What you need to connect a dishwasher. Installing a dishwasher: practical recommendations for connection

The problem of connecting a dishwasher must be solved even before the delivery of such a long-awaited and necessary appliance. It would be very wise, having identified a specific model for yourself, to ask what is needed to connect the dishwasher, and whether the dimensions of the case will fit into the planned space under the countertop.

How to connect equipment correctly, on your own or call a specialist

All manufacturers of household appliances, with the exception of some Chinese companies, provide rules for installing and connecting a dishwasher in the operating instructions for the device. Moreover, dealers and representatives of well-known European brands often require that the connection of washing machines and dishwashers be carried out only by authorized specialists, otherwise the warranty may be denied.

Although there is a free connection service for certain types of very expensive equipment. For example, most retail centers for household appliances offer a technician to connect and diagnose an Electrolux dishwasher completely free of charge. For simpler dishwashers, such promotions are rare.

In such a situation, you can do the following:

  • Agree and pay for the specialist’s work, giving him all questions related to connecting the equipment. At the same time, the responsibilities of the master do not include laying pipes and wiring, or preparing the space in the kitchen. You will have to do all this yourself; the service representative will only connect the wiring, drain hoses and note in the report that the work was completed in accordance with the requirements and connection diagram of the dishwasher;
  • Connect the dishwasher yourself. With proper preparation, this will take a maximum of one day, saving money and nerves, especially since 99% of the connection work will still have to be done by hand;
  • Buy a six-year warranty service for the purchased dishwasher in the same salon. As a rule, this is very little money, and the problem of installing and connecting a dishwasher does not interest them at all.

In this way, you can get a real guarantee and simplify the problems of self-installation. Of course, if the equipment is delivered to your home or place of residence at the expense of the selling company, before acceptance it is advisable to check with the utmost rigor that the delivery is complete and that there are no signs of opening the case.

For your information! This approach is justified not only in the situation with a dishwasher. If a batch of equipment is produced with defects, then the faulty unit will “shoot” and break much earlier than six months have passed.

On the other hand, service companies are very reluctant to provide free replacement or service; most often you have to pay for quick and high-quality repairs, regardless of who and how the dishwasher was connected.

Preparing to install and connect dishwashers in the kitchen

First of all, you need to decide on the type of housing; dishwashers can be produced in two versions:

  • Built-in or mounted in a kitchen furniture set. Today this is the most optimal solution if there is a problem where to install a dishwasher in a small kitchen;
  • Free-standing structures. As a rule, the housing is installed on one of the flanks of the furniture facade, but if desired, the dishwasher can also be placed under the countertop, if, of course, the lifting height allows it.

The standard depth of the dishwasher body is 50 cm. This means that when built into the bottom row of a furniture façade, the front panel will be in the same plane as the drawers and cabinets.

What you need to know about your dishwasher before connecting it

But there are also universal devices, most often from German and Italian manufacturers. For example, connecting a Bosch dishwasher can be done almost anywhere in the kitchen or even in the hallway. The height of the machine is 84 cm, easily adjustable with screw legs to the required 80-81 cm.

Some craftsmen are trying to integrate the SPS50E82EU model into the kitchen facade; this is quite realistic and justified when it comes to how to place a dishwasher in a small kitchen. But it is worth remembering that the manufacturer did not take into account the possibility of this installation and connection option, so during service maintenance you will need to work hard to get to the filter, the Aquastop machine or the hose outlet.

For your information! Do not install any type of dishwasher directly under a kitchen sink or near a washing machine.

In addition, universal systems have a large cabinet depth, reaching 60 cm; on a standard facade, the dishwasher will simply protrude by 10 cm. Therefore, when choosing a place to put the dishwasher in a small kitchen, it is best to give preference to the corner sections of the facade, for example, in where the headset adjoins the external wall, even if there is a heating radiator nearby.

Preparing for installation of a built-in machine

First, in the place chosen for installation and connection of the machine, remove the shelves and drawers of the lower tier of the facade. Using a ring drill and an electric drill, holes are cut in the side wall for laying water and sewer hoses.

A corrugated sleeve for electrical wiring and a silicone pipe for the grounding conductor are pulled to the connection point. All elements must be raised above the floor level by at least 10 cm and secured with plastic clamps to the adjacent kitchen wall.

The bottom of the box into which the built-in dishwasher is planned to be connected is reinforced with additional supports, or the bottom part is removed completely if a universal-type dishwasher is to be installed. To maintain the rigidity of the facade, the rear walls are tightened with an aluminum profile, and for the built-in housing, side windows are cut out in the facade walls, through which you can get to the back of the device.

The first stage, connecting the machine to the kitchen water and sewerage system

First of all, you need to consider the question of how to connect the dishwasher to the water supply and sewerage system. On average, a dishwasher consumes no more than 10 liters of water per wash, which, of course, cannot be compared with the costs of washing machines, but you will still need to collect the most reliable wastewater outlet into the apartment’s sewer pipe.

For normal operation of the dishwasher drain system, several requirements must be met:

The drainage tube is connected in a similar way; relatively clean water mostly flows through it, so it can be connected anywhere in the drainage system.

This scheme ensures reliable blocking of dirty water in the sewer and ensures that the discharged water flow does not return back to the dishwasher. If there is no sink in the room, and accordingly, the entrance to the sewer pipe is located at a height of 13-15 cm, then you will need to install a tee or corner with a diameter of 50 mm, with the help of which, according to the established scheme, the dishwasher is connected to the sewer as standard.

You can connect the dishwasher drain by throwing the drain hose into the sink, or by bending the corrugation into an arc and leading the outlet directly into the sewer pipe. Such methods are not very good, as they affect the stability of the dishwasher. But as a temporary measure or a way to check the performance of the device, they may well be used for some time.

Water connection

The principle of connecting a dishwasher to a water supply is no different from a similar procedure for a washing machine, so most owners of newly purchased equipment easily perform this type of work with their own hands.

Following the manufacturer's recommendations, you will first need to embed a faucet - a tee - into the water pipe. If metal-plastic pipes are used in the kitchen, then there are no problems; it is much more difficult to make an insert in a situation where the pipes are steel or plastic. In the latter case, you will need a soldering iron for polypropylene and a double-sided outlet.

If the pipe is metal, then to connect the dishwasher you will need a special clamp and an electric drill with a large-diameter drill.

All this is not very convenient, especially considering that in order to turn on the machine, you have to climb into the cabinet under the sink every time.

It is easier and more reliable to install a bronze tee on an existing water tap, for example, on a sink. To connect, the water at the entrance to the apartment is turned off and the old tap is removed. After winding with fum tape, the tee is screwed on and the old mixer tap is returned to its place. A shut-off ball valve with an external outlet thread is mounted on the tee. The standard flexible hose that comes with the dishwasher is connected. One union nut with a gasket is screwed onto the inlet fitting located on the rear side of the machine, the second end is screwed onto the outlet thread of the ball valve.

Both nuts are screwed on by hand, without any tools, so it is possible to securely connect the water and at the same time not crush the silicone gasket. Connect the dishwasher to hot water in the same way. This procedure is carried out quite rarely, and only for models capable of operating on hot water. Approximately 90% of dishwasher models are designed to work with cold water.

In the compartment under the sink you can install a fine filter that collects all mechanical particles in the water. If the water is too hard, oversaturated with salts, then you can install a softener filter with a magnetic or electromagnetic core. It is better not to use phosphate granular softeners, since not all dishwashers are capable of washing dishes until the phosphoric acid salts are completely removed.

Second stage, connecting to electricity

For stable operation of the device, a stable and reliable supply of electricity is necessary. The machine has at least two automation units, one of which ensures the execution of programs, the second controls the pumping of water and the operation of pumps. One or two power surges, and the automatic dishwasher burns out if the contacts are carelessly arranged.

Connecting the dishwasher to the electrical network should be planned as safely as possible for a person; even if the contacts accidentally become wet or the insulation is damaged, the machine should not threaten his health.

Planning the electrical wiring

With rare exceptions, the cord in dishwashers is only 60-80 cm. This is clearly not enough, so careless craftsmen simply connect the machine to a power extension cord laid along the baseboard behind the back of the kitchen unit. At the first flood in the kitchen or water flowing under the facade, a short circuit occurs.

From the kitchen distribution box to the connection point, a mounting groove is cut by gating, into which a three-core cable with a mandatory ground terminal is laid. Pulling the wiring from the switchboard at the entrance to the apartment would be a good idea, but there is no particular need for this solution; you can limit yourself to the switchbox.

The machine's electricity consumption is quite modest, only 0.8-0.9 kW, so turning the device on and off has virtually no effect on the operation of other consumers. An electrical outlet is installed in a place convenient for plugging in; if the length of the cord allows, it is best to install the outlet above the countertop.

The model of the socket does not matter, you can install the usual version, the main thing is that the design has a reliable contact group with a spring rather than a petal clamp, and a grounding terminal. Any chattering or sparking of the contacts leads to burnout of the socket body or breakdown of the electronic board of the dishwasher.

According to the instructions, the dishwasher must be connected through an additional switch, but in practice it is rarely installed, except in cases where the wiring is routed to the distribution board to the automatic machine. You can turn off the power to the dishwasher by unplugging the plug from the socket.

The second, very important and extremely necessary device is the RCD-UDO electric shock protection circuit breaker. It must be placed, preferably so that the device indication is above the tabletop.

If in the kitchen, in addition to a washing machine and dishwasher, there is a refrigerator and an air conditioner, then it is best to use an outlet with a surge protector, or install a power surge protection unit. Regularly turning the refrigerator starting relay on and off can easily damage the dishwasher.

Testing an installed dishwasher

After checking that the machine is connected correctly, it is mandatory to run the machine dry, without loading it with dishes and detergent. Initially, the device is started at full load, and the following must be checked:

  • Is the water being drained correctly, is the flow not being thrown out through the drain hole of the sink;
  • Program execution time;
  • The condition of the socket, no overheating or sparking on the contacts.

It is clear that the task completion time may differ slightly from that given in the instructions, but this is not a problem of incorrect connection, but rather the influence of unstable voltage in the network. In a similar way, operation is checked in economy mode and when the hopper is not fully loaded.

Conclusion

The dishwasher connection details may differ slightly from manufacturer to manufacturer. For example, some models of Electrolux dishwashers require preliminary connection of the grounding bus to the machine body, and only after that the unit can be connected to the network. But the general sequence of work, regardless of the model and brand, remains the same.

Technical progress is an integral part of our life. Today, installing a dishwasher (hereinafter referred to as PMM, dishwasher), as well as a washing unit, is a common occurrence. Such equipment saves time and makes life easier for many people.

At the same time, buying the model you like is half the battle. In order for the unit to operate smoothly, it must be properly connected to the water supply and sewerage system. Most owners can easily connect a dishwasher themselves; they just need to follow a number of important rules. The work is carried out in several stages.

Preparatory stage

Before you begin installing the PMM, you should find a convenient place for it in the kitchen, as well as purchase the necessary tools and materials.

Where is the best place to place a dishwasher?

Of course, the best place for an automatic dishwasher is the kitchen. When choosing the optimal placement option, follow these rules:

  1. If there is room for PMM in the kitchen furniture, make sure that the built-in appliances fit into the niche under the countertop. If you don’t have the space you need, you can place the unit in a closet, under the sink, or in another place convenient for you.
  2. Try to choose a place close to the sink, otherwise the dishwasher drain pump will have a hard time pumping out the water. The distance to the sewer should not exceed 1.5 meters.
  3. If there is not enough space in the kitchen, choose the tabletop version of the PMM - this will automatically solve the issue with the sewage system (you can drain the water directly into the sink). Then connecting the dishwasher to the water supply and sewerage system will be much easier.
  4. An electrical outlet capable of providing electricity to the dishwasher should also be located nearby. It should be taken into account that the power of a dishwasher is usually from 2 to 3 kW.

Purchase of tools, consumables and accessories

To connect you will need the following tools:

  • electric drill and drills of different diameters;
  • flat and Phillips screwdrivers;
  • a hacksaw or special scissors for cutting metal-plastic pipes;
  • building level;
  • a set of wrenches and an adjustable wrench;
  • well sharpened knife;
  • wire cutters

Consumables primarily include hoses, because often those that come with equipment are not long enough. Before purchasing parts, measure the distance from the machine to the sewer and water supply. The hoses will additionally require clamps.

It is quite possible that you will need connectors with union nuts and fum tape to seal the threaded connections.

In addition, you should purchase a tee and a stopcock with a diameter of 3/4 inches for the branch from the water supply (this option is suitable if there are water pipes of the same diameter throughout the house). A siphon is required to organize the drainage.

If there is a washing machine nearby, you can use one siphon with two branches for both units.

If there is no sufficiently powerful grounded outlet nearby, to connect to the electrical network, purchase a three-core copper wire of a suitable cross-section and the required length along with a powerful outlet rated for a current of 16 A. It is best to lay the wire from the distribution panel in the apartment as a separate line.

Installation recommendations for certain dishwasher models

If possible, install a compact filter for water purification at the point of connection to the water supply - in this case, the PMM will last longer. A similar solution is recommended for Bosch dishwashers due to the fact that their inlet valves are sensitive to blockages.

When installing the filter, be careful when installing the gasket that seals the connection. Follow the instructions strictly, as incorrect positioning of the part leads to leaks.

Electrolux PMM should be installed strictly according to the building level. Even a slight deviation from the horizontal position can lead to the machine not working properly.

Of all dishwashers, Siemens brand units are among the most unpretentious to install and operate. At the same time, built-in models require reliable fastening and strict adherence to the dimensions of the niches for installation.

How to connect a dishwasher with your own hands

Connecting an automatic dishwasher yourself will save owners money and time. Before installing the dishwasher, read the instructions carefully. As a rule, a short step-by-step guide is included with all models from well-known brands. In most cases, the PMM will have to be installed in four stages:

  1. Build the dishwasher into the niche and securely fasten it there.
  2. Connect the 220 V network and install a socket in the wall next to the machine body.
  3. Connect the PMM to the water supply.
  4. Connect the unit to the sewer.

Electrical supply

It’s good if, at a distance of up to 1 m from the PMM housing, there is a grounded socket in the wall, designed for a current consumption of 16 A. Then you don’t have to do any electrical wiring. Otherwise, you will have to call a specialist or supply electricity yourself.

For wiring, use a copper cable with three cores, the cross-section of each of which must be at least 2 mm. At the entrance, in the distribution box or panel, the cable must be connected to a circuit breaker designed to operate at a current of 16 A.

In addition, it is advisable to connect an RCD to the cable line– a residual current device designed for a current of 16 A, with a leakage current of 30 mA (see photo).

Connecting the dishwasher to the water supply

The best option is to connect to the sink faucet located next to the PMM. To do this, turn off the cold water supply and find the place where the flexible hose from the faucet is connected to the cold water supply pipe. At this point, loosen the fastening and unscrew the nut securing the connection of the flexible hose to the pipe, then remove the hose.

At the connection point, install a tee, the leads of which are connected to the flexible hose of the mixer and the shut-off valve. Connect the coarse filter and the inlet hose for the PMM to the latter. Do not forget to first screw sealing fum tape onto the threads of all connections.

If you can't connect to the water supply under the sink, you may run into a nearby water pipe. For tapping into a metal pipe, it is best to use a crimp coupling. First, you need to drill a hole in the pipe to drain water.

If the water pipe is made of metal-plastic, you need to cut a piece from it equal in length to the tee that will be installed. Then install a tee at the cut site, to which then connect the shut-off valve, filter and PMM inlet hose.

Preparing the drain into the sewer

If the sink is located next to a dishwasher, combine their drains by installing a drain siphon with an additional outlet under the sink. Water from the sink will flow through the main channel, and waste liquid from the PMM will flow through the additional channel.

Siphons with one and two outlets are available for sale. Two additional outlets are convenient when you plan to place a washing machine next to the dishwasher. To learn how to properly install a washing unit, read our article.

To prevent water from the siphon from entering the drain of the machine, the drain hose must be connected through a small bend connected directly to the siphon branch.

Another option is to install a tee at the entrance to the sewer, connect a kitchen sink to one of the branches, and connect the PMM to the other. To prevent unpleasant odors from spreading throughout the kitchen, the holes are sealed with rubber or plastic cuffs.

The easiest way is to organize a drain from a tabletop PMM. To do this, just attach the drain hose to the sink sink. Particular attention should be paid to the reliability of the fastening, since a hose that breaks out of the sink can flood the kitchen floor with liquid.

As you can see, anyone can easily organize the connection of a dishwasher. You only need to have a small set of tools and available materials with you. If you need to build dishwashing equipment into a niche, follow the instructions supplied by the manufacturer with the PMM.

There are special traps to combat moths. The sticky layer with which they are covered contains female pheromones that attract males. By sticking to the trap, they are eliminated from the reproduction process, which leads to a decrease in the moth population.

Fresh lemon is not only suitable for tea: clean dirt from the surface of an acrylic bath by rubbing with half a cut citrus, or quickly wash the microwave by placing a container of water and lemon slices in it for 8-10 minutes at maximum power. The softened dirt can simply be wiped off with a sponge.

Threads made of gold and silver, which were used to embroider clothes in the old days, are called gimp. To obtain them, the metal wire was pulled for a long time with pliers to the required fineness. This is where the expression “to drag out the rigmarole” came from - “to do long, monotonous work” or “to delay the completion of a task.”

Before removing various stains from clothing, you need to find out how safe the selected solvent is for the fabric itself. It is applied in a small amount to an inconspicuous area of the item from the inside out for 5-10 minutes. If the material retains its structure and color, you can move on to stains.

If your favorite things show the first signs of gestation in the form of untidy pellets, you can get rid of them using a special machine - a shaver. It quickly and effectively shaves off clumps of fabric fibers and returns things to their proper appearance.

The dishwasher cleans more than just plates and cups. You can load it with plastic toys, glass lamp shades and even dirty vegetables, such as potatoes, but only without using detergents.

The habit of using an automatic washing machine “sparingly” can lead to the appearance of an unpleasant odor in it. Washing at temperatures below 60℃ and short rinses allow fungi and bacteria from dirty clothes to remain on internal surfaces and actively multiply.

A useful appliance in the kitchen is a dishwasher. It helps to save water, valuable time that can be spent on proper rest, communication with family, and doing household chores. If the family is large and everyone loves delicious home-cooked food, by the end of the day a lot of dishes accumulate, left over from preparing and eating food.

This wonderful device will easily cope with the task of washing dishes; the quality of the wash will surprise the demanding housewife. When the machine is purchased, it needs to be installed and connected. Below is a step-by-step instruction that will tell you how to connect a dishwasher with your own hands to the water supply, cold and hot water, sewerage, electricity, how to choose the right place, how to install the equipment.

Dishwasher in the kitchen

Dishwashers are gaining great popularity and are often found in apartments and houses. Washing dishes in a machine is convenient and comfortable. The device allows you to save water consumption and electricity required to heat water. It is not surprising that a dishwasher is present in many homes or is planned for the nearest purchase. The best time to decide to purchase this device is when renovating a kitchen.

If the place is determined and prepared, you can install the machine at any time. Installation work is not complicated, you can successfully complete it yourself. What is needed to connect a dishwasher?

The dishwasher does not require any special installation. After installing the machine, you will need to connect to the main networks:

  • electricity,
  • water supply,
  • sewerage.

In some cases, you can connect the device to hot water, but not all models allow this method; this should be indicated in the instructions.

Preparing the installation site

First you need to decide on the location of the equipment. It is advisable to foresee the placement location in advance in the kitchen design, but you can easily install it at any time if the necessary networks are nearby: water supply, sewerage, electricity.

The optimal location is near the sink. Before purchasing, it is necessary to evaluate the amount of space available, because the equipment is offered in different sizes. To gain additional space, it is worth giving up one kitchen cabinet.

Freestanding models have standard widths:

  • 60 cm,
  • 45 cm.

The standard depth is 60 cm, height is 85 cm. In most cases, the machines are equipped with legs that allow minor adjustments (raise, lower by 2-4 cm). Some free-standing models allow installation under the kitchen countertop; their top cover can be removed. Built-in machines have similar dimensions.

Installing and connecting a built-in machine will require great accuracy in measuring the installation location. The built-in option must be provided at the stage of ordering kitchen furniture. When the machine is built-in, any intervention is difficult or impossible.

An interesting solution is a compact dishwasher installed on the kitchen table. The compact model resembles a home microwave oven in appearance and does not require much space. Compact appliances will complement a small kitchen where it is impossible to install standard-sized appliances. Compact models are purchased by residents of rented apartments, childless couples, and bachelors.

What kind of water can I connect to?

The machine must be connected to a water supply, usually cold water. Some models can use hot water at 60°C. However, the profitability of this option is noticeable in the following situations:

  1. water is heated through the use of alternative energy sources (solar collectors, heat pumps);
  2. hot water is supplied by a boiler or gas heater, you can save a little, because the energy from burning gas is cheaper than electricity;
  3. The water is heated by a solid fuel boiler or a fireplace with a water jacket.

Using hot water is useful if the heating element burns out; replacing this component is expensive. Unfortunately, in modern technology, spare parts do not last very long; they are sold assembled, as a unit, so replacement is expensive. As the experience of the author of the article shows, this rule applies to little-known and popular brands present on the household appliances market.

Before connecting to the water supply, you need to make sure that the water:

  1. not too hard
  2. does not contain large amounts of iron, manganese.

What hardness is acceptable?

  • if the total hardness is less than 7 on the hardness scale, there is no need to use conditioner - the water is considered soft;
  • If the total hardness exceeds 7, water softening should be used.

When heated, compounds contained in water decompose into insoluble carbonates, forming scale (a phenomenon well known to people who use electric kettles).

Increased water hardness can:

  1. damage the device,
  2. significantly reduce the quality of washing.

To reduce hardness, it is necessary to install appropriate main filters at the entrance of the water supply to the apartment or directly in front of the equipment.

Connection to water supply

You can connect the water to the dishwasher yourself. Each machine is equipped with a water supply hose. Depending on the manufacturer, the lengths of the hoses are:

If the hose in the purchased model is too short, you need to purchase an extended version. It is not recommended to extend water hoses by connecting them to each other, as this may cause water leakage at the joints.

An easy way is to connect the dishwasher to the water - under the sink. Flexible high-pressure hoses that need to be hidden in the sink cabinet are suitable for these connections (the hose is included with the machine).

To connect you need

  1. Turn off the main water supply valve in the apartment.
  2. Unscrew the pipe.
  3. Water is supplied to the sink through 2 pipes (cold and hot). A tee with a faucet for the machine is installed on the cold water pipe. If the dishwasher is connected to hot water, a similar tee is installed on the hot water pipe.
  4. We screw the high pressure hose to the faucet and to the machine.

Checking the tightness of the system

After installing the pipes, it is necessary to check the tightness of the system. The tightness is checked by opening the main tap in the apartment, and then after the first start of the machine.

It is important to check the pressure in the water supply system. To operate the device, it is sufficient to provide a water supply of at least 10-15 l/min; the water pressure must have the value specified by the manufacturer (range: 0.1-1 MPa).

Connecting a dishwasher to the sewer - options

Most dishwashers have their own hoses and tubes for draining used water. They have different lengths, but the outflow pipe, if necessary, must be lengthened while maintaining the necessary tightness.

Attention! To prevent unpleasant odors from appearing in the dishwasher, it is important to ensure that wastewater is removed at the proper slope.

If the sewer system is being built from scratch, it should be remembered that near the location of the device there must be an outlet to the sewer with a diameter of at least 4 cm, preferably with an inlet opening directed upwards, possibly extending horizontally from the wall. The bent end of the flexible drainage hose, which is usually equipped with the machine, must be placed in the drain pipe and secured to the wall with a special handle so that it does not fall out.

Connection to the sewer, photo

You can use a special rubber plug with a hole for the hose or a plastic sewer connection with a 1/2-inch connection to attach the drain hose.

If there is no drain to which the dishwasher can be connected directly, you can use a sink trap. You will need to replace the top fitting of the siphon with a tee for connection with a side connection. The design of some siphons includes a tee fitting for installing a drain pipe, then you do not have to install anything additional. This connection is used to install the drain hose. To increase the tightness of the connections, you must additionally use clamps.

The minimum height of the drain hose is 40 centimeters. The height of the drain hole is usually specified by the manufacturer in the instructions. Compliance with this slope will protect against unwanted odors from sewer pipes.

Scheme. Drain height - installation rules

Electrical connection

All devices available on the market operate at a nominal voltage of 220 V and have an electrical cable with a plug.

Important! The outlet must be grounded.

It is worth noting that for safety reasons this should not be done when connecting to the mains. Dishwashers are equipped with a system that interrupts the water supply when malfunctions or internal leaks occur.

What not to do!

  • An extension cord must not be used. According to safety regulations, the machine should be connected directly to a grounded outlet.
  • Location of sockets. If the appliance is installed next to a sink, there is an electrical outlet nearby and there is a risk of contact with water. You should ensure safety - consider installing a moisture-resistant outlet. This issue is especially important if children live in the house.

Using the above rules, you can easily connect the dishwasher to the networks with your own hands. You will need a little skill, basic tools, a tee, a faucet. Installing a dishwasher is not difficult, it is important to follow the recommendations exactly. If the task is to do the installation professionally, to prevent sudden flooding of the apartment, it is better to entrust the work to a plumber.

Installing a dishwasher yourself will save you 1200 - 2500 rubles. The work you have ahead of you is not the most difficult. And yet, if you have no experience, then it is better not to risk it and call a specialist.

But if you purchased a portable PMM, then it is easy to install it yourself - you just need to connect the water supply hose to the cold water tap and lower the drainage drain into the sink.

In general, connecting a dishwasher located permanently consists of the following steps:

  1. Installation of the PMM at the site of operation (and dismantling of the old device, if necessary);
  • If you bought a built-in dishwasher, then you need to additionally install it into the furniture and hang it in the facade - the main difficulty here is to correctly mark the fasteners so that the facade is installed evenly.
  1. Connecting the dishwasher to the water drain and water fill terminals (if necessary, you need to extend the drainage hose);
  2. Connection to the socket (if necessary, electrical installation work to install the socket and lay the cable);
  3. Adjusting the machine by level;
  4. Checking the quality of installation.

If you are confident in your abilities, then let's get started.

What do we need

Before you build the dishwasher into a niche under the countertop or connect a stationary model, prepare the tools and plumbing fixtures.

Tool:

  • Pliers, or better yet an adjustable wrench;
  • Insulating tape (vinyl or cotton), it is wrapped around the metal threads on pliers so as not to damage the fastenings when tightening;
  • FUM tape for waterproofing;
  • Drill;
  • Clamps.

Plumbing fittings:

  • Drain siphon with 1 or 2 fittings – 2 fittings will allow you to immediately connect the washing machine;
  • Tee, ¾ thread;
  • A filter that provides rough water purification;
  • Ball valve;
  • Hank connecting pipe.

Connection features

So, step-by-step instructions on how to connect a dishwasher in stages:

  1. If you are installing a built-in PMM, then first you need to prepare a niche, which, as a rule, should be 60 cm wide, and for narrow models 45 cm. You can level the machine with the level of the cabinets by removing the tabletop and adjusting the legs of the lower cabinets. You also need to drill holes in the cabinet body for the drainage hose, water intake hose, and electrical wires.

  • Installing a dishwasher under the hob is prohibited;
  • The installation location is selected so that the length of the drainage hose does not exceed 1.5 meters. An increase in length up to 5 meters is allowed, but stable operation of the equipment in this case will be difficult to guarantee.
  1. The next step is connecting to electricity. Please note that the socket must be of the Euro type. You need to replace the socket if it does not meet the standards (but not the plug of the machine). Do not forget that we ensure safety when connecting, and the dishwasher has significant energy consumption. This determines the ban on the use of tees and extension cords. Installing a socket involves using a wire with a diameter of more than 2 mm. In addition, a 16A circuit breaker is additionally installed in the electrical panel. Grounding is also carried out using a 3-core wire, and it cannot be connected to pipes.
  2. Next is connecting the dishwasher to the water supply. To do this, the water is shut off, a tee is connected to the pipe, then a filter, a ball valve and a hen. All threaded joints are insulated with foam - it must be wound in at least 10 layers.

It is also necessary to install a coarse filter, as it will prevent sand and rust from the water pipe from getting inside the machine.

  1. As for connecting equipment to the sewer system, you can go the simple route by installing a siphon with an additional outlet and valve. In order to protect the device from water entering from the sewer pipe, you need to place the drain hose in a special way - at the point of exit into the sewer network, it is placed at a height of 600 mm along the wall, and then bent to ensure water flow.

  1. The final stage in connecting a dishwasher is checking the device for functionality. In this case, the machine is tested idle, controlling the rate of water flow, its heating, and operation in drying mode. The test is carried out without dishes, but with the obligatory addition of regenerating salt and detergents.

Connecting a dishwasher - step-by-step instructions

Takes ~5 minutes to read

More and more people prefer to wash dishes not themselves, but with the help of a dishwasher. When installing these household appliances, you must understand that connecting a dishwasher is far from an easy task. Therefore, if you are not confident in your abilities or are doing this for the first time, it is better to entrust the connection to an experienced specialist. You can help the master even during the call. Tell us what brand of equipment, what model and series number.

A portable machine with a compact size is considered the easiest to install and connect. In addition, it can be removed immediately after use. With a stationary device it will be more difficult; certain knowledge and skills in the field of plumbing will be required.

If you are confident in your abilities, then you can take care of connecting the dishwasher. This instruction will help you do this correctly and quickly.

Step 1 – Prepare tools and materials

Before installing the device, you need to prepare all the necessary things. The tools will be screwdrivers (straight, curved) and pliers. Consumable raw materials are cotton insulating tape and vinyl.

Insulating tape will need to be wrapped around the metal parts in the future. Here is a list of all items that can be used for installation work:

  • tee with thread diameter ¾ inches, material: brass, bronze;
  • siphon with a fitting, if you plan to purchase a washing machine, you can buy a siphon with 2 fittings; if you have one installed, one will be enough or you can close it with a second bushing;
  • bronze shut-off ball valve with a diameter of ¾ inches;
  • long tube;
  • filter for deep cleaning (extends the service life, the same one is located in front of the water meter);
  • fluoroplastic sealing tape;
  • Euro socket (socket with grounding);
  • wire with the required cross-section and length;
  • electric drill;
  • adjustable wrenches (2 pieces);
  • scissors suitable for metal-plastic pipes;
  • sharp knife;

You have collected the entire set of tools and prepared consumables. The next step is to choose a suitable location for the dishwasher.

Step 2 – Choose a suitable location

Usually people figure out where new rubbish equipment will be located. If you haven't already, here are some recommendations on where the best place to place your dishwasher is:

  • The built-in type (stationary) requires a place where it will not interfere and where it is convenient to operate. If you are just setting up a kitchen and have not yet purchased furniture, it is better to give preference to a design that involves placing a dishwasher - under the countertop or in the cabinet body. The main thing is that the device does not interfere and does not attract attention.
  • The distance from the dishwasher to the sewer cannot exceed one and a half meters. Otherwise, the pump of the device may fail in a short time. Sometimes difficulties arise when installing a dishwasher cannot be implemented in the kitchen. For example, if it is far from the sink or the sewer does not go into the kitchen. In such cases, a reasonable solution would be to place the device in the bathroom.
  • It is advisable to choose a place closer to the outlet. This will help in the future to immediately connect to the power grid without installing a new outlet.
  • There are models that are installed on the countertop. You don’t have to think too much about how to connect a dishwasher of this type with your own hands. Everything is quite simple here. Simply throw the hose into the sink. This type does not require thinking through the drainage system. Suitable for old houses and small spaces.

After choosing a location, a person must know how to connect the dishwasher to the water supply, sewerage and network.

Step 3 – Connect the water

The first step is to install a tee between the water pipe and the tap. During this manipulation, a branch is formed, to which our unit will join. If the device does not have a water connection function, you need to install a special valve. A filter for water purification is also installed here. Procedure:

  1. Disconnect the flexible mixer hose from the metal-plastic pipe.
  2. Now you need to connect the tee, first wrapping fluoroplastic sealing tape around the thread.
  3. We screw the mixing hose onto the tee from above.
  4. A filter for cleaning is installed on the outlet, then a shut-off valve (here it is also necessary to wind FUM tape).
  5. We take the hose from the equipment and connect it to the tap.

Step 4 – Drain

Here the eyeliner diagram is simpler than in the previous paragraph. It is necessary to install a siphon under the sink, this prevents the spread of unpleasant odors from the sewer throughout the apartment.

The drain circuit is connected to the siphon. The hose should be angled so that the water drains effectively on its own and the hose does not need to be adjusted by hand. I would like to focus attention on an important aspect - at the junction of the siphon and the drain, a V-shaped bend is needed, which will prevent water from pouring from the sink into the drain.

The final stage of connecting to the drainpipe is checking the length of the hose, depending on the pump load.

Step 5 – Supplying electricity

As mentioned above, the outlet should be located directly next to the dishwasher. In addition, it can withstand a current of 16A and is grounded.

The power of the unit is high, so the conductive system must withstand the incoming load. Selecting the correct cross-section of electrical conductors will help with this. Their diameter is from 2 mm.

The distribution of electricity must come from the panel or junction box. It is recommended to protect the transmission line with a 16A circuit breaker. It is necessary to use only Euro sockets with grounding. This requirement is dictated by safety regulations. You should not connect a washing machine or anything else to an outlet with a connected dishwasher! This may cause current overload.

Step 6 – Finishing Work

Align the device parallel to the floor; any movement will disrupt operation.

After connecting all systems, do not rush to close the boxes and grooves. First, test your dishwasher. This is done without dishes, but with the addition of detergent. We thoroughly check the functionality of the entire system: water filling speed, heating, draining, drying mode. Inspect all places to ensure that the pipes are not leaking anywhere and that the connections are securely fastened. After you are convinced that the machine is working properly, you can clean everything up and enjoy your new assistant in the kitchen.

  • Look for the video on YouTube. If you are planning to connect the dishwasher yourself, the video will help you understand the sequence of actions.
  • Do not connect the grounding terminal to gas or water pipes. It needs to be connected to a grounding bus.
  • The distance from the walls to the car is at least 5 cm.
  • Use caution when installing the drain pipe into the sink. Waste water can overflow from the pipe, which threatens to flood your neighbors. The process is not safe, although it makes joining easier.
  • Before you buy, study the models of the most popular brands, read reviews about them, choose the appropriate options at a price that suits you. The best manufacturers of dishwashers are considered to be Bosch, Electrolux, and Siemens; their production equipment is in great demand in Moscow.
  • Do not use power extension cords. They are often the cause of accidents.
  • Every major appliance should have its own line from the junction box. The dishwasher is no exception.

Now you know how to connect a dishwasher. Its use helps housewives relieve some of their household responsibilities, gain more free time and save water consumption.
