence of work or change the scheme of actions.

Conclusion on the topic

Details and drawings for manufacturing

Everyone wants to get the perfect bed, but this usually has a high price, therefore, not everyone can afford such a luxury. But there is always a way out. It is necessary to buy the necessary materials and study in detail the assembly of wooden furniture. Only by examining all the nuances and subtleties, you can personally assemble the bed of your dreams. First you need to delve into some details.

There are a lot of reasons for making a bed with your own hands, among them is the desire to make something different and original, or a non-standard mattress size. It should be noted that at the initial stage you need to choose the size of the desired design and decide whether it will be a single or double bed. You can also determine the width and comfort zone using the following formula: lying face up, close your fingers, fold your elbows and add 12-15 cm on both sides. A comfortable length is a person's height plus 20 cm. Do not forget about weight and it is important to consider how many people will supposedly fit on one bed.

When choosing materials, you must also take into account all these features.

The most popular material for making a frame is solid wood, because it is easy to process and looks much more luxurious than, for example, metal. The headboard is usually made of chipboard and held together with ordinary glue. For the bottom, you need to purchase slats. Of course, they can be made independently, but then the design will be devoid of orthopedic properties. Do not forget about the details that hold the materials together. The most popular are ordinary self-tapping screws about 6 mm long, which have a rough surface and instantly come into contact with the adhesive.

Metal corners - another helper in creating a bed. When buying, pay attention to their texture, it should not have chips or notches. The same applies to ordinary nails. A clamp fixture will help to tightly connect all parts and all parts. With it, you can achieve a high degree of connection and strength. A double bed, as a rule, consists of a frame, two backs, a headboard and a sidewall, inside it is a frame made of timber. If there is a desire to achieve greater rigidity, the spar will come to the rescue - the main power element.

To successfully create a quality bed, you need to follow some of the points below.

Corners and edges

Thanks to the metal corners, you can easily fasten various parts of the bars. Also no less reliable fasteners are dowels or edges, that is, wooden nails.

Back

Its design and external data as a whole depend only on personal taste and wishes. Cross beams are connected with self-tapping screws and glue. Holes are made under the power element in the middle, exactly repeating the dimensions of the spar. But the distance between them should not exceed 45 mm. The average thickness of the array, as a rule, should not exceed 50 mm. And the width of the back must necessarily be equal to the width of the mattress. Other options will only bring discomfort and inconvenience.

Tsargi

Assembly

A self-assembled bed almost does not differ from a purchased one only if it is brought to an ideal mechanical and visual condition. Below are detailed tips for making such a design:

  • We attach the back to the bed with legs and support it. We install the sides, check the diagonals, frame and corners for inconsistencies and irregularities.
  • We note the approximate location of the dowels. Then we make holes in the king. Everything is designed, the base is assembled - some parts are driven into the groove, glued together.
  • We remove the rope located on the tsarga to the side, in the middle we place a wooden beam for pulling this rope. We leave this design for 5 days.
  • We fix the flooring with glue or ordinary nails.

If you follow all the tips, you can make a bed with your own hands that is not inferior in quality to those purchased in stores. Even with minimal experience with such structures, if desired, you will get a beautiful and comfortable sleeping place.

How to update?

Currently, there is a huge variety of options for decorating a bed that will fit perfectly into any type of interior available. In order to make an apartment in this style, you need a screen. It is she who gives the room a certain grace and intimacy. If there is no screen, you can purchase any item related to the East, for example, attach a large fan to the footboard, which will not only decorate the room, but also hide some defects in old furniture.
