4. Find the biggest tulip

Oooh, this is a tricky puzzle :) As soon as it seems to you that here it is, found and photographed from all 10 angles, in two minutes the next one will be located. And then more and more! Anyway, try it :)

5. Find the name of the tulip closest to your heart

Last year, it sunk into my soul, and this year the Kiev tulip caught on. But Minsk, unfortunately, was not found!

6. Find Miffy's house, especially if you come with children

Miffy, aka Nyntje, is a bunny girl, the hero of books loved by Dutch children (the scale of this love is such that I would call this bunny a national hero), which the artist Dick Bruna composed for his son. Today, these books have been translated into 40 languages, including, of course, Russian. In general, there is a reason to look into the rabbit's house (there is a store with themed paraphernalia) and get to know the Dutch book characters better.

And near this house, in my opinion, are the most breathtaking flower beds with a mix of flowers.

7. Stop for a minute and feel the beauty of the moment

Feel it, not just see it! Find a bench in a quiet place, hide the camera, listen to the birds singing ...

In general, as the Americans say, stop and smell the roses - almost in the truest sense of the word. It sounds so easy, but not everyone succeeds.

Well, I personally could manage for about five minutes :) Just relax, promise yourself that I have everything, but then my hand instinctively reaches for the camera and asks to capture the moment!

A million, a million scarlet roses of tulips!

In some places it seems that this is not Holland, but Japan, right? :)

Despite the fact that Keukenhof is called a tulip park, all these years I have wanted to see this particular “river” of blue flowers. And so, having watched in a live broadcast that (thank you, “My Man in Amsterdam”), I finally made my dream come true.

I also discovered one amazing thing! I knew that flowers in Keukenhof are planted according to the principle of "lasagna" - bulbs of different colors are buried in several levels, at different depths. But I always thought that this was done only to ensure that during the work of the park something constantly bloomed - some flowers bloomed, others blossomed.

And it turns out that flowers can bloom not only in turn, but also together! And they are mixed in such a way that everything harmoniously combines both in shades, and in height, and in plot.

Simply amazing!

Tomorrow, April 23, we will have another colorful event - Flower Parade. I know that many of you are also going there, to the Keukenhof itself or to the final, in Haarlem. I plan to be in Haarlem in the evening too. Find out - come meet!

Stay in touch!

Good afternoon dear friends!

Today I invite you to the unique and amazing Keukenhof tulip park, located near Amsterdam.

Just a few days ago I returned from this beautiful corner of the Netherlands, which is also called the Park of Europe. In 2016, this park opened on March 24 for the 67th time.

The park is located on the territory of 32 hectares, annually it is visited by more than a million people. It is open to the public only 8 weeks a year. The rest of the time, work is underway in the park so that visitors can admire this beauty again next year.

The entrance ticket to the park costs 16 euros. But many travel companies also charge for a transfer to the park. Our sightseeing tour of Holland included visiting the cities of Amsterdam, The Hague, several villages, and a trip to the park cost 25 euros, since this trip was declared optional on the tour, so the transfer to the park was included in the price.

So, go ahead, for new experiences!

The first visitors are greeted by a fountain and a hurdy-gurdy.

A large beautiful hurdy-gurdy plays cheerful music, immediately setting the visitors in a festive mood.

Keukenhof Park begins its work with the beginning of flowering - crocuses, iridodictums,. Then the baton is picked up, daffodils and, of course,.

As soon as you step onto the path of the park, it immediately deafens with dazzling colors. It is hard to believe that 30 gardeners create all this beauty. Over 7 million bulbs have been planted in the park!

In the midst of flowering, the flower parade takes place in the park. This year it took place on April 23rd. We were a little late with the order, there were no more places for the tour with a visit to the Flower Parade. But, as our guide said, this year it was very cold during the parade, everyone froze.

And we got into a good period when the bulk of tulips were in bloom. The weather was also beautiful, it was sunny and moderately warm, just what you need for travel. Is it possible not to take a picture in such beauty?

We spent the whole day in the park, which is very good. If you decide to visit Holland with a stop at a tulip park, choose a tour in which the whole day is allotted to the park. For 3-4 hours you will not bypass everything.

After all, you want to see the park, and visit the pavilions, and have a picnic or go to a cafe for a bite to eat. Or just sit on a bench and listen to the birds singing.

Amazing designs by the designers. Here you can see the muscari stream running between the hills and beautiful waterfalls.

Entire huge meadows are planted with bizarre patterns, you won’t even immediately understand that these are huge tulips planted from tulips. You understand this when you see the drawing from afar.

What struck me in the Keukenhof park.

I have a lot of my tulips. There are different types - and fringed, and lily-colored, and Darwin hybrids, and simple late ones, and Greig's tulips.

I was struck by the thoughtfulness and scrupulousness with which flowers were planted in the park. The whole park is arranged in such a way that some flowers continuously change others.

The Dutch invented their own special technology for planting bulbous flowers. They plant bulbs in several tiers. Crocuses, hyacinths, daffodils and tulips are planted in one place, like a layer cake.

The last ones land first. This is the first layer and it will be tulips, the next layer is daffodils, hyacinths are planted even higher, and the very last layer is crocuses.

And the result is a flower bed of continuous flowering. The photo has already faded, but daffodils, tulips and continue to bloom. And the foliage of crocuses makes a great backdrop for other flowers.

The theme of Keukenhof 2016 is the Golden Age.

Every year the theme of the park is different and every year it's a little secret. In 2016, the theme is the Golden Age. This is the 17th century, when Holland, thanks to success in navigation and trade, became the richest country.

This theme is also reflected in the park's pavilions, there are four of them. All of them are named after the royal family. Wiliam-Flexsander (flower exhibitions are held there), Oranje Nassau (flower arrangements, floristry workshops), Beatrix (orchids), Juliana/Tulpanjmania (the history of tulips).

There is also the Wilhelmina pavilion, which houses a medical aid station, a souvenir shop, and a cafe.

I will tell you more about the pavilions in another publication, but today I want to give a general idea of the park.

Near the Oranje Nassau pavilion there is a huge picture of the Golden Age. The painting depicts Dutch houses and a trading ship. The flower mosaic area is 250 square meters. To create it, 100,000 bulbs of tulips, hyacinths and crocuses were used. Here it is in the photo in two parts, it did not fit entirely, although a special platform was made for its inspection. The right side of the panel is houses.

The left side of the panel depicts a sailing ship.

There is a mill at the edge of the park. It fits perfectly into the design and perfectly complements it. My sister Alla posed. The mill is difficult to photograph without people, because it has an observation deck.

Anyone can go up to the observation deck of the mill and look at the multi-colored fields of tulips that stretch around the park behind the canal.

You can ride a boat along this canal, the trip will cost 8 euros. But we did not go by boat, from the mill it was clear that part of the fields had already faded, their heads were cut off.

In the park, flower collectors sell collectible amaryllis and tulips. I cannot but show this beauty, the exhibition in the pavilion is also dedicated to amaryllis.

I could not resist, I bought a couple of amaryllis bulbs. As they bloom, I will share the beauty.

A set of 100 collectible tulip bulbs costs 47 euros and is sent to all countries except Russia and Belarus. This was told to us by our fellow travelers.

At the exit from the park, you can also buy planting material for flowers. There is also an onion market outside the park, but we did not get there. One of our fellow travelers ran there. He said that planting material is much cheaper there than in the park.

I did not set myself the goal of buying bulbs, there was no experience of buying tulip bulbs in the spring. After all . But the guide said that last year she brought the bulbs, kept them in a cool place, and planted them in the fall - and everything bloomed.

Therefore, I also bought some bulbs of terry tulips, I will store them until September. And next spring I'll tell you what came of it.

There is a corner in the park where wild tulips are presented, from which the selection of these flowers began. We must pay tribute to the savages - they are all so beautiful! No worse than selective.

But no matter how wonderful it is among the flower splendor, you have to leave the park. But I really want to come back here again.

Tips for those who want to visit the Keukenhof park.

  • If you want to get to the Flower Parade, take care of the trip in advance. Also, study the schedule of exhibitions in the pavilions to get to the one that interests you.
  • Choose a tour in which the whole day is allotted to the park, because half a day will not be enough for you. Take spare batteries or accumulators with you to the park, because your hands themselves reach out to take pictures of this beauty.
  • You can take food for a picnic to the park, for this there is a specially designated place on the green lawn. And you can visit the cafe and have a leisurely bite to eat.
  • And be sure to wear comfortable shoes, being on your feet all day is no joke!

Beautiful bright flowers - tulips, for many are a symbol of blooming spring. Also, tulips in our minds are inextricably linked with Holland. Tourists planning to visit this wonderful European country will be interested to know when tulips bloom in Holland.

History of floriculture in the Netherlands

The cultivation of tulips in Holland has more than four centuries of history. In 1599, the Austrian botanist Carolus Clusius, who came to Holland at the invitation of the University of Leiden, brought with him a collection of Turkish tulips. Oddly enough, the southern flowers took root perfectly in the North European country, and the Dutch liked it so much that a real tulip fever broke out in the country. Rare bulbs were sold at auctions for a lot of money, and along the way, new varieties were cultivated. In the export of modern Netherlands, floriculture occupies a leading place, and in terms of the volume of flowers sold, the state occupies an honorable first place in the world.

Tulip season in Holland

The tulip season in Holland lasts from mid-April to mid-May. Numerous vast fields with tulips and other flowers are located throughout the state, especially in the coastal part of the North Sea, near the cities of The Hague and Leiden. Flower fields with tulips in the drained Beimster reservoir near Amsterdam are under the protection of UNESCO.

The Keukenhof park is distinguished by a special abundance of flowering and diversity in Holland. Planted in even rows and in figured flowerbeds of juicy color, flowers spread a wonderful aroma around. Every year at least 7 million flower bulbs are planted in Keukenhof, most of which are tulips. Tourists who come to Amsterdam take varietal bulbs with them for cultivation at home or on the land. The park is open every year from March 24 to May 20. Recently, guests can see the magical park from tourist planes.

When is the Tulip Festival in Holland?

For two days at the end of April, the Tulip Festival takes place. Many tourists are planning a trip to the Netherlands by this time. It's worth it - the sight is truly impressive! Competing in skill, landscape designers create original flower arrangements. A flower parade is held throughout the country. Cars and river rafts are decorated with thousands of colorful tulips, music and dance groups perform everywhere.
