Wooden shutters with their own hands. Shutters in home decor: types and manufacture (35 photos) Homemade shutters on the windows of the cottage

Protecting a home or any other business has always been a major concern for owners. There are many means that are used to make your fortress inviolable: armored doors, video surveillance system, security, etc. But, ill-wishers often enter the house through windows. In this case, there are also options. It can be a lattice for windows, or shutters on metal windows.

They protect your home from intruders by preventing them from getting inside. There are several types of window shutters. Let's find out what they are, how they differ and how they are produced and installed.

Varieties of shutters

If we talk about products for windows in general, they can be divided into two types:

It is clear that metal shutters are better suited for metal windows. They are reliable, strong, durable and withstand heavy loads. The protection is just perfect. Modern protective shutters for metal windows can be divided into two types:

We invite you to take a closer look at each type.

Solid metal shutters

A simple and reliable option. The design is standard, in the form of a single-leaf or double-leaf mechanism. The structure of such shutters is as follows: at the base is a frame made of a profile pipe with a section of 25 × 40 mm, and one or two steel shutters. The sash is attached to the frame with metal hinges. Most often, finished shutters are additionally coated with enamel or primer for protection. They serve as anti-corrosion agents that extend the life of the shutters. After all, metal tends to rust in a humid environment.

Such window shutters were a great success in the "dashing" 90s. They could often be seen at dachas and houses throughout the former USSR. And in order to get inside the building, it was necessary to remove the shutters from the hinges, because they were outside the premises. But, without the "Bulgarian" it was impossible to carry out such an operation. That is why the number of penetrations into summer cottages and houses fell sharply at that time. In the summer, such shutters were opened wide open during the day, and at night they were closed using a sliding mechanism or a latch.

Shutters in the form of blinds

This option is more interesting. They compare favorably in that they have a higher degree of protection and a greater variety of design solutions. Due to the fact that such shutters can be opened, air and natural light penetrate into the room. Instead of a solid steel sheet, lamellas are used. They are made in such a way that in the closed position moisture does not get inside. But not only moisture will not be able to get into the house, but also thieves.

To the delight of consumers, lamellas of various types are made, so you can choose the right one for yourself. But, we do not recommend using those shutters that let in light when closed. They are pretty easy to crack. The set of the purchased product includes constipation and additional locks for the complete security of an apartment or house.

A clear plus and at the same time a minus of the shutters is that they do not allow the space between the panes to heat up. As a result, in summer at high temperatures the apartment will be cool, and in winter it will be even colder. But at the same time, thanks to the blinds in the summer, the room is well ventilated.

I would like to note that this type of shutters is able to withstand a fairly strong wind, protecting buildings from penetration. And due to the multi-layer anti-corrosion coating, the products will serve you for a long time. If you decide to get shutters for metal windows, then you have two ways: simple and complex. Purchase ready-made designs or make them yourself. Let's find out how this process happens.

We make metal shutters with our own hands

It is clear that the easiest and fastest option is one-piece shutters. Most often they are made from a sheet of galvanized steel. Due to its composition and coating, the sheet will be resistant to corrosion and withstand the changing environment. Yes, and it will be difficult to penetrate through such shutters.

You can contact the workshop and order products, but you can do everything yourself. You don't need much for this:

  1. Metal profile or corner.
  2. Steel sheet 2 mm or more, depending on the desire.
  3. Loops.

First, you need to find out the dimensions of the slope, window sill, diagonals and angles. Everything must be accurate. For reliability, measure several times so as not to be mistaken. In addition, you will need skills in working with a welding machine. If you do not know how to work with him, ask a friend or acquaintance. Pre-treat steel corners with an antiseptic, and adjust them to size. Carry out welding work on a flat surface, for example, on a table, pressing down the corners on 4 sides with a press. All you need to do is make a rectangular frame that fits the size of the window.

Next, you need to install and fix the steel sheet on the finished frame. Here you have two options: make single or double shutters. Single leaf shutters require two hinges on the selected side. And for double-leaf products, the sheet will have to be cut in half and secured on each side with two pairs of loops. In addition, it is important to make stiffeners that resemble a cross or rails (depending on how you will install them). These elements will make the product more durable.

We carry out the installation of sashes on the window

The good news is that the installation of shutters is simple, and it can be done quickly enough. At the same time, you do not need to have a huge construction experience, as everyone can handle it. The main thing is the instruction and strict adherence to the instructions. The method of fastening the contour to the window depends on the type of shutters. After all, you can install both metal and wooden products. There are also adherents of such material.

For example, our metal products need to be fixed on a window opening with simple bolts and nuts. To do this, pre-drill the necessary holes for the bolts. If we talk about wooden structures, then here you can get by with simple self-tapping screws. The thing is that wooden window shutters are much lighter, so you do not need to use heavy-duty bolts to fix them.

Here you will need to be careful and precise in order to fix the shutters on the window perfectly evenly, without distortions. The building level will help you with this. Thanks to him, you can outline the attachment points of the shutters and perform it correctly. If during installation you have formed voids, then it is important to seal them with mounting foam and treat them with waterproofing material. Do not put off this work for later, do it "on the spot". When you put the sashes on the hinges, pay attention to the correctness and quality of the docking. To do this, close the shutters. If you did everything right, then they will converge perfectly in the center of the structure, without overlap. The halves will connect, after which you can push the latch or close the lock.

Surely everyone has seen at least once in their lives, especially in the old village huts above the shutter windows. What are they for? What is the purpose of these simple products, which have been unjustifiably forgotten for quite a long time? What are these devices, the fashion for which, like everything traditional, is returning?

Country shutters on the windows: wooden, decorative, metal

Increasingly, shutters can be seen on modern cottage plots, dachas and other country houses. Now everyone can find something that will meet their expectations, whether it is decorative carved, Russian-style monolithic shutters, or modern roller shutter systems, not expensive and not pretentious.

Wooden Shutters - aesthetics and traditionalism

The traditional shutters that adorned almost all the huts of Russian villages, both the poor and the nobility, were mainly made of wood, they served as protection from prying eyes. Upholstered with felt or other protective material, they protected wooden windows from bad weather and cold. Some people attributed some magical meaning to them, they believed that the shutters serve as a barrier between them and the other world, protecting the house from evil spirits and the evil eye.

In addition, it is a rather convenient element that favorably decorates the house and gives it comfort. The material for wooden shutters is mainly linden, spruce or another tree growing in the area, if they were decorated with carvings, then basically a wooden canvas was used under the bottom, and decorations, which consisted most often of linden, were fixed with nails and self-tapping screws.

The canvas itself is constructed from planks of slats and lining. The resulting shield is pulled together and cut off. Loops are attached on the sides. The inner side is reinforced with wooden slats. For durability, wooden shutters are covered with several layers of varnish or paint, after sanding to remove dust and burrs.

Metal shutters - iron reliability

In order to completely secure your home from the penetration of ill-wishers, you should pay attention not only to the reliability of doors, but also windows. Metal shutters will help with this, they are almost impossible to break, unlike metal bars. Shutters can be made in round, arched and triangular shapes.

Decorative metal shutters in the country

Unusual patterns of artistic forging on metal shutters will give your home a look of classic restraint and strict sophistication. There are no locks or handles on the outside. From the outside - a dull canvas. You can only close or open them from inside the house. You should not save on fittings, locks are most often used, similar to those used in safes, they guarantee your safety.

Decorative shutters - Simple and tasteful

Such decorative shutters are a frame structure, inside which are fastened horizontal lamellas made of high-tech material that resembles wood, but does not have its shortcomings. Wood from moisture gradually deforms or cracks, this material, on the contrary, has flexibility, strength and is not affected by the environment. You can pick up absolutely any color or just make them under any kind of wood. Externally, decorative shutters resemble blinds and look quite natural.

Shutters on the windows to match the style of the house

Whatever shutters you choose, it must be borne in mind that this directly affects the architectural appearance of the house. It is not desirable that the frame of the windows is knocked out of the general style. If you correctly and thoughtfully choose the material, decorate it, you can favorably emphasize the individuality of the building, and give your home a unique look and expressiveness, as well as add energy saving and comfort.

Having come up with a proverb about a fortified house, the British did not know about the Russian method of protecting windows. Powerful oak shutters, blocking the access of dashing people to the master's good, turn the log house into an impregnable bastion. The love of Russians for beauty and harmony is reflected in this element of home protection. Carved shutters have become the visiting card of the masterful owner, completing the exterior decor of the hut.

Nowadays, window shutters for summer cottages are experiencing a rebirth.

Metal-plastic roller shutters with an electric drive are not affordable for everyone. But every person who knows how to hold the simplest tool in his hands can put steel or wooden sheets on the windows.

In our review, we will get acquainted with the types, device and main functions of the shutters, as well as give practical advice on how to make them yourself.

There are several designs of window shutters:

  • Single leaf;
  • double leaf;
  • folding
  • Combined (shutters-blinds);
  • Roller shutters (roller);
  • Internal shutters.

Single leaf shutters are placed on small windows. On the one hand, their canvas has a hinged mount. Closing is carried out using a lock or locking latch installed on the inside of the wings.

Single wooden shutters

Double-leaf metal and wooden shutters on windows are the most common. Due to the symmetrical arrangement of the canvases, these designs look better than single-leaf ones. They are locked from the inside (on hinged windows) or from the outside with a lock (on blind windows).

Double-leaf wooden shutters - "classics of the genre"

Folding structures are used to protect large window openings. They consist of several wings that turn on hinges when closing and opening.

Folding shutters - an option for a large window

Deaf shutters protect windows well, but do not let sunlight into the room. Therefore, in recent years, combined designs (blinds) have become popular. The swivel mechanism of the slats allows you to adjust the light flux without opening the sash. This solves two problems: natural lighting of the premises without compromising the protective function of the shutters.

Roller blinds with slats

More often than adjustable designs on the market there are options whose plates do not rotate.

Shutters with non-rotating blinds

Roll-type structures (roller shutters) came to us from Europe. Today they are extremely popular not only among the owners of shops, warehouses and offices, but also among summer residents.

Compactness, reliability and aesthetics. These three factors draw the attention of homeowners to roller shutters. A significant disadvantage is the price of these structures. It is higher than the swing ones.

Relatively recently, internal shutters appeared on the market. They are used to decorate the interior and control lighting. The level of protection of the premises against penetration of these structures is minimal.

Let's say a few words about the main functions of shutters. There are several of them:

  • Protective;
  • decorative;
  • Energy saving.

In the first place is the task of protecting the building from intruders. In this respect shutters are more reliable than bars. When installed correctly and using quality materials, cracking them is much more difficult than cutting down the anchor pins of a window grille. In addition, the shutters completely cover the view of the room. The lattice, on the contrary, does not interfere with viewing the contents of the country house. It is also important that the shutters protect the window pane from direct impact with a hard object. The efficiency of the lattice in this respect is much lower.

The decorative functions of the shutters cannot be questioned. They are especially pronounced in wooden structures, decorated with intricate carvings and figured ornaments.

Wooden carved shutters will not leave anyone indifferent

Not every person is skilled in woodcarving. But any home craftsman can make beautiful doors using a regular board and a jigsaw.

A minimum of materials, a little imagination, diligence and original stakes are ready

Metal shutters on the windows are not as expressive as wooden ones. However, when using forged decor, they look beautiful and aesthetically pleasing.

Energy-saving features also cannot be ignored. It is no secret that the main heat leakage from the premises occurs through windows and doors. Closed shutters significantly reduce heat loss. The level of energy saving of these structures can be increased by insulating the doors with mineral wool or foam.

Window shutters are made of two materials - wood and metal.

Nowadays, decorative shutters are made not only from metal and wood, but also from metal-plastic. This material reigns supreme in the field of door and window systems.

Shutters-blinds made of metal-plastic - reliable, beautiful, durable

Unlike wood, metal-plastic is resistant to atmospheric influences. At the same time, we are practically indistinguishable from it in appearance.

How to make window shutters with your own hands?

Simple protective shutters can be made on your own. We will consider two options for home-made structures: wooden and metal.

For the assembly of wooden doors, a tongue-and-groove floorboard is optimally suited. Using it, you can do without the complex docking of the elements of the shield, the work with which requires carpentry skills.

The first step is to measure the window opening and transfer its dimensions to the sketch. Immediately you need to decide on the design of the hinges of the valves.

There are two types of articulated hinge:

  • The swivel assembly is hammered at one end into a hole drilled in a concrete or brick wall;
  • The hinge is attached to the window frame.

1. Regular hanging loop; 2. Adjustable hinge base (used to fasten the shutter to a brick or concrete wall); 3. Hinged part of the loop.

Having chosen a suitable hinge design, you can begin to assemble the sashes. Having cut off the floorboard according to the dimensions of the sketch, its parts are connected according to the “thorn-groove” scheme. In order for the boards not to disperse, two transverse fixing pads and one inclined - jib are screwed on top of the assembled sash with screws.

Two bolts and lugs are attached to the overlays with screws, fixing the locking crossbar.

Loops are placed on the back of the flaps. Having exposed the sashes in the opening, the hinges are screwed to the frame with screws. Platbands on the window are best placed above and below. When installed to the right and left of the frame, they will interfere with the opening of the sashes.

And now let's see how you can make shutters on the windows with your own hands using metal. The easiest option is to make a frame of wings from a profile pipe 10x20 or 20x40 mm and fasten sheet steel 1.0-1.5 mm thick to it.

The supporting frame on which the shutters will hang can be made from a 50x50 mm corner. It is more convenient to attach it to the opening with dowels.

After measuring the window opening and preparing a sketch, you can start cutting the profile pipe for the manufacture of shutter frames. Pipe sections are laid on a workbench, fixed to it with clamps and butt-joined using electric welding. The next step is to cut the sheet metal and weld it onto the frames. To protect the junction of the doors, a steel strip (flashing) must be welded onto one of them.

Having made both wings, you can begin to manufacture the carrier frame from the corner and install the hinges. Having attached the leaf blades to the frame, a steel bolt and an eyelet are welded onto the middle edge of the frame, into which the bolt will enter.

After making sure that the sashes rotate freely and without distortions on the frame and close tightly, you can put the shutters in the opening. To do this, in the side corners of the frame, you need to drill two holes for mounting dowels, and drill holes in the wall for installing plastic sleeves.

Owners of suburban real estate are increasingly installing shutters on their windows. In the minds of most people, shutters are the decoration of old village houses. However, their modern designs help make houses special, unlike others. The main thing in this case is the combination of shutters with the overall design concept of the house. In this article, you will learn how to make do-it-yourself window shutters from wood and metal.

Initially, shutters were invented in order to protect the premises in houses from the summer heat and the scorching sun, as well as from winter winds and snow. Time passed and the purpose of the shutters changed, along with how the society of people changed. Shutters began to perform, among other things, a decorative function. For aesthetics, they began to decorate with carvings, patterns, painted in various colors.

In the past, the type of shutters denoted the social status of a person in society.

With all this, over the years the shutters have not lost their functional purpose. These structures are manufactured today using modern technologies, which only contributes to the improvement of their characteristics. They serve as an excellent sunscreen, a blocker for heat and cold, while differing in a long service life.

In addition, shutters are used today as an alternative to blinds, bars and curtains. Thus, you can protect yourself from the views of people passing by the house and annoying neighbors. As a rule, shutters are made from natural materials, so they are environmentally friendly.

Depending on the shape of the shutters, different images can be demonstrated. The mechanism of operation of these structures depends on their shape. There are several shutters that differ in shape:

  • Single-leaf designs are installed on windows of small sizes from the side from which it is more convenient to open / close them. As for the mechanism for opening / closing the shutters, it does not differ from that used for the door.
  • Classic double shutters are most often used in villages built in the last century. They are symmetrical. Such shutters are often used today, they are installed on country windows. So that the wings do not flutter in the wind, hooks are placed along the edges, and loops to them are placed on the walls.
  • Folding shutters allow you to close the window by half or a third. Depending on the size of the window, such a design may consist of one or two sashes.
  • Shutters-blinds allow you to change the degree of opening / closing of the window due to a special mechanism that allows you to raise / lower the slats for a sufficient amount of light to enter the house.
  • Internal shutters protect against unauthorized entry into the house. On the other hand, only homeowners can enjoy such decorative elements. The convenience also lies in the fact that in winter you can open the shutters without letting cold air into the house, because in this case there is no need to open windows.

Shutters are made from several types of materials. Among them:

  • Tree.
  • Plastic.
  • Metal.
  • Paper.

I would like to note right away that paper shutters have partly lost their functional purpose, with the exception of sun protection properties. Generally speaking, they are more decorative in nature and, due to the fragility of the paper, can be installed exclusively on the inside of the windows.

Wooden shutters are the most common among consumers. It is, one might say, a classic of the genre. They are both decorative and functional.

Metal shutters are the heaviest. Their main purpose is to protect the house from intruders. Although the use of modern technology has made it possible to make them more attractive. This contributes to the harmonious design of the exterior of the house.

Plastic shutters are not as reliable as their metal counterparts. However, their main advantage is their affordable price. The ability to imitate different textures makes them the most popular in the market.

Wooden shutters are of two types:

  • on screeds and hairpins;
  • paneled.

Which shutters to make depends on what you want to see in the end.

To work with wooden elements and fasteners, you will need:

  1. Axe.
  2. Roulette.
  3. Saw.
  4. Electric drill.
  5. Building level.
  6. Electric planer.
  7. Screwdrivers.

From the materials you need to purchase:

  1. Wooden elements for the construction of the shield / shields.
  2. Connecting elements (self-tapping screws).
  3. Fasteners (door and window hinges).

If your goal is to save as much as possible, then making simple wooden shutters is the most justified solution in this matter. Although plastic may be cheaper, it will require more financial investment to process it.

The frame is best made from 40 × 60 mm bars. This frame is very simple and consists of only two crossbars fixed along the width of the window opening.

Important points to consider when making shutters:

  • It is necessary to measure window openings along the flashings and slopes. After that, you should draw a drawing / diagram of the window to scale. Then you can start cutting boards.
  • The easiest option is to make a locking tongue and groove connection. The technical characteristics of such a canvas will be very high. For these purposes, you can use factory boards with spikes and grooves located on opposite sides.
  • At the next stage, the leaf blades should be strengthened with ties and jibs. They must be applied across the surface. Such shutters will have exclusively protective functions. If you want to make attractive products, then this option is hardly suitable for you.
  • To improve the decorative properties of the sashes, they should be connected in a hidden way using threaded studs. To do this, small holes must be drilled at the ends of the boards. Then they must be drilled to the radius of the connecting studs, on which the boards are strung, and then tightened with bolts. To prevent cracks from forming on individual plank elements, their end parts should be smeared with wood glue.

Technological sequence of manufacturing:

  1. The blanks of the board must be dried, impregnated with antiseptic and water-repellent agents. For example, drying oil. It must be preheated and smeared with blanks until the wood absorbs the composition.
  2. After cutting the shields, their end sides should be impregnated with drying oil.
  3. The boards are connected with steel/wood rails. To install them, you need to pre-drill holes. To hide the fasteners, you can use wooden plugs or simply paint over it with paint.
  4. Treat all wooden elements with sandpaper. Then open them with varnish / paint. Now you can assemble the blanks into shutters. Paint or prime metal structural elements.
  5. Lay the sashes on a flat surface to check how evenly they are located to each other. Hook loops can be secured with screws. Install canopies on the sashes, it is important to maintain symmetry here.
  6. Attach the closed sashes to the window. Fix the structure on the level.

A panel is a thin board installed in a frame frame. You can make it yourself or order in the workshop. There are decorative and smooth elements.

  • For tightening, strapping bars are used, having a thickness of 5 mm more than the thickness of the panels.
  • Before installing the panels in the frame, they should be smeared with glue. Then put on a flat surface, fix and leave until the adhesive is completely dry.
  • Hollow out the seating slots for the loops with a chisel. They should be made on the ends of the shutters and window frames.
  • Attach locking elements and shutters to the slopes. Before installing the sashes, align them in level. Fitted the design? In this case, fix it with screws.
  • Soak the wooden elements of the structure with drying oil, and after it dries, paint / varnish the shutters.

Metal shutters are the best solution to protect your home from unauthorized entry. A modern approach to the production of shutters allows them to be manufactured in different designs with high aesthetic characteristics.

Regardless of the design of the shutters, they must be installed so that moisture does not penetrate the window frame and walls. Otherwise, fungus and mold will form on them, which have a destructive effect on materials.

This problem is solved by sealing the seams and installing drains that divert excess moisture away from the windows.

Modern iron shutters are of two types:

  • shutters-blinds;
  • solid/deaf structures.

To improve the appearance and increase the anti-corrosion solid metal shutters, primer and paint coatings can be applied. In addition, the surface can be decorated with forged elements.

Shutters-blinds according to the manufacturing principle are similar to solid structures, the only thing is that lamellas are used instead of solid sheets of metal. They form a translucent structure, similar to blinds. The advantage of lamellas is that even with closed shutters, sunlight and fresh air will penetrate into the house.

On the outside there is a smooth blank surface of the shutters. All locking mechanisms are installed on the inside of the house. They are similar to the locks that are used in the construction of safes.

The locks are protected against accidental closing of the doors. If there is such a need, then you can install additional mechanisms.

If you are not planning a complex metal decoration, then you can make steel shutters yourself. Before you make them, you need to purchase the following blanks:

  1. Galvanized sheet with a thickness of 2-3 mm.
  2. Corner for making loot 50×50 mm.
  3. Channel / angle / square pipe (to strengthen the shutters).

Before starting work, take the necessary measurements - the size of the vertical and horizontal windowsill, slopes, the size of the angles and the length of the diagonals.

Weld the frame from a 50 × 50 mm corner. Make a cut of the steel sheet in accordance with the measurements. Then attach it to the frame. Fastening can be done with metal screws or a welding seam.

If you decide to use self-tapping screws, then the fastening step should not be more than 50 mm.

After fastening the frame to the metal sheet, seal the joints with a sealant that is resistant to low / high temperatures and moisture. In addition, it is important to install stiffeners on the sashes. They can be fixed horizontally or diagonally (you end up with a cross shape).

On the vertical parts of the frames, drill holes for the installation of hinges. You can fix them on the frame with self-tapping screws or bolts. The sashes are attached to the slopes with anchors. Aluminum shutters can be used to reduce the overall weight of the product.

In this article, you learned how to make wooden / metal shutters yourself, which will allow you to save on buying a finished structure. A little time and imagination, and your house will stand out from the rest. Do you have experience making shutters? Would you like to give additional recommendations to readers? Shutters on the windows in a country house perform several useful functions. Decorative beautiful shutters give the house an original flavor and perform protective functions. Windows are one of the most vulnerable places in a house. The presence of shutters on them significantly complicates the task of illegal entry into the premises. Shutters made of boards or metal are equipped not only with external padlocks or mortise locks, but also with internal pin locking elements.

By installing shutters on the windows, the room will receive additional protection from the cold and atmospheric influences. Shutters prevent snow from sticking, flooding during rain and drafts. In addition to protection from the cold and protective functions - shutters on the windows can be a wonderful decorative element and home decoration. How to make window shutters, and their advantages, we will consider in this article.

Wooden shutters on windows

Wooden shutters on the windows, there are internal and external. By structure - panel or panel, single-leaf or double-leaf. To make wooden shutters with your own hands is within the power of any owner.

Materials and tools for the manufacture of wooden shutters

In order to make shutters for wooden windows, you will need boards with a thickness of 20 mm and a width of 10 to 20 cm. It is better to choose massive veneered boards from hardwood, but you can also purchase a smooth fugue. You will need a woodworking tool: a hacksaw, a planer, a drill, a chisel, a screwdriver, etc.

  1. Measuring tool - carpenter's corner, tape measure and level.
  2. Consumables: self-tapping screws, hinges, metal corners and locking elements (locks, bolts, studs, etc.).
  3. Drying oil, paint, brushes and antiseptic, for the final phase of work.

Manufacturing process of wooden shutters

Simple shutters with ties and studs

  1. First of all, it is necessary to measure the window opening along the slopes and platbands. Make a plan diagram and cut the boards.
  2. For the end connection of the prepared boards for the shutters, rallying is performed. A smooth fugue is usually put on glue and additionally reinforced with a rail that covers the gap.
  3. The tongue-and-groove locking of the shutter leaf is much better and simpler. To do this, a groove is selected in the end part of the board, and a spike on the opposite side. You can buy a ready-made grooved board. These boards are used for flooring.
  4. A cohesive canvas, reinforced with transverse overhead ties and jibs. Such elements are suitable for simple, utilitarian shutters. For hidden rallying of shields, threaded studs are also used.
  5. In this case, holes are drilled in the end sides of the boards with a thin drill. Then they are drilled to the diameter of the threaded stud. The boards are strung on long studs and pulled together with bolts. The ends of the boards are thickly smeared with wood glue to seal possible gaps.

Paneled wooden shutters

  1. A panel is a thin board inserted into a frame frame. These shutters combine beauty and strength. Ready-made panels and profiled timber with a grooved groove can be purchased at a hardware store or ordered from a carpentry workshop.
  2. Panels can be smooth or decorated, with tongue-and-groove timber layouts or with selected moldings, figured, surfacing, and with a frame decorated with carvings.
  3. Strapping bars - acting as a tightening frame, are selected 5 mm thicker than the panels. The planed and polished bars are connected by single or double spikes with lugs.
  4. Panels smeared with glue are inserted into the assembled frame, and the shutters of the shutters are fixed on the plane until completely dry.
  5. With a chisel on the sidewalls of wooden shutters and on the window trims, landing nests for hinges are hollowed out. Locking elements are cut and mounted and shutters can be mounted on slopes. The sashes of the shutters, set according to the level, sit in hinged nests and are fastened with screws.
  6. The final stage is the coating of wooden shutters with an impregnation that prevents decay, drying oil and, after drying, painting or varnishing. Various options depicting shutters on the windows are in the photo.

Metal window shutters

  1. For those who are more concerned about security, it would be logical to install metal shutters on the windows. Such steel doors can be ordered from an armored door workshop. Depending on the complexity, area and thickness of steel for window shutters, the price ranges from 200 to 250 USD.
  2. It is possible to make window shutters on your own, but if you are not a professional in cold metal working and not a welder, then you will get simple and durable metal shutters. It is better to order metal decorative shutters on windows decorated with forged elements in the workshop.

The procedure for the manufacture of metal shutters

  1. In order to make iron shutters for windows, you will need a corner of 50, it will go to the shutters, a steel sheet to fit the window opening with a thickness of 2 - 3 mm. To reinforce the canvas and give stiffeners, you can use a channel, a square pipe or a corner. The main requirement is that the stiffener should not protrude beyond the contours of the shutters.
  2. An important point in the manufacture of metal shutters for windows is the correct measurements of the window opening. Each vertical and horizontal side of the slopes and the window sill is measured separately, the angles and diagonals are verified.
  3. A contour frame for shutters is welded from a metal corner. The cut-to-size steel sheet is attached to the frame. Usually this is done by welding, and the weld passes from the wrong side, but in the absence of a welding machine, the connection can be made using self-tapping screws for metal. The step for them should be no more than 5 cm, and the junctions are sealed with silicone waterproof and frost-resistant sealant.
  4. Depending on the configuration of the window opening and shutters, stiffeners are made. Both horizontal and cruciform metal profile ribs are provided.
  5. Holes for hinges are drilled on the vertical planes of the shutter frame. The hinges on the metal shutters are fixed with self-tapping screws or small bolts. On the side of the slopes, fastening is done with anchors.

If desired or technically necessary, you can install shutters on the internal windows. They are made in exactly the same way as the external ones, only installed from the inside.
