SVP - tile leveling system. Wedges for laying tiles: SVP and DLS clips Installation of SVP

When laying tiles, you have to tinker with the correct formation of seams. It is to facilitate this procedure that the tile leveling system was developed. It is believed that it helps to reduce the time of work and create a beautiful, even surface. Of course, there are also opponents who consider this product meaningless. Therefore, it is worth carefully considering all the features of this device.

Due to the fact that there are different opinions expressed by professional masters, it is necessary to pay attention to the pros and cons of SVP (tile leveling system).

Advantages:

  1. The device allows you to get a flat floor. This is achieved by setting the optimal coverage level. It makes it possible to improve not only the appearance, but also significantly extend the service life of the facing product.
  2. The seams are exactly the same. The device allows you to completely abandon the plastic crosses that were previously used.
  3. The tile adhesive is evenly distributed. This is especially important when the base has some defects. It turns out that the voids are completely filled with glue. Manually this process is quite difficult to carry out.
  4. SVP protects tiles from subsidence. This happens even after the final drying has come.
  5. The device securely fixes each element. And this means that during drying, the tile will be exclusively in the desired position. There will be no fluctuations or displacement.

The system for leveling tiles securely fixes each element of the product

But there are also disadvantages:

  • You have to spend time to properly install the wedges and remove them.
  • Cleaning the seams becomes much more difficult.
  • There is an additional expense item.
  • Large tiles must be laid on a double layer of adhesive. Otherwise, the system cannot cope with the functions assigned to it.

On a note! When purchasing SVP, pay attention to the quality of the material. After all, there are many fakes that fail during operation.

Components of SVP

Different types of systems for leveling

The device for laying tiles is divided into two main types:

  1. Economic option. It is used on a surface that does not have significant irregularities. The product consists of a base, which is clamped with a special wedge. This allows the tiles to be fixed, which leads to the alignment of the joints and the correction of minor irregularities.
  2. A more expensive product with increased reliability and functionality. The device has a curved shape, which at first can be misleading. But it is precisely due to this feature that the desired effect is achieved. The system first displaces the tile, and then it self-levels. It adapts to the required parameters, setting a single surface plane and evenly distributing glue.

Different types of tile leveling systems

Do not think that this device allows you to do all the work of leveling the surface and more accurate distribution of mastic. It is only an additional tool that allows you to correct the shortcomings that have arisen during the workflow.

On a note! In order for the SVP tile leveling system to give the desired result, it is necessary to use only high-quality tile material. It must be perfectly flat.

Application of SVP

Working with this device is easy and fast. Of course, you need to practice a little and understand the principle of operation. The technology is:

  • Glue is applied to the prepared surface with a trowel. It is distributed over a given area with a notched trowel.
  • Now you need to lay the first element. It is important to understand that it needs to be aligned in order to provide a basis for other details.
  • Further, the steps depend on which tile alignment system will be used. There are two main options:
    • installation of clamps along the edges of the tile, which means that there are two fixtures on each side (at a distance of five centimeters from the edge);
    • installation of clamps at the crosshairs of adjacent elements (exactly in the center of the corners of four products).
  • In any case, the following is done:
    • at the clamp, the thrust platform is bent;
    • it is brought under the bottom of the tile so that a tail with a window protrudes from the seam;
    • a wedge will be inserted into this connector.

Laying tiles with SVP
  • The wedge is inserted until it is fully fixed. Doing it by hand is inconvenient. It is better to use special pliers that are adjustable (depending on the type of ceramics).
  • Care must be taken to ensure that the adhesive does not fall on the installed fixture. The place of fixation must be completely clean.
  • Excess mastic is immediately removed.
  • So the entire surface is laid in order. SVP remains until the moment when the tile adhesive is completely dry.
  • It's time to remove it. The wedges are pulled out of the connector, they can be used further, and the remaining clip is knocked down breaking off. That is, its lower part remains under the coating. This item is a consumable item.

Naturally, the installation is constantly checked for level, each element is set clearly in its place.

When using SVP, laying tiles must be controlled by the building level

Making a homemade version

It is possible to make a do-it-yourself tile leveling system. Of course, it will be significantly different from the one bought in the store. But this will save the family budget. To create the necessary fixture you will need:

  1. Aluminum wire (1.7 mm thick) - will act as part of the clamp.

On a note! Copper materials are not used - they are more elastic, which makes them difficult to use.

  2. Sliced pieces of hardboard (hardboard) - are inserted instead of wedges, for expansion and fixation.
  3. Plates from a metal profile (mounting tape) - to create an emphasis.

Materials for self-manufacturing of SVP

The manufacturing process is as follows:

  • The wire is bent so that an elongated rectangle is obtained.
  • Install the stop plate - the place under it is slightly flattened.
  • The part of the wire that will be below the plane of the tile is slightly bitten on both sides. This is done in order to make it easier to break it off.
  • By inserting such a device into the inter-seam space, the upper edge is twisted. Pieces of fiberboard are placed under it in advance. Fixation occurs.

Homemade tile leveling system option

Of course, a home-made device is noticeably inferior to a special device. But it allows you to work much better and faster. Naturally, everyone chooses their own option based on the possibilities, as well as the specific situation.

When performing repair work of any complexity, you want impeccable quality, accuracy and durability. Technological advances are advancing and the new Tile Leveling System (SVP) is designed to make laying work easier.

The innovative SVP, which came from abroad, quickly took root. According to the principle of operation, they distinguish directly SVP and functioning in a similar way, but having design differences, DLS.

SVP - tile leveling system

It should be noted that the new leveling system is not autonomous and does not lay tiles on its own. It must be regarded as a very suitable, greatly facilitating the work of an additional device that eliminates the fitting of products "by eye" and carries out the lining of both vertical and horizontal planes as accurately and efficiently as possible.

SVP contains only 2 useful components, made from strong, shock-resistant plastic (some reusable components of expensive systems are made from a durable alloy) - clip and clothespin. The number of wedges and clamps depends on the laying area and the size of the tile fragments. The cost of such a system is quite small, and the result of its use is surprising: practically no, even small differences between the tiles will appear with the correct use of the system. As auxiliary equipment, you will need special wedge tongs, similar to thin curved tongs.

Using wedges for laying

In addition to reusability, the device also has a multitasking function.. The cost of wedges is low, but the performance is impressive. With this device, extremely parallel tile lines are achieved, which means that smooth and neat seams are obtained. The leveler is applied on the most non-standard sites. The device makes it possible to choose the desired thickness and acquire a uniform seam of the upper part of the mosaic tile.

Among the positive aspects of wedges for laying ceramics worth noting the low cost and effectiveness. The wedges are represented by universal assistants during stone cladding. In cases where there is a significant difference in the size of the tiles, wedges are inserted where the seam should be to create an even line. There are many moments when plastic products help out in functional terms. But like every system, it has its pros and cons.

How the system works

The basic principles of working with the system are as follows: between adjacent tiles, 2-3 (depending on the size of the tile) clamps are placed with a straight base in the lower section of the tile, in each of which a parallel tightening wedge is fixed, tightly pressing the tile planes. The laying surface must be prepared and leveled in advance, and the load provided by the attracted grip eliminates the settling and shrinkage of the surfaces when the adhesive dries, displacement relative to each other or slipping of the tiles.

Clamps are placed in a certain way: a suitable option for their position is considered to be installation at one main point in each section of the tile with an indent from the corner by 5–6 cm. If the length of the side of the tile fragment is more than one meter, it is recommended to install a control clip in the central part of the tile edge.

A day or two after the glue has dried, the clamps and wedges are removed by directed blows of a special rubber hammer along the seam or by another convenient method. The graceful leg of the clamp breaks, and the base remains under the laid tiles, reusable wedges are used for further work (in high-quality systems, the use of tightening components can be up to 50 times).

SVP is actually a multi-purpose system that is suitable for both floors and walls - while working with tiles with a thickness of 6-12 mm.

Sometimes craftsmen have problems about the differences and advantages of using alignment systems - DLS and SVP. They are as follows:

In addition to the obvious ease of use in laying the system and the simplicity of its installation, it is necessary to designate pros and cons of SVP and DLS:

As it turned out, the alignment system can be very different, and the recommendations of highly qualified specialists regarding which system is more correct to use in work are as follows:

Similar occupation will require vigilance and accuracy in carrying out operations. Conventionally, the procedure is divided into 2 stages - preparation and laying itself.

Preparation for work begins with the removal of the previous coating, its alignment and then ends with the priming stage. Further, you can switch directly to styling. If necessary, it is allowed to lay an infrared or water heated floor under the tiles.

You also need to buy certain devices, such as:

  1. Glue;
  2. Special marker and others required in the work.

There are several alternatives for laying tiles: seam in seam, diagonal, bandaging. To achieve the desired result, you can only align the plane well. In the second step, the highlight is the location of the plank on the wall with fasteners. This will help lay out the main tile row.

Before sticking the first tile, a calculation is performed and a corner is fixed, leading to laying in the future. After that, the angle from which the facing will begin is determined. The tile must be pressed evenly over the entire plane, all released excess glue must be removed. At the second corner, it may be necessary to cut the tiles. After the glue has completely dried, all excess elements are removed, and the seams are overwritten.

With the improvement of technologies for the production of facing materials, the quality of the produced ceramic tiles also increases. At the same time, high-quality floor and wall cladding enhances the impression of spectacular ceramics, so the requirements for finishing are constantly increasing, which is the reason for the emergence of fundamentally new and improved tools, devices and devices used in facing work. One of these devices is a set of SVP clips, designed to simplify the laying of ceramics when facing bases, improve the quality of work and reduce time costs.

The market for large-format porcelain tiles in Russia is quite young. And as a recommendation, we suggest that all construction and installation organizations use modern and very convenient related products to improve the quality of installation. We are talking about the Tiling Alignment System when laying it. SVP is most relevant for large-format porcelain tiles (600x600, 1200x600, 1200x1200).

Professional tilers are somewhat wary of the process of laying large-format tiles, or tiles of different thicknesses (for example, porcelain stoneware 600x600 with a thickness of 10 mm and 1200x600 with a thickness of 11 mm). But such a simple and at the same time effective system will greatly facilitate the work with even laying of large-format tiles, which allows you to get a perfectly flat ceramic surface.

It consists of only two elements: a WEDGE and a CLAMP. Moreover, the WEDGE is used repeatedly (50 or more times).

SVP (Tile Leveling System) allows avoiding tile drops in the plane at the joints (seams) during laying and prevents tiles from “sagging” during the drying of the adhesive composition due to the tight pressing of adjacent tiles between them. Significantly reduces the time spent on laying tiles.

The basic principle of use is to install the SVP on each side of the tile with two points, retreating from the corner of 5 cm. If the side of the tile is more than a meter, an additional SVP point is installed in the center. At the same time, the technology of laying tiles does not change and does not become more complicated. The SVP CLAMP from below presses two adjacent tiles to the even surface of the WEDGE, preventing the tiles from moving relative to each other during the glue drying process. And a day after the adhesive layer has dried, with a blow of a rubber hammer along the seam, the clamp breaks at the base, which remains under the tile. SVP WEDGES are assembled for further use. Read more below and watch a video about using SVP.

As can be seen from the table, the smaller the format, the greater the SVP consumption per square meter and the higher the final laying cost. The golden mean is 600x600 format. With a tile format of 1200x600, SVP is even more profitable, because. without the use of these devices, perfectly even laying of tiles 1200x600 (without drops at the seams) is not an easy task and is almost impossible. To save money, finishers sometimes use one SVP (Tile Alignment System) CLAMP per four tile joint, rather than four CLAMPS - in which case the tiles are supposed to be exactly the same thickness. But the end result may not be exactly what you want. And since we need a perfectly flat floor, the savings here are not justified.

The SVP product consists of two parts, a clamp and a wedge.

The wedge is a reusable item.

Instructions for using SVP when laying tiles

1. Apply the adhesive solution according to the manufacturer's instructions. Install two clamps under the tile on each side, stepping back from the edge of the tile about 50mm.

2. Lay the next tile

3. Insert the wedge between the tiles and the top of the clamp, fix so that the bottom of the wedge fits snugly against the tiles and the edges (sides) of the tiles line up.

After the adhesive has completely dried, to remove the wedge, simply tap the top of the clip along the tile seam. The bottom of the clip remains under the tile.

4. Collect wedges for later use.

Examples of using SVP

Installation of tiles is a rather laborious process, which takes a lot of time and requires special efforts, especially to level the surface on which the tiles are laid. With the help of a special device in the form of a tile leveling system, it is possible to significantly speed up the installation procedure for this finishing material. Learn more about how to lay tiles with your own hands.

Laying tiles in the bathroom with your own hands: technology and features of the implementation

First of all, before starting installation work, you should prepare the tool and material for work. Prepare several types of spatulas, a level that will help control the evenness of the surface. In addition, do not forget about the container in which the mortar is prepared, the tile cutter, with which the tiles are cut into separate fragments.

Other materials are selected on an individual basis and are based on the type and characteristics of the work performed. In addition, you should calculate the required amount of tiles laid in the bathroom. To do this, first measure the surface area that can be tiled. Next, the number of whole and cut tiles is determined, based on this it is possible to obtain the optimal amount of tiles for work. Pay special attention to the evenness of the walls and floor before work, evaluate the difficulty of installing tiles in the places where communication systems pass. Add at least 10% to the resulting value to compensate for tile defects.

The tile is fixed on the surface with the help of specialized adhesives. In rooms with a high level of humidity, it is recommended to use compounds with additional moisture-resistant characteristics. Please note that proper surface preparation for work is the key to high-quality tiling.

It is with the preparation of the surface that you should begin work on laying the wall tiles with your hands. Please note that tile adhesive will not help to get rid of large irregularities, not only will you increase the cost of the adhesive, but also reduce the quality of the tile finish. All tiles should be laid evenly on a small layer of adhesive.

Before laying tiles on the floor, a screed is formed. For rooms with high humidity, such as a bathroom or kitchen, the screed is additionally waterproofed. There are two methods of forming a screed:

  • dry;
  • wet.

The main rule for obtaining a high-quality screed is the strict implementation of all technological standards and requirements. When replacing an old coating with a tile, it is recommended to equip a wet type screed, in which case a cement composition is used to level the floor.

To finish the walls with tiles, the old finish is removed from them, plastering is performed with the obligatory use of reinforced elements. Beacons are used in the process of work. Please note that the tiles do not fit on the putty, as the adhesion between the adhesive and this material will not be sufficient to hold the tiles on the wall. All skirting boards, trims on doors and other elements must be dismantled.

Do-it-yourself tiling in the bathroom video:

After performing a high-quality preparation of the walls and floor in the bathroom, the surfaces should be marked. This will require the presence of supports, according to which tiles are installed in the first row. A corner made of plastic or wood is fixed at the bottom of the walls. It is they who will act as supporting elements to hold the first row of tiles.

Using a plumb line, control the evenness of the tile laying in the vertical direction. If you are going to lay mosaics or tiles of different colors, mark with a pencil or chalk where the tiles of one color or another will be installed.

It is also necessary to mark the place of installation of the first row of tiles on the floor. Mark the tiles that are different from all the others. Lay tiles on the floor should be from the far corner of the room. Please note that the tiles are aligned in such a way that the entrance part is finished with whole tiles without cutting them. When performing calculations, consider not only the whole tile, but also the seams between its individual fragments.

After marking and setting landmarks, the tiles should be laid directly. To do this, prepare the solution according to the instructions and apply it with a notched trowel to the wall. The surface before laying should be qualitatively leveled. Initially, the tile rests on the supporting elements, then on the mortar. Do not press the tile too hard, turn it slightly to one side and the other, thus increasing the adhesion between the adhesive and the tile.

The tile must be positioned correctly on the wall, since removing it from the surface and reinstalling it significantly reduces the level of adhesion between it and the adhesive. To check the evenness of the installation of tiles, use the level. To deepen the tile, use a rubber mallet if necessary. On the corner fragments of the tile, place crosses that will help form the same gaps between the tiles.

Please note that excessive pressure on the tile to such an extent that the mortar begins to come out from under it is unacceptable, all gaps between the tiles should not contain additional mortar. Since they will be filled with grout, which not only gives the tile an aesthetic appeal, but also improves its moisture resistance and dirt resistance.

If you have some experience with tiles, apply a solution for mounting several tiles at once. At the same time, to install the tile in its place, twist it a little in different directions. Next, install crosses between the tiles and check the evenness of the laying with a level.

After laying the first row of tiles, it is recommended to wait for the glue to set. Thus, the tile will take the position it needs and will not change it in the future. Please note that if there are interruptions in work, excess mortar should not peek out from under the laid tiles. Otherwise, the strength of the connection between the tiles is reduced.

Initially, the wall is filled, on which solid tile options are located, and then the cut tiles are already installed. For cutting tiles, both a glass cutter and a tool in the form of a tile cutter or grinder are used. Using the latter option, stock up on a respirator and a protective mask, and also work outside the premises. When marking tiles, consider the gaps between individual elements. To form an uneven cut on a tile, it is necessary to have a special device in the form of a manual tile cutter-nippers or a special electric machine.

After laying the tile floor in the bathroom, it is grouted with your own hands. Please note that at least two weeks must pass before the procedure. Since the adhesive under the tiles must dry completely. All crosses between the tiles are dismantled, and the seam is jointed.

There are several options for grouting, which differ both in scope and in composition. In addition, the grout for the floor should match the color of the tile. The cement version of the grout is sold in dry form and is diluted with water before application. This type of grout dries very quickly, so you need to dilute it in small portions. Silicone or epoxy based grouts provide the best performance and are recommended for use in bathrooms. Such grouts are sold ready-made, they are quickly applied and easy to use.

Before jointing, the joints between tiles must be completely free of grout. For these purposes, use a vacuum cleaner. Further, when using all but cement grouts, it is necessary to stick masking tape on the tile. Otherwise, there is a possibility that the composition will get on the tile, and silicone and epoxy compounds will not be washed off with water.

Do-it-yourself tile laying video:

Use a rubber spatula to grout tiles. It allows you to evenly distribute the composition on the surface of the seam. If there is excess, they are also removed with a spatula. After the grout has completely dried, this time is indicated in the instructions, remove the masking tape and wipe the tile. Thus, the laying of tiles is considered complete.

During the installation of tiles, you can not do without cutting it. For these purposes, various tools and methods of its application are used. The simplest device with which you can cut the tile is a glass cutter. When using an electric or hand tool, cut tiles in the same way as glass. Initially, you should mark the tiles before cutting them. Use the cutting wheel to press down on the tile and break it afterwards. Please note that the aesthetic appeal of the cut will leave much to be desired, it will be sloppy and slightly uneven.

The most optimal device for cutting tiles is a tile cutter of a mechanical or electric type. This device is distinguished by the presence of a special platform on which the tile is located. In addition, it has a ruler with which markup is performed. Install limiters at a certain distance.

Particular difficulties arise in the process of cutting tiles in a semicircle or zigzag shape. This is necessary when the room is irregularly shaped or when installing tiles around the pipe. Initially, outline the desired shape of the tile. Next, using a tile cutter, cut off unnecessary parts piece by piece. The resulting edges are polished with sandpaper or a file. This process is quite lengthy, however, in this case, the tile takes the form we need.

Do-it-yourself tile laying on the floor video:

If tiles are installed along the length of the room without the need to cut them, then install them. In any case, the tile laying row must be offset so that the last whole tile is laid. If it is necessary to cut several centimeters of a tile, it should be moved so that the same distance between the cut tiles remains on both sides.

In the process of laying tiles on the walls of the kitchen not to the ceiling, the whole tiles should be located at the top of the wall. At the same time, laying starts from the bottom row, which is most often chopped.

In the process of installing tiles in the corridor, first fill the space between the long walls, while leaving gaps between the edges.

When using different methods of laying tiles and in the process of installing tiles of different colors, you should first mark the installation location of a particular tile on the wall. It is recommended to lay out the mosaic in advance on the floor, and then transfer it to the surface.

To improve the adhesion between the tile and the adhesive, it is recommended to pre-moisten it with water before installing it on the wall.

Laying tiles by hand in the toilet is done with great care. Since the toilet is often a small space, the tiles on the floor and on the walls should be spaced proportionally. In addition, special attention should be paid to pipes from the toilet and other communications.

Some tile options are soaked in water before laying on the floor in the toilet. After installing the tiles, check the evenness of the floor. To cut individual fragments for holes on the toilet or drain pipes, use a grinder. After the glue has dried, grout the joints and seal them. For these purposes, we recommend using a silicone-based grout. Since the toilet is a room with a high level of humidity, in order to avoid the appearance of mold between the seams of the tiles, they must be reliably protected from moisture. Thus, it will be possible not only to improve the presentability of the appearance of the tile, but also to extend its service life.

Do-it-yourself tile laying on the wall video:

The tile leveling system is gaining more and more popularity. Abroad, the technology has been used for a long time, but we are trying to understand what it is. SVP - is it really a new word in science and technology or another scam for money?

The pros and cons of technology will be revealed in the article.

The essence of the alignment system

Everything ingenious is simple, and the functionality of the SVP is simple to the point of impossibility.

Fixtures for laying SVP tiles consist of:

  1. clamps;
  2. wedges that can be used up to 50 times;
  3. sometimes an auxiliary tool that allows you to fix the wedges in the clamps. These tools are special tongs.

The svp tile leveling system works according to the technology:

  1. The clamp is inserted under the tile, two sets per fragment.
  2. The wedge is driven into the top of the clamp.
  3. Due to this, the neighboring tiles are adjusted: if one fragment sank in relation to the neighboring tile, then it will rise and there will be no visual differences.
  4. After fixing the tile, the wedges are knocked down.

System Benefits

  • Smooth surface. You can lay tiles on a large area and not worry about drops or irregularities. The SVP tile leveling system will ensure a flat plane and a long service life.
  • Reliable fixation of the tile during the drying of the glue. It is known that sometimes a tile can sag, move a little. SVP fixes each fragment so that it will remain in the same position.
  • Same seams. The clips are of the same thickness, so they serve as a kind of cross for the seams.

When SVP should not be used

The SVP tile leveling system is used for laying tiles with a thickness of 3 to 20 mm, depending on the manufacturer of the SVP. It is universal, it can be used for wall and floor tiles. It makes no difference which laying method is used: straight or diagonal.

Watch the video carefully. It is very sensibly and clearly explained why, before buying a SVP, you should pay attention to the quality of the tile itself!

But SVP should not be used for small-format tiles. There are reasons for this:

  • More kits will be required, which will affect the cost of laying tiles.
  • Installation of systems will require a lot of time, so the SVP, which is called upon, will speed up the process of laying the cladding, in this case it will only distract and take time.
  • For small format tiles, it is reasonable to make small seams, and the SVP clamp will provide a seam of at least 2-3 mm.
  • The thickness of the base of the clamp will not allow to make it less than a few mm, and for small formats such a layer will be enough and even more.
  • Small tiles can be laid manually, all seams and the plane are clearly visible, which is not necessary for leveling the tiles.

For laying large tiles, SVP will be a good help, an auxiliary tool that will help create a smooth and beautiful tiled surface.

Underwater rocks

The use of SVP has certain pitfalls:

  • It should not be assumed that SVP levels out all the irregularities and errors of the base. If the surface is uneven, the tile will need to be laid on a layer. You will need to use different combs and a different layer of glue. If the adjacent piece is higher, then the tile leveling system will raise the sunken piece. But in this case, a void formed under it if there is not enough glue there. And the voids under the tiles threaten with chips and cracks.

    note

Using this method, you first need to prepare the surface: level it, make markings and see where which layer of glue is required.

  • Buy only quality material. If the clips are made of poor quality plastic, they will break and be problematic to work with. The biggest problem is breakage inside the seam. Then you have to dig out the remnants of the plastic from the seam. If glue remains in the seam, the grout will not hide it, it will be ugly and sloppy.
  • When installing clamps and wedges, it is problematic to clear the seams. Every tiler knows how important it is to clean the seam, that is, to remove glue residue from it. When the glue dries, it will be more difficult to do. And the remaining glue in the seam interferes with its quality wipe. Therefore, from the very beginning, make sure that glue does not get into the seam.
  • When installing the system, the seams are obtained from 3 mm, which is always practical and beautiful.

Leveling System Technology

The whole truth about SVP. Personal opinion of the tiler. Very interesting video, highly recommended!

  1. Decide on the layout method, make markup.
  2. Apply tile adhesive to the base with a comb.
  3. Lay the first piece, then install 2 clips on one side of the tile. Step back 5 cm from the edge. The clamp must be bent, as shown in the figure below, and then installed under the tile on the base.
  4. Lay adjacent parts, install clamps.
  5. Wedges are inserted after laying adjacent fragments.
  6. Drive the wedges into the clamps, use special tongs. The wedge should fit snugly against the surfaces of both tiles.
  7. The seam may diverge somewhat, it must be corrected manually so that visually nothing diverges.
  8. The set is completed with crosses that are inserted into the seams.
  9. After a day, when you can walk on the tile, the upper part of the clamp and the wedge must be knocked down. Use a rubber mallet and use directed blows to knock down everything that is superfluous. Make sure that there are no plastic particles left in the seams.
  10. Let's move on to grouting.

The figure below shows step by step what needs to be done and how the clamps and wedges work.

What does consumption depend on?

The cost of kits depends on:

  • The quality of the ingredients. If the clamps are made of low-quality plastic, they may break during operation. The expense will increase.
  • Tiling skill. If a person works with the system for the first time, mistakes cannot be avoided.
  • Tile sizes. If the length of one of the sides of the tile is up to a meter, then use an additional kit for better fixation.

Homemade option

Buying clamps and wedges made of quality plastic is an additional expense and many prefer to make their own.

In this video I use clothespins as a homemade SVP system, but experts do not recommend doing amateur work

Bent aluminum wire 1.7mm will serve as clamps. It is relatively strong, but bends well. To make it easier to knock down the clamp later, make bites with wire cutters in the right places.

The bottom stop or base of the clamp will be a piece of fiberboard, a piece of dried mounting foam and improvised materials.

From above, the wire is twisted, a wedge is inserted from a piece of ceramics. Insert a small piece of fiberboard to secure the wedge in place.

Decide for yourself: whether it is worth spending time on making homemade devices or spending money on buying quality goods.

Outcome

Svp is a new tile alignment system, it is reasonable to use it when working with large tile formats. In this case, the laying process will really speed up.
Buy quality systems, their use will pay off in the process. Applying the tips from the article, as well as getting your hands on it, you can quickly install the SVP.
